  • The software streaming technology enables telematics software to be automatically updated through a wireless network. When the software starts running, software streaming system inspects its version and then, automatically download latest one. The software streaming system breaks the software into several pieces that are streamed to the user as needed. In this way, software streaming system can improves the telematics application load time while updating the software through wireless network. In our experiments, the application load time was reduced about 7 times compared to downloading whole software at best case.

  • Linux cluster Server makes a high performance PC cluster system, and provides scalablity and availability as compared with an expensive single server. In this paper, we design and implement a VOD streaming service system to serve video and audio streaming services on the Linux cluster server. Our Streaming server supports the MS Window Media Format based on the RTSP streaming protocol.

  • Streaming Technology can support the real-time playback without downloading and storing multimedia data in local HDD. So, client browser or plug-in can represent multimedia data before the end of file transmission using streaming technology. Recently, the demand for efficient real-time playback and transmission of large amounts of multimedia data is growing rapidly. But most users' connections over network are not fast and stable enough to download large chunks of multimedia data. In this paper, we propose an intelligent IP streaming system based on personalized media service. The proposed IP streaming system enables users to get an intelligent recommendation of multimedia contents based on the user preference information stored on the streaming server or the home media server. The supposed intelligent IP streaming system consists of Server Metadata Agent, Pumping Server, Contents Storage Server, Client Metadata Agent and Streaming Player. And in order to implement the personalized media service, the user information, user preference information and client device information are managed under database concept. Moreover, users are assured of seamless access of streamed content event if they switch to another client device by implementing streaming system based on user identification and device information. We evaluate our approach with manufacturing home server system and simulation results.

  • Recently, there is a rapidly growing demand for efficient real-tine playback and transmission of large amounts of multimedia data. But most users' connections are not fast enough to download large chunks of multimedia data. Therefore a streaming technology is needed in which users enable the real-time playback of multimedia date without having to download the whole of the multimedia date. In this paper, we propose a personalized IP streaming system.   • We report electrokinetic streaming potential detection in a microchannel. Streaming potential, one of the representative electrokinetic phenomena, becomes noticeable either when the channel size reduces or when the concentration of electrolyte reduces. We suggest a triangular-shaped microchannel to enhance streaming potential. The triangular-shaped microchannel shows better performance than the straight one in terms of streaming potential. Couple of possible methods to enhance streaming potential is also discussed. Moreover, this type of channel and phenomenon can be applied to biological sensor application and energy transduction.

Capacity aware Scalable Video Coding in P2P on Demand Streaming Systems

  • Scalable video coding can handle peer heterogeneity of P2P streaming applications, but there is still a lack of comprehensive studies on how to use it to improve video playback quality. In this paper we propose a capacity aware scalable video coding mechanism for P2P on demand streaming system. The proposed mechanism includes capacity based neighbor selection, adaptive data scheduling and streaming layer adjustment, and can enable each peer to select appropriate streaming layers and acquire streaming chunks with proper sequence, along with choosing specific peers to provide them. Simulation results show that the presented mechanism can decrease the system's startup and playback delay, and increase the video playback quality as well as playback continuity, and thus it provides a better quality of experience for users.

  • 네트워크 스트리밍 기술은 네트워크에서 스트리밍을 통하여 여러 가지의 애플리케이션 소프트웨어를 지원할 수 있는 서비스 방법이다. 멀티미디어 스트리밍 기술이 개발되어 광범위하게 사용되고 있지만, 소프트웨어 스트리밍 기술에 대한 연구는 활발하게 진행되지 않고 있다. 본 논문에서는, 개선된 성능을 가진 자바 언어 기반 소프트웨어 스트리밍 기술을 설계 및 구현하고, 기존 관련 시스템과 비교하고 여러 가지의 특성을 분석하고 성능 평가를 수행한다. 구현된 시스템은 윈도우 체제 이외에 다중 운영체제에서 사용될 플랫폼을 가지고 있다. 또한 클라이언트의 컴퓨터에 소프트웨어를 설치하지 않고 사용할 수 있으며, 사용자의 편리성이 극대화되는 이상적인 특징이 있다.

The Streaming Industry in the U.S.: The Present and Future Prospects

  • In this paper, we aim to examine the recent state of the streaming industry in the U.S., and its future prospects as the most important force shaping the media landscape across the globe. First, we examine the launch of Disney's streaming services in late 2019 that heralded the start of the so-called streaming war to win subscribers and how the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020 helped its rapid growth. Then, we look at the crisis of the streaming industry in 2022, as subscriber growth slowed down for the first time and losses increased, and how this led to the growing emphasis on profitability. We also explore the subsequent attempts by streaming companies to cut costs and create more revenue, with the result that they were retreating from the previous strategy to grow their platforms at all costs. From this, we highlight that, while the future course of the streaming industry is not yet determined, the recent upheavals certainly made it more cost-conscious and conservative and less consumer-friendly.

Optimizing the Joint Source/Network Coding for Video Streaming over Multi-hop Wireless Networks

  • Supporting video streaming over multi-hop wireless networks is particularly challenging due to the time-varying and error-prone characteristics of the wireless channel. In this paper, we propose a joint optimization scheme for video streaming over multi-hop wireless networks. Our coding scheme, called Joint Source/Network Coding (JSNC), combines source coding and network coding to maximize the video quality under the limited wireless resources and coding constraints. JSNC segments the streaming data into generations at the source node and exploits the intra-session coding on both the source and the intermediate nodes. The size of the generation and the level of redundancy influence the streaming performance significantly and need to be determined carefully. We formulate the problem as an optimization problem with the objective of minimizing the end-to-end distortion by jointly considering the generation size and the coding redundancy. The simulation results demonstrate that, with the appropriate generation size and coding redundancy, the JSNC scheme can achieve an optimal performance for video streaming over multi-hop wireless networks.
