  • This study aims at providing necessary informations for management decision-making to the hospital manager, such as ratios of fixed and variable cost to total operating expense, and variable cost ratio to operating revenues, and determinant factors affecting cost behavior. A study model and related hypotheses were established, data were collected from 41 private university hospitals for the 6years from 1998 to 2003, and regression analyses were performed to test the hypotheses. The results of the analyses and conclusions are as follows; First, labor cost and administration cost within the same number of beds have not only fixed quality of the cost, but variable quality of that. Also, the ratio of the variable costs to operating revenue of the metropolitan was estimated 76.9% and that of other area hospitals was 80.1%. Second, the major factors affecting the increase rate of the operating expense were the increase rates of the number of inpatients, the number of employee, and the number of hospital operating bed. This result implies that maintaining a optimal hospital bed size and efficient operation of the beds are important strategic factors of hospital management.

  • In order to respond dynamic changes in the global distribution system, the City of Pyeongtaek hope to expand port facilities and its hinterlands. In specific, it plans to designate these areas as free economic zones(FEZ), synthesizing the whole procedures from the development proposals to the operation and management. This paper examines the proposed urban development strategies focused on Pyeongtaek port which still reveals critical weakness as a gateway port backed up by the Seoul Metropolitan Areas. In order to enhance the global competitiveness of Pyeongtaek port, theoretically it depends on Geo Coyle's ACTIFELD methods. In addition to the traditional quantitative data, Coyle's ACTIFELD methods emphasize qualitative approaches, all of which would facilitate structural and systemic analyses of complex social phenomena. Applying ACTIFELD methods, this paper proposes that the City of Pyeongtaek should focus on three alternatives. That is, Pyeongtaek's policy priority should be given to ts he port city based on the key concepts of Supply Chain Management(SCM), Co-opetition supporting city, and waterfront-initiated urban development.

  • Interests on Service Level Agreement(SLA), an immanence operating tool for managing the level of the information system service objectively and qualitatively, were raised among IT outsourcing service providers, outsourcers, and operating departments. Yet, only a few domestic conglomerates adopted the SLA, and exact usage of the SLA is currently unknown. Because of the importance of the SLA between a service recipient and a service provider, the agreement is treated with high confidentiality. This raised the problems to organizations which are considering the SLA but lack in the concrete guide line to internalize SLA management process. This study provides the process model of implementation for SLA by conducting multiple case research. The sampled companies are currently implementing the SLA over 1 year of usage period. Factors were used to provide the managerial contribution for implementing the SLA. To analyse the case samples, in-depth interview method was conducted for each sampled company. As a result, if SLA can be used as an immanence managerial tool and can be actively implemented, it will be an strategic tool for various decision making in IT management practice with long term relationship, better shared partnership, and continuous service improvement.

  • Although patents have mainly been considered as the results of the invention process, of late their value as strategic assets have increasingly been emphasized. Consequently, the competition for patents among firms has intensified, and the number of patent disputes have been steadily increasing. Patent disputes, which cause enormous expense and resource utilization, increase uncertainty and have been considered as a threat or problem for the firms involved. Patent disputes are expected to have a significant impact on the decision making about subsequent innovation activities. This study attempts to analyze the effect of patent disputes on the subsequent innovative activities of the firms that are sued. After experiencing litigation as defendants, we examine their subsequent patenting strategies. According to the results of the study, firms who are experiencing patent litigation are more likely to achieve high-quality patents and cite recent technology when they apply for patents. Meanwhile, patent litigation experience has been shown to negatively affect the amount of subsequent patents applied. This study increases understanding by examining whether patent disputes, which have been mainly recognized negatively as obstacles, can be an opportunity that comes during a crisis.

  • This study aims to integrate the simulation models for rural settlement planning (SimRusep) in the district level (Myon) area of rural counties. The SimRusep, which has two modules of key villages selection and spatial planning for the selected villages, consists of four sub-models such as the spatial location-allocation model of center villages (SLAMCV), the potential centrality evaluation model (PCEM), the land use planning model (LUPM), and the 3-dimensional spatial planning modeller (3DSPLAM). Basically, map data of the integrated system which can be operated on the UNIX environment is inputted and treated using GIS (ARC/INFO) and then its village planning results is graphically presented on the AutoCAD. In order to verify the practical applicabilities of the SimRusep, an administrative area, Ucheon-myun, HoengSung-gun, KangWon-do, was selected as a case study area. It was well operated in the strategic application trials considering application of each sub-model in the study area. The operation results of the SimRusep showed the possibilities of realtime simulation from the selection of key village to its final stereoscopic presentation of planned results. Alternative village plan proposals can be swiftly drafted, which means very practical support for decision making process and public participation.

  • This paper focuses on method of setting priorities for telecommunications Standardization in which usually includes prioritization, resource allocation, standardization schedule for each SWA is based on prioritization of SWAs. We mainly used the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and a modified Delphi technique as a method for planning process. Recently, rapid technology evolution in telecommunications fields increases the necessity of developing more and more new standards. Also increased complexity of technologies makes standards more complicated, more specified and more thick than the past ones. As a result, the number of SWAa(Standardization Work Areas) and SWIs(Standardization Work Iterms) is being increased continuously. Furthermore, rapid telecommunication environment changes such as deregulation, liberalization, privatization, regionalization, and globalization surrounding telecommunications standardization grows increasingly important. To cope with these challenges and to make the more efficient use of the limited standardization resources, i.e., time, financial, personal resources, we will suggest logical and rational approach that is a backbone of strategic plan for telecommunication standardization. The telecommunication standardization planning process involves a MCDM(Multi-Criteria Decision Making) process. The Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) is a kind of MCDM approach. Our method is based on a combination of a modified Delphi technique and an application of AHP(spreadsheet model). Analyzed data from Delphi technique is used as inputs to AHP. In addition we also focus on the technique how to combine group judgments and to handle a large number of comparisons.

  • The purpose of this study is to test the effect of business strategy on valuation error. Business strategy includes managerial decision making and managerial tendency. In previous research, there is a negative relationship between business strategy and accounting quality. In this study, we try to confirm whether strategy tendencies affected valuation errors. In order to confirm empirically between business strategy and overvaluation, we use 8,117 firms that between 2006 and 2017 and listed in KSE and KOSDAQ. We calculated business strategy which is introduced by Bentley, Omer, and Sharp (2013). We also used the overvaluation method introduced in Rhodes-Kropf, Robinson, and Viswanathan (2005). The results show that the more the leading business strategy is, the greater the value error becomes. In the case of dividing into leading and defensive companies, the lead firms showed a significant positive correlation with the valuation errors, while the defensive firms showed the negative relationship with overvaluation. This study examined the business strategy and the overvaluation. we confirmed whether the management strategy deepens the evaluation error caused by the firm characteristics. The results are meaningful that we extended the study on the quality of financial reporting of leading strategic firms.
