Objectives: Biomonitoring programs have been widely implemented in the field of environmental health, both in Korea and worldwide. Recently, it has been suggested that the storage, management, and utilization of biosamples collected from biomonitoring programs should be organized based on a biobank system. Therefore, we attempted to review the current status of representative biomonitoring programs and biobank systems that have been implemented in Korea and in other countries. Methods: We searched for bio-samples collected in domestic and foreign biomonitoring programs and their applications. For this, we referred to research papers, homepages hosted by biomonitoring programs, and project reports. We also checked information for biobanks related with biomonitoring programs, including the operating systems, facilities, technologies, and regulations of biobanks. Results: We summarized six domestic and 32 foreign biomonitoring programs. These biomonitoring programs collected bio-samples to determine the relationship between environmental chemicals and diseases. Domestically, bio-samples from KoNEHS, KorSEP, MOCEH, KoCHENS, and KorEHS-C were stored at -80℃ in a deep freezer at the National Institute of Environmental Research, while KNHANES samples were stored at Korea Biobank, which has a stabilized biobanking system with a well-established database. Nine foreign biomonitoring programs (JECS, China-NHBP, CKB, CHMS, NHANES, GerES, Germaan ESB, MoBa, and UK Biobank) were ongoing for large populations. Among them, CKB, GermanESB, and UK biobank have been maintained for at least 10 years with their own biomonitoring programs as well as advanced systems for the safe storage of bio-samples. Conclusion: Currently on-going biobanks have devoted considerable efforts to managing bio-samples for public purposes. The preceding domestic and foreign biomonitoring programs and biobanks will be great references for constructing biobank facilities and systems for environmental public health in Korea in the future.

In South Korea, there have been many studies on efficient building-energy management using renewable energy facilities in single zero-energy houses or buildings. However, such management was limited due to spatial and economic problems. To realize a smart zero-energy city, studying efficient energy integration for the entire city, not just for a single house or building, is necessary. Therefore, this study was conducted in the eco-friendly energy town of Chungbuk Innovation City. Chungbuk successfully realized energy independence by converging new and renewable energy facilities for the first time in South Korea. This study analyzes energy data collected from public buildings in that town every minute for a year. We propose a smart city building-energy management model based on the results that combine various renewable energy sources with grid power. Supervised learning can determine when it is best to sell surplus electricity, or unsupervised learning can be used if there is a particular pattern or rule for energy use. However, it is more appropriate to use reinforcement learning to maximize rewards in an environment with numerous variables that change every moment. Therefore, we propose a power distribution algorithm based on reinforcement learning that considers the sales of Energy Storage System power from surplus renewable energy. Finally, we confirm through economic analysis that a 10% saving is possible from this efficiency.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to assess the oral health care of the elderly in long-term care facility on caregivers' behaviors. Methods : Cross-sectional study in a cluster sample of 171 caregivers recruited from 17 facilities located in the Province of Gangwon. The Questionnaire was consisted of 16 items contained oral hygiene care, denture care, oral health education and general characteristics(Chronba's ${\alpha}$=0.87). Using SPSS WIN 12.0, descriptive statistics and chi-square test were conducted to examine the subjects general characteristics, the status of oral health education and denture care. Results : 1. The mean age of care givers was 42 years and 88.9% education experience rate was found. 2. Above 70% of them was found in daily oral hygiene care after every meal. They used toothbrush and toothpaste, they keep the toothbrush properly. 3. The denture care was conducted by most of care givers, containing proper storage. But three of ten care givers was cleaned denture by toothpaste or used water only. It was severe at the care givers didn't received oral health education(p<0.05). Conclusions : The contents of oral health education for care givers should contain the denture care(time and the reason shouldn't use toothpaste). Further large-scale longitudinal studies are needed to determine professional oral health care and to develop evidence of the dental hygiene practice for the elderly in long-term care facilities.
Recently runoff reduction facilities such as detention ponds were rarely used and limited primarily to cases. A specific installation criteria and method of design for runoff reduction facilities is insignificant in our country. Also it has difficult problems with quantification. A detention pond being installed at outfalls and generalized in our country is adopted as basic form with infiltration facilities because quantification index for runoff reduction facilities have not been developed. A processing of detention pond design has to determinate storage volume and outlet form is very complex and wasting human resources and time in the planning step. In this study, we have been unified FFC11-SimPOND being able to simply calculate size with simplified design method of culvert outlet and made a computing model (SimPOND-CO) for practical users.
This descriptive study was conducted in order to develop a standard criteria for nursing laboratory facilities and equipment for use by the 3 year nursing colleges. The data was collected from Aug. 28 to Sept. 30, 1997 by mail from 44 3 year nursing schools. To develop a standard criteria, the syllabi for Fundamentals of Nursing laboratory and for Physical Assessment were collected and analyzed. The following information was elicited and analyzed by the researchers : 1. for each procedure in the syllabus, the percentage of schools using the procedures 2. the facilities and equipment recognized as necessary and the percentage of schools which possess each item 3. calculation of the standard criteria for size of the nursing laboratory together with a list of the necessary facilities and equipment. The results of the study were as follows : 1. The Size of facility was 181.2m2 for fundamentals of Nursing laboratory and 56.4m2 for the storage room. For those whose number of students exceed 120, 1.98m2 is required for each students. 2. The number of items included in the standard criteria was 92 for Fundamentals of Nursing and Physical Assessment and 47 for other nursing subjects. The items made of rubber, plastic and the disposable ones were suggested but excluded from the standard criteria. Based on the above findings, the following suggestions were made : 1. Periodic review of the standard criteria is necessary to update the standard. 2. A study on the standardization of the curriculum for basic science laboratory, including experiment and a standard criteria of equipment, is necessary. 3. A study to develop a computer program for management of nursing laboratory facilities and equipment is needed.

Construction of the water-friendly facilities in the apartment complex and industrial complex became popular these days. In planning water-friendly facilities, kinds, layouts, water sources, water quality and water circulation system should be studies. In this study, several alternatives for a regional industrial complex project were studies and a most reasonal alternative was selected. A main canal across the central part of the complex is the principle facility with ponds and parks. The water source alternatives were a river nearby, a reservoir, ground water and urban water supply system. For each system, water quantity and quality, circulation system, permit and maintenance were compared. The facilities should be constructed with natural material such as rock and gravel. Average depth and velocity in the canal should be 10 cm and 0.15 m/s, respectively in order to people can feel the water flow in the canal. Based on the comparison, it is found that using the ground water, and water circulation system with storage tanks at the upper and lower ends of the canal system is the best alternative.

The present study investigated the actual conditions of physical therapy rooms at long-term hospitals in Korea and conducted a comparative analysis to develop an efficient floor plan and facility improvement measures. 1. At hospitals surveyed, physical therapy services were used at a high frequency but they did not have enough space for rehab treatment and long paths of patient flow were found to make patient management inconvenient. Therefore, physical therapy units should be conveniently located both in terms of distance and direction so as to be accessible from patient rooms or wards. The space should be organized in a concentrated layout for efficiency of physical therapy, and floor planning for therapy units should ensure the best possible viewing angle to therapists. 2. With regard to the disease characteristics of patients, many physical therapy rooms were in difficult circumstances because of poor facilities, so they need to secure skilled personnel, supplement apparatuses and equipment and have rooms for functional recovery, hydrotherapy and operation treatment. In addition, each of the curtained or partitioned areas for treatment should be set up with consideration for the amount of space taken up by medical equipment. The area under each bed should be designed for patient convenience so that it can be used as storage space for patient's belongings and shoes. 3. Patients complained about the lack of physical therapy space, resting places or exercise areas and demanded the expansion of rehab programs and facilities. Physical therapy facilities need to be improved for patient privacy and effective natural ventilation. 4. At most of the long-term hospitals surveyed, physical therapy units were found to have small areas and treatment equipment and devices were insufficient compared to the number of patients. Therefore, it is required to secure more space (at least 138.24 sq. meters per 100 beds) and improve facilities for better physical therapy services.
This study examined food safety management at preschool establishments in Daegu and Gyeongbuk province, to provide data that can be used for food safety improvements. Field assessments of 60 foodservice establishments were executed from July to October, 2007. Statistical analyses of the data were conducted using the SPSS package program (version 14.0 for windows). The results are summarized as follows: 93.3% of the preschool foodservices were self-operated, and 24.1% of the child care centers and 96.7% of the kindergartens had employed dietitians. According to the averaged food safety evaluation scores the kindergartens (80.73) had a significantly higher score than the child care centers (50.37), and the public centers (85.00) had a significantly higher score than the private centers (54.29). While the average score of facilities that employed dietitian (73.58) was significantly higher than that of facilities that did not employ a dietitian (52.65). In addition, the average score of facilities that served meals in a dining room (80.83) was significantly higher than that of facilities that served meals in a classroom (59.33). The highest scoring food safety items included verifying employee health inspection reports (1.87), utilizing non-municipal water and routinely cleaning and well-maintaining the water storage tank (1.85), and disposing small amounts of leftovers in a vat after serving (1.83). In contrast, the lowest scores were for physical separation of clean areas and unclean areas to prevent cross-contamination (0.52), and physical separation between staff and food material entry areas (0.62). In conclusion, the preschool foodservice evaluated in this study required improvements in food safety management, and many of the child care centers were in need of immediate attention. To improve food safety at these establishments, administrators should implement prerequisite food safety programs.

Within the scope that does not interfere with the performance of basic duty, the military has been actively supporting the national policy for the conservation of the natural environment in accordance with the "military environmental protection guidelines". Since there is a lack of information regarding inhabitation for wild fauna and flora, field investigations of the natural environment at Jinhae local unit were performed three times in 2003. As a result of the investigation, lycoris sanguinea as flora, marten, otter, and leopard cat as mammalia, and accipiter soloensis, accipiter gentilis schvedow, accipiter gularis, buteo hemilasius, falco tinnunculus and terpsiphone atrocaudata as bird were confirmed to inhabit. For the conservation of the natural ecosystem, the expansion of research for natural ecosystems within the military unit is required. Additionally, environmental pollution can be prevented through the proper maintenance of basic environmental facilities including sewage treatment facilities, soil pollution control facilities, and waste storage facilities. In cooperation with local governments and private organizations, the natural cleansing action and sustainable wildlife conservation should be expanded.
