Earlier studies on hollow-circular rubber bearings, all of which are conducted for steel-reinforced bearings, indicate that the hole presence not only decreases the compression modulus of the bearing but also increases the maximum shear strain developing in the bearing due to compression, both of which are basic design parameters also for fiber-reinforced rubber bearings. This paper presents analytical solutions to the compression problem of hollow-circular fiber-reinforced rubber bearings. The problem is handled using the most-recent formulation of the "pressure method". The analytical solutions are, then, used to investigate the effects of reinforcement flexibility and hole presence on bearing's compression modulus and maximum shear strain in the bearing in view of four key parameters: (i) reinforcement extensibility, (ii) hole size, (iii) bearing's shape factor and (iv) rubber compressibility. It is shown that the compression stiffness of a hollow-circular fiber-reinforced bearing may decrease considerably as reinforcement flexibility and/or hole size increases particularly if the shape factor of the bearing is high and rubber compressibility is not negligible. Numerical studies also show that the existence of even a very small hole can increase the maximum shear strain in the bearing significantly, which has to be considered in the design of such annular bearings.
High temperature uniaxial compression tests in the alpha single phase region were carried out on the Ti -43mo1%Al intermetallic compound, in order to obtain oriented lamellar microstructure. The compression deformation temperatures and strain rates are from 1573k to 1623k and 1.0x10$^{-4}$ s to 5.0x10$^{-3}$ s, respectively. Fully lamellar microstructure was observed after the uniaxial compression deformation in a single phase region followed by cooling to room temperature. Lamellar colony diameter depended on strain rates and test temperatures. The diameter varied between 8601m and 300fm. Stress-strain curve showed a work softening and the size of lamellar colony diameter varied depending on peak stresses. This shows the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization. Texture measurements after the uniaxial compression deformation, showed the development of fiber during dynamic recrystallization. It is seen that the area for the maximum pole density existed in 35 degrees away from the compression plane. The texture sharpens with a decrease in strain rate
To investigate the behavior of plastic deformation in axisymmetric extrusion through square dies, experimental works with the plasticine as a model material are carried out at the room temperature. Some mechanical properties of the model material are determined by compression and ring compression tests. Visioplasticity method using expermental grid distortion in extrusion is introduced to analyze the plastic flow strain rate and strain distribution. In spite of severe deformation during the extrusion through square die the visioplasticity method shows good results for the distribution of effective strain rate and effective strain.
To evaluate transport-induced cladding embrittlement after interim-dry storage, ring compression tests were carried out at room temperature(RT) and 135 ℃. The ring compression test specimens were prepared by simulating the interim-dry storage conditions that include four peak cladding temperatures of 250, 300, 350 and 400 ℃, two tensile hoop stresses of 80 and 100 MPa, two hydrogen contents of 250 and 500 wt.ppm-H and a cooling rate of 0.3 ℃/min. Radial hydride fractions of the ring specimens vary depending on those interim-dry storage conditions. The RT compression tests generated lower offset strains than the 135 ℃ ones. In addition, the RT and 135 ℃ compression tests indicate that a higher peak cladding temperature, a higher tensile hoop stress and the lower hydrogen content generated a lower offset strain. Based on the embrittlement criterion of 2.0% offset strain, an allowable peak temperature during the interim-dry storage may be proposed to be less than 350 ℃ under the tensile hoop stress of 80 MPa at the terminal cool-down temperature of 135 ℃.
Conventional hyperbolic model does not satisfactorily predict the overall stress-strain behaviors of various geomaterials. Tatsuoka and Shibuya(1992) suggest the generalized hyperbolic equation(GHE) considering strain dependency and calculated performance is in good agreement with precise triaxial compression test results of stress-strain relations over wide range of strains before peak stress condition in some cases, but GHE model also does not satisfactorily predict stress-strain relations as strain goes on state of peak stress in most cases. For improve a weak point of the GHE, in this study, modified form of generalized hyperbolic equation (MGHE model) is proposed which can predict highly nonlinear stress-strain behavior for various geomaterials from small strain to peak stress condition.

As global warming accelerates, the transportation industry is increasing the use of lightweight materials with the goal of reducing carbon emissions. Magnesium is a suitable material, but its poor formability limits its use, so research is needed to improve it. Rare-earth elements are known to effectively control texture development, but their high cost limits commercial. In this study, changes in microstructure and texture were investigated by adding Pb, which is expected to have a similar effect as rare-earth elements. The material used is Mg-15wt%Pb alloy. Initial specimens were obtained by rolling at 773 K to a rolling reduction of 25% and heat treatment. Afterwards, plane strain compression was performed at 723 K with a strain rate of 5×10-2s-1 and a strain of -0.4 to -1.0. As a result, recrystallized grains were formed within the microstructure, and the main component of the texture changed from (0,0) to (30,26). The maximum axial density was initially 10.01, but decreased to 4.23 after compression.
In order to investigate shear behavior of granular materials due to excavation and associated unloading actions, load-controlled plane strain compression tests under decreasing confining pressure were performed under drained conditions and the results were compared with the conventional plane strain compression tests. Four types of granular material consisting of two quartz sands and two glass beads were used to investigate particle shape effects. It is clarified that macro stress-strain behavior is more easily influenced by stress level and stress path in sands than in glass beads. Development of localized deformation was analyzed using photogrammetry method. It was found that shear bands are generated before peak strength and shear band patterns vary during the whole shearing process. Under the same test condition, shear band thickness in the two sands was smaller than that in one type of glass beads even if the materials have almost the same mean particle size. Shear band thickness also decreased with increase of confining pressure regardless of particle shape or size. Local maximum shear strain inside shear band grew approximately linearly with global axial strain from onset of shear band to the end of softening. The growth rate is found related to shear band thickness. The wider shear band, the relatively lower the growth rate. Finally, observed shear band inclination angles were compared with classical Coulomb and Roscoe solutions and different results were found for sands and glass beads.

The influence of reinforcement buckling on the flexural response of reinforced concrete members is studied. The stress-strain response of compression reinforcement is determined computationally using a large-strain finite element model for bars of varied diameter, length, and initial eccentricity, and a mathematical expression is fitted to the simulation results. This relationship is used to represent the response of bars in compression in a moment-curvature analysis of a reinforced concrete cross section. The compression bar may carry more or less force than a tension bar at a corresponding strain, depending on the relative influence of Poisson effects and bar slenderness. Several cross-section analyses indicate that, for the distances between stirrups prescribed in modern concrete codes, the influence of inelastic buckling of the longitudinal reinforcement on the monotonic moment capacity is very small and can be neglected in many circumstances.
To investigate the stress-strain relation of PVC-FRP Confined Concrete (PFCC) column with RC ring beam joint subjected to eccentric compression, the experiment of 13 joint specimens, which were designed with principle of "strong joint and weak column", were presented. Several variable parameters, such as reinforcement ratio, width and height of ring beam, FRP strips spacing and eccentricity, were considered. The specimens were eventually damaged by the crushing of concrete, the fracture of PVC tube and several FRP strips. With the FRP strips spacing or eccentricity increased, the ultimate carrying capacity of specimens declined. The strain of FRP strips and axial strain of PVC tube decreased as FRP strips spacing decreased. The decrease of eccentricity would slow down the development of strain of FRP strips and axial strain of PVC tube. The slope of stress-strain curve of PFCC column decreased as FRP strips spacing or eccentricity increased. The ultimate strain of PFCC column reduced as FRP strips spacing increased, while the effect of eccentricity on the ultimate strain of PFCC was not distinct. Considering the influence of eccentricity on the stress-strain relation, a modified stress-strain model for conveniently predicting the weak PFCC column and strong RC ring beam joint under eccentric compression was proposed and it was in good agreement with the experimental data.
