This study was conducted to find characteristics of photosynthesis for dwarf and street tree cultivars of Hibiscus syriacus L. Characteristics of growth and flowering on some cultivars were investigated. The photosynthetic capacity for the cultivars was also measured. Bulsae showed the best height increase; Soyang represented the lowest growth. Baektanshim ${\times}$ Kyungbuk1 had the largest number of branches and leaves. Sundeok and Bulsae were the best in terms of height and width of flower, Soyang showed the smallest flowers. According to the analysis of chlorophyll content (chlorophyll a, b, total) for the cultivars, there was little difference between Sundeok and Bulsae. Based on light response curves for cultivars, it was found that Baektanshim ${\times}$ Kyungbuk1 and Soyang had lower light compensation and light saturation points than Bulsae and Sundeok. Cultivars Baektanshim ${\times}$ Kyungbuk1 and Soyang were also low in dark respiration, photosynthetic capacity, and net apparent quantum yield. In conclusion, it is recommended that cultivars Baektanshim ${\times}$ Kyungbuk1 and Soyang might be used as a dwarf type due to photosynthetic capacity.

Ozone concentration in Tokyo Metropolitan area is one of the most serious issues of the local air quality. Tropospheric ozone is formed by radical reaction including volatile organic compound (VOC) and nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$). Reduction of the emission of reactive VOC is a key to reducing ozone concentrations. VOC is emitted from anthropogenic sources and also from vegetation (biogenic VOC or BVOC). BVOC also forms ozone through $NO_x$ and radical reactions. Especially, in urban area, the BVOC is emitted into the atmosphere with high $NO_x$ concentration. Therefore, trees bordering streets and green spaces in urban area may contribute to tropospheric ozone. On the other hand, not all trees emit BVOC which will produce ozone locally. In this study, BVOC emissions have been investigated (terpenoids: isoprene, monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes) for 29 tree species. Eleven in the 29 species were tree species that did not emit BVOCs. Three in 12 cultivars for future planting (25 %) were found to emit no terpenoid BVOCs. Eight in 17 commonly planted trees (47%) were found to emit no terpenoid BVOC. Lower-emitting species have many advantages for urban planting. Therefore, further investigation is required to find the species which do not emit terpenoid BVOC. Emission of reactive BVOC should be added into guideline for the urban planting to prevent the creation of sources of ozone. It is desirable that species with no reactive BVOC emission are planted along urban streets and green areas in urban areas, such as Tokyo.
Pesticides are widely sprayed by the growers in street trees and planting areas which include urban forests, community forests and city parks to control pests. Spraying pesticides not only affect the people who sprayed but also affect the unspecified citizens who's are exposed to pesticides sprayed trees by contact or inhalation. A few studies have been conducted to measure the amount of pesticides in forest area but no studies have been conducted to measure the pesticide amount in tree in public living space. So, in our study, we investigated the amount of pesticides in cotton gloves, in leaf residue, and respiratory exposure for a certain period of time after applying Fenitrothion EC to Korean boxweed tree (Buxus Koreana) to know the safety time of pesticides after spraying. We found that, up to 4d, there was no significant difference of the amount of Fenitrothion on leaves. But the amount of pesticides on gloves was significantly higher on 1h ($510.1{\mu}g$) and 24h ($405.4{\mu}g$) than 48h ($45.0{\mu}g$) after spraying. The amount of pesticides on inhalation was also significantly higher in 1 h ($0.2{\mu}g$) and 24 h ($0.1{\mu}g$) than 48 h after spraying. After 48h, we did not find pesticides amount in inhalation. Thus, we was considered necessary to pay attention to 48h after spraying of pesticide Fenitrothion.

The aim of the present study was to compare the cold tolerance of seven different types of trees growing in southern Korea to select evergreen broad-leaved trees that can be used as street trees in large land areas experiencing climate change. The trees compared were the thorn tree, Cinnamomum camphora, Camellia japonica, Machilus thunbergii, Dendropanax morbifera, Daphniphyllum macropodum Miq., Quercus glauca Thunb., and Raphiolepis indica. When the trees were subjected to low temperature treatment, their electrolyte elution volume values appeared to increase with the decreases in the treatment temperature. The analysis of the cold tolerance of each type of tree was based on the estimated temperatures in the following order: C. japonica (-11.586℃) > R. indica (-9.348℃) > Q. glauca (-8.719℃) > M. thunbergii (-8.090℃) > D. macropodum (-7.409℃) > D. morbifera (-7.085℃) > C. camphora (-6.995℃). The relative cold tolerance difference found in the seven tree species was more than 5℃, as evaluated previously. In the Lauraceae family, the difference in cold tolerance was more than 2℃, even in the same species. The analysis showed that trees with excellent cold tolerance included Q. glauca Thunb., C. japonica, R. indica, and the thorn tree. This knowledge is required for the evaluation of the possibility of the survival of trees under cold temperature conditions in cities.

This study developed a new methodology to evaluate the carbon storage using a Mobile Mapping System according to the life cycle of street trees. The system for calculating the carbon storage of a roadside tree using the MMS developed in this study consisted of a database, memory, processor, user interface, and communication module. The carbon storage was calculated for 261 trees in the Cheonan-Asan New Town (distance: 2.1 km, area: $283,698m^2$). The average biomass and carbon storage of Metasequoia glyptostroboides were highest at 34.5 kg and 17.3 kg C and Chionanthus retusa were lowest at 19.5 kg and 9.8 kg C, respectively. The total biomass and total carbon storage of Ginkgo biloba were highest at 5028.8 kg and 17.3 kg C and Chionanthus retusa were lowest at 780.7 kg and 390.3 kg C, respectively. Based on the roadside tree database, the amount of carbon storage in a given area was converted to Google format and visualized in 3D by GIS analysis.

This study aims to establish a scenario based on the spacing and arrangement of the roadside trees to reduce heat waves and fine dust in cities that occurred during the urbanization process and to quantitatively analyze the degree of reduction. The ENVI-met 5.0.2v model, a micro-climate simulation program, was used to analyze the degree of improvement in the thermal environment and fine dust according to the roadside tree scenario. As a result of temperature analysis according to street tree spacing, the narrower the distance between roadside trees, the lower the temperature during the day as the number of planted trees increased, and a similar pattern was shown regardless of the distance between roadside trees in the morning and evening. In the case of fine dust emitted from the road, the concentration of fine dust increased slightly due to the increase in roadside trees, but the concentration of sidewalks where people walk increased slightly or there was no difference because of blocking fine dust on trees. The temperature according to the arrangement of street trees tended to decrease as the number of planted trees increased as the arrangement increased. However, not only the amount of trees but also the crown projected area was judged to have a significant impact on the temperature reduction because the temperature reduction was greater in the scenario of planting the same amount of trees and widening the interval of arrangement. In terms of the arrangement, the fine dust concentration showed a difference from the results according to the interval, suggesting that the fine dust concentration may change depending on the relationship between the main wind direction and the tree planting direction. By quantitatively analyzing the degree of thermal environment and fine dust improvement caused by roadside trees, this study is expected to promote policies and projects to improve the roadside environment efficiently, such as a basic plan for roadside trees and a project for wind corridor forests.
In this study, to targeting Songpa of Seoul, were analyzed the effect on the noise mitigation in roadside buffer green spaces. Noise of Songpa Street buffer green space was determined to be higher during the day than at night. In addition, it was most of 60 db or more. However, the noise reduction function of the buffer green was not greatly affected by time. In the case of noise reduction rate, during the day time it was the order of the mounding type (18.14%)> plain type (5.73%)> slope type (4.08%), And, in the case of night time, it was the order of the mounding type (11.29%)> slope type (10.22%)> plain type (4.42%). Noise reduction rate, all of the daytime, was the highest in the mounding type. As a result of the factors on the amount of reduction of noise, More physical structure is mounding type, green structure is the stratification of green space, and the number of individuals is large, the higher the tree planting density, it is determined that the noise reduction effect is high. Also, factors affecting the noise reduction effect of the day and night were different.
