Implementation and Performance Evaluation of Platform Independent Performance Enhanced Software Streaming Technology (플랫폼 독립적 성능 개선 소프트웨어 스트리밍 기술 구현 및 성능평가)

  • Software streaming technology is a service method which can support several application software via streaming in networks. In this paper, we propose a platform independent PESS(performance Enhanced Software Streaming) technology. We design and implement the technology based on Java language. The main features in the implemented system are both platforms to be used in multiple operating systems in addition to Windows system and enhanced performance. In the implemented streaming method, application software is placed on the server and only necessary packs are transmitted in an instant. By virtual file system and clients' virtual registry, if necessary, the users' request is processed by transmitting a very small pack unit. Therefore, server load can be reduced and the streaming speed can also be improved. We present the implementation results and evaluate several performance characteristics of the proposed system.

  • Illegal reproductions and subsequent copyright infringement have curtailed development of digital content industry. Many DRM systems have been developed and utilized for this purpose. However, current DRM system allow only authorized user to access the contents, and as such, redistribution to other user without getting license again entails cumbersome process. Currently, super-distribution system which can be used for redistribution of downloaded contents in more streamlined fashion is being widely conducted. But for streaming type content, it is still very difficult to redistribute with super-distribution system because the client must directly connect to streaming server to access the content. Accordingly, a new DRM streaming service structure is required to allow streamed contents to be redistributed as easily as the downloaded contents. In this paper, we proposed the relay file structure that can connect the streaming server and the user for super-distribution of the streaming contents.

  • The multi-channel video streaming system is an essential device for future ground combat vehicles. For the system, the application of digital interfaces is required instead of the direct analog method to support selectable multiple channels. However, due to the characteristics of the digital interfaces that require en/decoding and signal conversion, the system should support the ability to adapt to quality and delay requirements depending on how video data is utilized. To support addressed issue, this study designs and emulates the multi-channel compressed-video streaming system of ground combat vehicle's fire control system based on commercial standards. Using the system, this study analyzes the quality of video according to the rotational speed of the acquisition device and Glass-to-Glass (G2G) delay between video acquisition and display devices according to video compression rates. Through these experiments and analysis, this paper presents the design direction of the system having scalability on the latest technology while providing high-quality video data streaming flexibly.

  • In ubiquitous computing environment, people expect services to change actively in response to the change of themselves and surrounding environment. In order to meet such expectations, the streaming service needs technologies for migrating through various devices, following the user's movement, and the technology of individualized streaming push service. In this paper, we designed and implemented U-Stream, a ubiquitous streaming service system, based on user-defined context and stream view. The system classifies contexts according to streaming service migration and allows users to define some contexts and, by doing so, provides user-oriented individualized services rather than uniform services based solely on the developers' anticipations.

  • In this paper, we proposed cross-layered approach of video codec and communication system for the efficient video streaming service. Conventional video streaming is served by divided system which consist of video codec layer and communication layer. Its disintegration causes the limitation of the performance of video streaming service. With the cross-layered design, each layer could share the information and the service is able to enhance the performance. And we proposed the selective retransmission method in communication system based on the cross-layered system that reflect the information of encoded video data. Selective retransmission method which consider the characteristics of video data improves the performance of video streaming services. We verified the proposed method with raw format full HD test sequence with H.264/AVC codec and MATLAB simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed method improves about 10% PSNR performance.

A Study on Enhancement of Thermoelectric Cooling System Performance by Piezoelectric Actuator (압전 액츄에이터를 이용한 열전냉각 시스템 성능 향상에 관한 연구)

  • The thermoelectric cooling system consisted of the thermoelectric module, a heat sink and a cooling fan, respectively. Also, the piezoelectric actuator was applied to improve the performance of thermoelectric cooling system and investigate the heat transfer phenomenon. The temperature distribution of test section was measured to investigate cooling characteristics of thermoelectric cooling system. The flow phenomenon of test section was visualized using visualization device. When the piezoelectric actuator was applied to the heat transfer process of thermoelectric cooling system, acoustic streaming was occurred in test section. The acoustic streaming was occurred forced convection flow, and was regularly formed the temperature distribution in test section. The results clearly show that the acoustic streaming is one of the prime effects to enhance the convection heat transfer and can enhance the performance of thermoelectric cooling system.

  • Network streaming technology is a service method which can support several application software via streaming in networks. Although multimedia streaming technology has been developed and widely used, research on the software streaming technology is not yet being progressed actively. In this paper, we design and implement a software streaming technology based on Java language with enhanced performance, compare the existing related systems with it and analyze several characteristics, and perform the performance evaluation. The implemented system has a platform to be used in multiple operating systems in addition to Windows system. It can also be used without installing a software at the client's computer, and has a novel feature that the user's convenience is maximized.

  • This paper presents an implementation of a streaming system which can forward live video stream to multiple users from a Phantom4, which is a drone made by DJI. We constructed the streaming server on Raspberry Pi 3 board for high mobility. Also We implemented the system so that the video stream can be played on any devices if the HTML5 standard web browser is utilized. We compiled C codes of FFmpeg open sources and installed in the Raspberry Pi3 as the streaming server and developed a Java application to execute as the integrated server that controls the other softwares on the streaming server. Also we developed an Android application which receives the live video stream from the drone and sends the streaming server continuously. The implemented system in this paper can successfully stream the live video on 24 frames per second at the resolution of 148x112 in considering the low hardware throughput of the streaming server.

Optimizing Caching in a Patch Streaming Multimedia-on-Demand System

  • In on-demand multimedia streaming systems, streaming techniques are usually combined with proxy caching to obtain better performance. The patch streaming technique has no start-up latency inherent to it, but requires extra bandwidth to deliver the media data in patch streams. This paper proposes a proxy caching technique which aims at reducing the bandwidth cost of the patch streaming technique. The proposed approach determines media prefixes with high patching cost and caches the appropriate media prefix at the proxy/local server. Herein the scheme is evaluated using a synthetically generated media access workload and its performance is compared with that of the popularity and prefix-aware interval caching scheme (the prefix part) and with that of patch streaming with no caching. The bandwidth saving, hit ratio and concurrent number of clients are used to compare the performance, and the proposed scheme is found to perform better for different caching capacities of the proxy server.

Characteristics of Static Electrification on Insulation Oil Aging (변압기 절연유의 열화에 따른 대전특성)

  • This paper studied the streaming electrification of the U.H.V. transformer with the spinning cylinder system, and compared and analyzed it with the conventional forced flowing system which uses a pump or gas for oil flowing. Also, accumulated surface voltage in its electrified material was measured with the electrostatic voltmeter, and the effect of insulation oil aging was measured. As results, in spinning cylinder system, characteristics of the streaming electrification to its rotational speed and oil temperature are same tendency as those of tile forced flowing system and it showed the spinning cylinder system is useful to study the streaming electrification. And, aging of insulation oil increases the electricity of streaming electrification at initial stage of aging.
