This study aimed to mix and test mortar incorporating activated Hwangtoh to improve the Hwangtoh brick bond strength of brick structures. To do this, the bond strength correlation of mortar was analyzed by means of materials and experiment factors and levels, and the optimum conditions were suggested after analyzing the physical properties of brick and the mix ratio of mortar and additive. Furthermore, the compressive strength and bond strength were found to be in inverse proportion, and in terms of the materials and mixing level, W/C ratio, substitution ratio of activated Hwangtoh, and fine aggregate grading were shown to have a considerable influence on the strength. In conclusion, the optimum mixing conditions to improve the bond strength are found to set W/C ratio at 65% and replacmenet ratio of activated Hwangtoh at 10%.
We can consider that the study on early evaluation of strength of concrete is useful to raise safety of building and utility of quality control of concrete is useful to raise safety of building and utility of quality control of concrete. In this paper, was proposed to method early to predict strength of concrete with key parameters, such as Water/Cement(W/C) ratio and Sand / Aggregate(S/A) ratio. Through a series of experiment, the obtained results are summarized as follow. $\circled1$ The ratio of resistance was decteased as the increase of W/C ratio. $\circled2$ The maximum value for the ratio of resistance and compressive strength was presented in the case of 40% S/A ratio. $\circled3$ The relationship. of the ratio of resistance and compressive strength on 28days according to the change of W/C and S/A ratio is to be: $F_{28}=-0.00104R^2 + 2.263R - 935.5$ (W/C Ratio) $F_{28} = 0.007R^2 - 10.693R - 4269.1$ (S/A Ratio)
The usage of nondestructive testing on early-aged concrete leads to enhacned safty and allows effective scheduling of construction, thus making it possible to maximize the time and cost efficiencies. In this study, a reliable nondestructive strength evaluation method for early-aged concrete using the longitudinal wave velocity is proposed. Compression tests were performed to examine factors influencing the velocity-strength relationship of concrete, such as water-cement (w/c) ratio, fine aggregate ratio, curing temperature, and curing condition. The test results show that a change in the w/c ratio and curing temperature has minor effect on the velocity-strength relationship/ However, curing condition significantly influences the velocity-strength relationship of early-aged concrete. Moreover, the longitudinal wave velocity increases with decreasing fine aggregate ratio. It is concluded from this study that the strength evaluation of early-age concrete can be achieved by a nonlinear equation which considers the effects of curing condition and fine aggregate ratio.
The purpose of this study is to identify basic property of porous concrete using cooper slag as fine aggregate. The specimens were made with cooper slag with various mixing ratio(10, 20, 30, 50%), porous concrete and porous concrete containing river fine aggregate and crushed fine aggregate, which W/B ratio fixed 0.25. Compressive strength, Flexural strength, coefficient of permeability. From the test results, various fine aggregate mixing ratio improves compressive strength and flexural strength, but cooper slag fine aggregate mixing ratio over 20%, concrete indicates trend to decrease performance of permeability. Concrete containing fine aggregate is improved the performance of permeability and strength compared to other specimen, when age 28days, and cooper slag mixing ratio less than 20% concrete indicates better performance than cooper slag mixing ratio 20% over.
Cemented soils or concrete are usually cured under moisture conditions and their strength increases with curing time. An insufficient supply of water to cemented soils can contribute to hydration process during curing, which results in the variation of bonding strength of cemented soils. In this study, by the consideration of in situ water supply conditions, cemented sand with cement ratio less than 20% was prepared by air dry, wrapped, and underwater conditions. A series of unconfined compression tests were carried out to evaluate the effect of curing conditions on the strength of cemented soils. The strength of air dry curing specimen was higher than those of wrapped cured specimen when cement ratio was less than 10%, whereas it was lower when cement ratio was greater than 10%. Regardless of cement ratio, air dry cured specimens were stronger than underwater cured specimens. A strength increase ratio with cement ratio was calculated based on the strength of 4% cemented specimen. The strength increase ratio of air dry cured specimen was lowest and that of wrapped and underwater cured ones increased by square. Strength of air dry cured specimen dropped to maximum 30% after wetting when cement ratio was low. However, regardless of cement ratio, strength of wrapped specimens dropped to an average 10% after wetting.
This study has been carried out to examine the properties of concrete according to replacement ratio and curing method of fly ash, in order to increase utilization of it. As the result of experiments, the 7 days of early age strength presented around 20MPa, up to 20% of replacement ratio, which is almost the same strength as non-replacement. However, when the replacement ratio was 30%, the strength was decreased to 16MPa, as 20% reduction compared to the non-replacement condition. In 365 days of long term aging, the strength was 5% higher, up to 20% of the replacement ratio, due to the pozzolanic reaction of fly ash. When the replacement ratio was 30%, it presented similar strength development as the non-replacement condition. Steam curing and autoclave curing increased the short age strength, regardless of the replacement ratio of fly ash; however, they don't have an effect on increasing the 365 days of long term strength. Water curing showed high strength development after 28 days, 51.81MPa, which is around 30% higher than air curing, 38.9MPa, steam curing, 38.6MPa, and autoclave curing, 39MPa. Therefore, water curing was examined as one of the very effective curing methods for developing long term strength of concrete.
The use of high-strength grout applied for facility foundations and bridges has recently been expanding in offshore wind farm. Wind farm in offshore require bearing capacity for horizontal loads such as wind, waves, and earthquakes. In order to improve the bearing force of the base part, sufficient fluidity and a certain strength should be ensured so that the high-strength grout is densely charged in the narrow space of the connection part. Therefore, in this study, changes in fluidity and strength according to the ratio of PC-based superplasticizer mixed in high-strength grout were measured. As a result, as the ratio of the superplasticizer increased, fluidity increased and strength decreased. However, the strength did not decrease when the ratio of superplasticizer was above a 0.005. Therefore, it was confirmed that the fluidity change was remarkable when a 0.005 ratio of PC-based superplasticizer were added.
This paper predicts the cementing efficiency of fly-ash(FA) based on mortar test considering binder-water ratio and FA replacement ratio as experimental variables. The cementing efficiency prediction model proposed by statistical analysis enables us to estimate the value according to the binder-water ratio and FA replacement ratio of matrix. When FA replacement ratio is the same, the lower the binder-water ratio, the higher the estimated cementing efficiency. There are significant differences in the values according to binder-water ratio at FA replacement ratios of 15% or less, but there are almost no differences when FA replacement ratio is more than 15%. As the binder-water ratio increases, the variations in the values according to FA replacement ratio are great at FA replacement ratios of 15% or less. As the FA replacement ratios increase, the values increase for FA replacement ratios of 15% or less, but decrease for more than 15%. The values range from -0.71 to 1.24 at binder-water ratio of 1.67-2.86 and FA replacement ratio of 0-70%. The RMSE of the 28-day compressive strength predicted by modified water-cement ratio is 2.2 MPa. The values can be trusted, as there is good agreement between predicted strength and experimental strength.
In this paper, an Adaptive nerou-based inference system (ANFIS) is being used for the prediction of shear strength of high strength concrete (HSC) beams without stirrups. The input parameters comprise of tensile reinforcement ratio, concrete compressive strength and shear span to depth ratio. Additionally, 122 experimental datasets were extracted from the literature review on the HSC beams with some comparable cross sectional dimensions and loading conditions. A comparative analysis has been carried out on the predicted shear strength of HSC beams without stirrups via the ANFIS method with those from the CEB-FIP Model Code (1990), AASHTO LRFD 1994 and CSA A23.3 - 94 codes of design. The shear strength prediction with ANFIS is discovered to be superior to CEB-FIP Model Code (1990), AASHTO LRFD 1994 and CSA A23.3 - 94. The predictions obtained from the ANFIS are harmonious with the test results not accounting for the shear span to depth ratio, tensile reinforcement ratio and concrete compressive strength; the data of the average, variance, correlation coefficient and coefficient of variation (CV) of the ratio between the shear strength predicted using the ANFIS method and the real shear strength are 0.995, 0.014, 0.969 and 11.97%, respectively. Taking a look at the CV index, the shear strength prediction shows better in nonlinear iterations such as the ANFIS for shear strength prediction of HSC beams without stirrups.
With the recent development in construction industry, industrial by-products fly ash(FA) and blast furnace slag(BS) have been used in large quantities as an alternative to cement, as a solution for environmental problems and resource exhaustion. This study analyzed the basic characteristics according to the changes in replacement ratio and mixing ratio of FA and BS in high strength SCMs concrete, from which in turn it sought to find the optimal mixing ratio for high strength concrete The results showed that in unhardened concrete the more the replacement ratio and FA mixing ratio increases the slump flow will increase while amount of air decreases, and setting time is delayed. In hardened concrete the more the replacement ratio and FA mixing ratio increases the more the overall compression strength decreases, but until 28 days of material age the larger of the BS ratio displayed the best compression strength.
