  • Tidal power can use conventional technology to extract energy from the tides. It is usually best deployed in areas where there i s a high tical range which includes Western and Southern coastal areas in Korea. However, to extract tical energy, a barrage across an estuary or a bay is to be constructed that is now very hard due to severe environmental impact on local estuary. The recent technology of application of tidal stream provides a new window to extract power minimizing the adverse environmental impact Tidal stream technology which directly exploits these currents is relatively new but is presently generating considerable interest Turbine rotors can be used to extract energy from the flows. Prototype devices currently on test in the UK include the 300kW SeaFlow turbine. In this paper, the recent technology and research on ocean tical stream power are addressed

  • Design of Sensor nodes in Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) should be considered some properties as electricity consumption, transmission speed, range, etc., and also be needed the protection against various attacks (e.g., eavesdropping, hacking, leakage of customer's secret data, and denial of services). The stream cipher Rabbit, selected for the final eSTREAM portfolio organized by EU ECRYPT and selected as algorithm in part of ISO/IEC 18033-4 Stream Ciphers on ISO Security Standardization recently, is a high speed stream cipher suitable for WSN. Since the stream cipher Rabbit was evaluated the complexity of side-channel analysis attack as 'Medium' in a theoretical approach, thus the method of power analysis attack to the stream cipher Rabbit and the verification of our method by practical experiments were described in this paper. We implemented the stream cipher Rabbit without countermeasures of power analysis attack on IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee board with 8-bit RISC AVR microprocessor ATmega128L chip, and performed the experiments of power analysis based on difference of means and template using a Hamming weight model.

  • The distribution of gravel-bed materials in mountainous river is formed by the process of deposition and transportation of sediment responding to stream power of the latest flood that is over the certain scale. The particle size of bed material was surveyed in the longitudinal points of river and detail points of a specific meandering section and used to estimate the critical velocity and stream power. Yang's critical unit stream power and Bagnold's critical stream power for gravel-bed materials increased with the distance from downstream to upstream. Dimensionless shear stress based on the designed flood discharge in Shields diagram was evaluated that the gravel-bed materials in most survey points may be transported as form of bedload. The mean diameter in the meandering section was the biggest size in first water impingement point of inflow water from upstream and the second big size in second water impingement point by reflection flow. The mean diameters were relatively the small sizes in points right after water impingement. The range of mean critical velocity was 0.77~2.60 m/s and critical unit stream power was big greatly in first water impingement point. The distribution of critical stream power, range of 7~171 $W/m^2$, was shown that variation in longitudinal section was more obvious than that of cross section and estimated that critical stream power may be affected greatly in first and second water impingement point.

  • The roughness coefficients were estimated by the Manning's equation for the measured stage and flow velocity of Bocheong stream basin in Kum river. The relationships between the estimated roughness coefficients and the geomorphologic factors were formulated by the linear, logarithmic, exponential and power type function, thereafter correlation equations were presented. The correlation analysis was performed between the measured stream length and the basin area of Bocheong stream basin by the linear, logarithmic, exponential and power type function, and correlation equation for the stream length was given. The roughness coefficient has strong correlationship with stream slope, but low correlation coefficients with stream length and basin area. For the correlationship with the roughness coefficients and the stream slope, the logarithmic type function has the smallest correlation coefficient, on the other hand, the exponential type function has the largest correlation coefficient. For the relationship between the stream length and the basin area, the correlation coefficient of the logarithmic type function shows the smallest value, linear type function shows the largest value.

  • Understanding of the hydraulics of flow is very important to support the management of river. The cross-sectional area, average velocity, flow depth and discharge can be regarded as a power function each other. In this paper the flow of Bocheong stream basin is experimentally studied. The correlation analysis was performed between observed hydraulic factors by the power type function. The constants resulted from the correlation analysis were calculated by the geomorphologic characteristics of the watershed using the power type function. The correlation coefficients between the hydraulic factors were appeared close to unit having strong correlationship. The two conditions of equality of the continuity equation were analysed, and the conditions were found to be good results. From these results the observed hydraulic data of Bocheong stream basin can be concluded as a reliable data. The correlation coefficients between the parameters of the hydraulic characteristics and geomorphologic factors were found to be close to unit.

  • Recently, stream cipher Rabbit was selected for the final eSTREAM portfolio organized by EU ECRYPT and as one of algorithm in part of ISO/IEC 18033-4 Stream Ciphers on ISO Security Standardization. However, a feasibility of practical power analysis attack to algorithm in experiment was introduced. Therefore, we propose appropriate methods such as random masking and hiding schemes to secure against power analysis attack on stream cipher Rabbit. We implement the proposed method with increment of 24% operating time and 12.3% memory requirements due to maintaining a high-speed performance. We use a 8-bit RISC AVR microprocessor (ATmegal128L chip) to implement our method for practical experiments, and verify that stream cipher Rabbit with our method is secure against power analysis attack.

  • The Salsa20/12 stream cipher selected for the final eSTREAM portfolio has a better performance than software implementation of AES using an 8-bit microprocessor with restricted memory space, In the theoretical approach, the evaluation of exploitable timing vulnerability was 'none' and the complexity of side-channel analysis was 'low', but there is no literature of the practical result of power analysis attack. Thus we propose the correlation power analysis attack method and prove the feasibility of our proposed method by practical experiments, We used an 8-bit RISC AVR microprocessor (ATmegal128L chip) to implement Salsa20/12 stream cipher without any countermeasures, and performed the experiments of power analysis based on Hamming weight model.

  • This paper presents the verification and validation (V&V) of the STREAM/RAST-K 2.0 code system for a pressurized water reactor (PWR) analysis. A lattice physics code STREAM and a nodal diffusion code RAST-K 2.0 have been developed by a computational reactor physics and experiment laboratory (CORE) of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) for an accurate two-step PWR analysis. The calculation modules of each code were already verified against various benchmark problems, whereas this paper focuses on the V&V of linked code system. Three PWR type reactor cores, OPR-1000, three-loop Westinghouse reactor core, and APR-1400, are selected as V&V target plants. This code system, for verification, is compared against the conventional code systems used for the calculations in nuclear design reports (NDRs) and validated against measured plant data. Compared parameters are as follows: critical boron concentration (CBC), axial shape index (ASI), assembly-wise power distribution, burnup distribution and peaking factors. STREAM/RAST-K 2.0 shows the RMS error of critical boron concentration within 20 ppm, and the RMS error of assembly power within 1.34% for all the cycles of all reactors.

  • In CDMA-based systems, recently, researches on chip-level equalization have been studied in order to improve receiving performance when supporting high-rate data services. In this paper, we consider a chip-level LMMSE (linear minimum mean-squared error) receiver for D-TxAA (dual stream transmit antenna array) based single stream HSDPA MIMO systems using precoding weights. First, we will derive precoding weights for maximizing the total instantaneous received power. We will also analyze the effects of both transmit delay of precoding weights and mobile velocity on chip-level LMMSE receivers, which is verified through computer simulations in various mobile channel environments.

  • The on-the-fly energy release per fission (OTFK) model is implemented in STREAM to continuously update the Kappa values during the depletion calculation. The explicit neutron and photon energy distribution, which has not been considered in previous STREAM versions, is incorporated into the existing on-the-fly model. The impacts of the modified OTFK model with explicit neutron and photon heating in STREAM on the power distribution, fuel temperature, and other core parameters during depletion with feedback calculations are studied using several problems from the VERA benchmark suit. Overall, the explicit heating calculation provides a better power map for the feedback calculations particularly when strong gamma emitters are present. Generally, the fuel temperature decreases when neutron and photon heating is employed because fission neutrons and gamma rays are transported away from their points of generation. This energy release model in STREAM indicates that gamma energy accounts for approximately 9.5%-10% of the total energy released, and approximately 2.4%-2.6% of the total energy released will be deposited in the coolant for the VERA 5, NuScale, and Yonggwang Unit 3 2D cores.
