  • This paper investigates the determinants of the firm's decision to carry out innovative activities in terms of the resource-based view(RBV) in strategic management. Two types of resources are distinguished: tangible(financial autonomy, firm size, capital intensity) and intangible(human resource, entrepreneurship, and commercial resource). R&D intensity and patent statistics are used as proxies for innovative activity. Specific hypotheses about their effect on the probability of a firm carrying out innovative activities are derived and tested on a sample of 337 listed firms in Korean manufacturing industry for the year 1999, using the logistic regression model. Empirical findings suggest that firm size and human resource are the main determinants of firm's internal innovative activities. The results show that the hypotheses concerning financial autonomy, debt ratio, capital intensity, entrepreneurship, and commercial resource are rejected.

  • Five new species of the genus Hyattella (Dictyoceratida: Spongiidae); Hyattella chaguiensis n. sp., H. munseomensis n. sp., H. sumsangiensis n. sp., H. bakusi n. sp., and H. purpurea n. sp., were collected from Jeju-do, Korea. Hyattella chaguiensis n. sp. is similar to H. mara Sim and Lee, 2014 in shape, but differs in dermal membrane and primary fibres. Hyattella munseomensis n. sp. differs in cored primary fibres, having middle-size sand. Hyattella sumsangiensis n. sp. is characterized by color changes and very soft texture. Hyattella bakusi n. sp. and H. purpurea n. sp. are similar in shape, having tube-like elevated holes, but differ in skeletal structures.

  • As one of a new generation of industries, biotechnology is currently spotlighted, and is creating new research and industrial areas that can be readily combined with information technology. Among them, virtual screening is a method for new drug design which uses computer simulation to virtually design active drug candidates for special disease. In this paper, we present a distributed system for virtual screening, called DVSF(Distributed Virtual Screening Facilities). DVSF is designed and developed to perform virtual screening efficiently on logically distributed idle or strategic resources in a small or medium scale laboratory.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the alliance success factors (ASF) and the business environments (BE) from the textile companies' viewpoint, to examine the differences in ASF and BE by firm characteristics, and to examine the relationships between BE and ASF. BE included the degree of market competition and the firm's competitive advantage, and firm characteristics included type of business, the number of employees, and length of business operation. Data were obtained from 155 textile companies in Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions in Korea via a questionnaire survey. Four factors including relationship capital, organizational support, alliance management, and alliance performance were extracted from ASF, and resources, product development, and marketing were extracted from the firm's competitive advantage. There were differences in product development by the number of employees and in the degree of market competition by type of business. The degree of market competition had significant relationships with all of ASF while the firm's competitive advantage differed in the relationships.

  • We, in this paper, suggest the Yeosu internationalization strategy for holding the 2012 World EXPO in Yeosu successfully, First of all, we analyze some problems that hinder the internationalization of Yeosu. Our analysis, also, provides several strategic solutions to those problems by foreign direct investment, international trade, hub port development, and international tourism. first strategy is to create a more favorable business environment for foreign investors. Foreign direct investment is the most effective way to internationalize the specific district. Second strategy is to expand the export of small and medium-sized firms in Yeosu. Especially, local firms with agricultural/fishery products have to develop various new products and introduce the effective international marketing strategy. Final strategy is to develop the hub port in Yeosu and the new tourist resources to attract foreign tourists.

  • CIS nations are recognized as an emerging market recently because there are abundant natural resources and a lot of investment demand. Furthermore, they are located in the middle of Europe and Asia and that make them have more strategic importance as a logistics hub. So many global companies including domestic ones began to advance into the on-site. and this tendency will be strong. On the contrary, a research in logistics environment of CIS has rarely been done. This paper provides a way of systematic approach to design logistics network in CIS with real business case and shows the analyzed result of optimization simulation that includes factors having a huge influence on the overall logistics cost.

The contents of study included impression, characteristics, specialized resources, development direction, intention of visit and its form, destination prior and post visit, travelling expenses, and development form of tourism. The results were as following. Impression and characteristics showed that gochujang and fermentation industry established a strategic ground of local development. Intention of revisit of tourists was relatively high by 97.1%. Furthermore, tourists were mainly family units and they preferred family-based recreational type for the future local tourism development form. Therefore, a development strategy will be required that involves inexpensive accommodation, unique local food items, agricultural-specialty products and local tour packages. For invigoration of local tourism, recruitment of skilled managers for farm village experience will be necessary as well.
