Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. Pekinensis) is Brassica vegetable that contains high amounts of glucosinolates. Glucosinolates and their breakdown products are thought to contribute to health promotion by preventing some cancers. Chinese cabbage is the most commonly consumed vegetable in Asian countries including Korea. In this study, qualitative and quantitative analyses of 3-butenyl glucosinolate (Gluconapin) from different cultivars and different parts of the cabbage were performed. Gluconapin of Chinese cabbage was extracted by hot ethanol ($80^{\circ}C$), isolated by an anion exchange column and identified by GC/MS and LC/MS. The levels of glucosinolates in Chinese cabbage varied according to the different parts, cultivars, and blanching time. In general, the concentrations of 3-butenyl isothiocyanate (ITC) were higher in the leaf than in the midribs parts. The cultivar 'Bulam no. 3' had a much greater content of 3-butenyl ITC than the cultivar 'Garak no. 1,' and the levels of butenyl ITC were highest after two weeks of storage. Blanching treatment decreased the concentration of 3-butenyl ITC. The ITC concentration varied extensively among different crops of the same species, and according to the different parts on the cabbage, the storage duration and the boiling time.
To study on the standard food cooking method of perilla seed soup, author analyzed the fatty acids of the soup by gas chromatography, and estimated its appearance, flavor, taste, viscosity, and overall taste by the sensory evaluation. We measured the change of TBA (Thiobarbituric acid) values of the oil from perilla seed soup during the period of storage at $4^{\circ}C$. The results were as follows: 1. The sensory evaluation indicated the best level at the S4 group, the ratio of rice powder to perilla seed was 50 to 40. 2. The most fatty acid of S4 group (perilla seed: 40 g) was linolenic acid. 3. The TBA values of the oil from perilla seed soup increased continuously according to the storage duration at $4^{\circ}C$. According to these results, it was concluded that perilla seed soup would supplement essential fatty acid, linolenic acid.
The objective of this study was to evaluate their effects as the meat antioxidant and on the antioxidant enzymes like superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase during the refrigeration storage of ground beef, respectively. Ground beef loin was treated by three natural antioxidants(pycnogenol, catechin, ${\alpha}$-tocopherol) and the synthetic antioxidant(BHT) at the level of 0.01%(w/w) of total fat. Samples were refrigerated at $4{\sim}6^{\circ}C$ for 3, 5, 7 and 10 days to evaluate the color and the pH as the quality parameters, TBA value and fatty acid composition as the parameters of lipid peroxidation, and the activities of SOD and catalase. This study showed that catechin and pycnogenol were excellent in terms of meat color, pH and delaying lipid peroxidation and also maintained the activity of in vivo SOD and catalase better than ${\alpha}$-tocopherol and BHT. These results suggested that the duration of the refrigeration of ground beef may be prolonged up to 10 days in catechin and pycnogenol treated ones in terms of the lipid peroxidation, but 5 days of refrigeration will be more adequate if considering the microbial safety as food, too.
Various concentrations of whey protein isolate (WPI), such as 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5, and 5.0%(w/v), containing 1.0%(w/v) eugenol were prepared by high speed homogenization to formulate nanoemulsions (NEs) and to investigate their antimicrobial activity. The results showed that particle size decreased according to increases in WPI concentration. Similarly, the ${\zeta}$-potential value was reduced to a negative charge when using WPI concentrations >0.1%(w/v). In contrast, no significant differences in particle size were observed during 1 mon of storage, except for the 0.1%(w/v) WPI NE. The ${\zeta}$-potential value depended on the increase in WPI concentration and storage duration, except for NE1 and NE5, suggesting that a low or high concentration of emulsifier was not effective for maintaining the droplet form of the eugenol NE. The results of an antibacterial effect investigation indicated that the growth of Escherichia coli was inhibited based on an increase in eugenol concentration in all NE formulations. Moreover, a membrane permeability study showed that total leakage content increased according to incubation time.
This study aimed to determine inhibitory effect of pathogen growth by adding green tea extracts to some cook-chill foods. For this study, chicken meat salad and pyeonyuk were blended with green tea extracts to different concentrations of 0, 2 and $3\%$ and prepared in a cook-chill system. S. typhimurium in chickien meat salad; Better antibacterial effects of green tea extracts were observed at a $3\%$ concentration, compared with a $2\%$ concentration. Populations of S. aureus in chicken meat salad; antibacterial effects at a $3\%$ concentration became significant from 3days while that at a $2\%$ concentration remained steady throughout the five-day duration. All three testing samples exhibited a decrease in populations of S. aureus during storage. In pyeonyuk, S. aureus counts at a $3\%$ concentration were 7.26 CFU/g on day 3 and declined to 6.61 CFU/g and 6.48 CFU/g on the following days, showing a greater degree of decline than that of a $2\%$ concentration.
This paper proposes probabilistic reliability evaluation model of power system considering Wind Turbine Generator(WTG) integrated with Energy Storage System(ESS). Monte carlo sample state duration simulation method is used for the evaluation. The power output from WTG units usually fluctuates randomly. Therefore, the power cannot be counted on to continuously satisfy the system load. Although the power output at any time is not controllable, the power output can be utilized when needed if ESS is available. The ESS may make to smooth the fluctuation of the WTG power output. The detail process of power system reliability evaluation considering Multi-ESS cooperated WTG is presented using case study of Jeju island power system in the paper.
In the existing literature, most of the purchasing models were developed only for retailers problem ignoring the constraint of storage capacity of retailers shop/showroom. In this paper, we have developed a deterministic model of wholesaler-retailers' problem of single product. The storage capacity of wholesaler's warehouse/showroom and retailers' showroom/shop are assumed to be finite. The items are transported from wholesaler's warehouse to retailers' Own Warehouse (OW) in a lot. The customer's demand is assumed to be displayed inventory level dependent. Demands are met from OW and that spaces of OW will immediately be filled by shifting the same amount from the Rented Warehouse (RW) till the RW is empty. The time duration between selling from OW and filling up its space by new ones from RW is negligible. According to relative size of the retailers' existing (own) warehouse capacity and the demand factors, different scenarios are identified. Our objectives are to optimize the cost functions of wholesaler and two retailers separately. To solve this problem, a real coded Genetic Algorithm (GA) with roulette wheel selection/reproduction, whole arithmetic crossover and non-uniform mutation is developed. Finally a numerical example is presented to illustrate the results for different scenarios. To compare the results of GA, Generalised Reduced Gradient Method has been used for the problem. Also, a sensitivity analysis has been performed to study the variations of the optimal average cost with respect to the different parameters.

Mucopolysaccharidosis type III (MPS III) is a rare genetic disorder caused by lysosomal storage of heparan sulfate. MPS IIIB results from a deficiency in the enzyme alpha-N-acetyl-D-glucosaminidase (NAGLU). Affected patients begin showing behavioral changes, progressive profound mental retardation, and severe disability from the age of 2 to 6 years. We report a patient with MPS IIIB with a long-term follow-up duration. He showed normal development until 3 years. Subsequently, he presented behavioral changes, sleep disturbance, and progressive motor dysfunction. He had been hospitalized owing to recurrent pneumonia and epilepsy with severe cognitive dysfunction. The patient had compound heterozygous c.1444C>T (p.R482W) and c.1675G>T (p.D559Y) variants of NAGLU. Considering that individuals with MPS IIIB have less prominent facial features and skeletal changes, evaluation of long-term clinical course is important for diagnosis. Although no effective therapies for MPS IIIB have been developed yet, early and accurate diagnosis can provide important information for family planning in families at risk of the disorder.
In this paper, a high efficiency satellite electrical power supply system is proposed. The increased efficiency of the power supply system allows for downscaling of the solar array and battery weight, which are among the most important satellite design considerations. The satellite power supply system comprises two units, namely a generation unit and a storage unit. To increase the efficiency of the solar array, a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) is used in the power generation unit. In order to improve the MPPT performance, a novel algorithm is proposed on the basis of the hill climbing method. This method can track the main peak of the array power curve in satellites with long duration missions under unpredicted circumstances such as a part of the array being damaged or the presence of a shadow. A lithium-ion battery is utilized in the storage unit. An algorithm for calculating the optimal rate of battery charging is proposed where the battery is charged with the maximum possible efficiency considering the situation of the satellite. The proposed system is designed and manufactured. In addition, it is compared to the conventional power supply systems in similar satellites. Results show a 12% increase in the overall efficiency of the power supply system when compared to the conventional method.
In the present work, we apply a technique that has been used for the expansion of graphite to multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). The nanotubes are rapidly heated for a short duration, followed by immersion in acid solution, so that they undergo expansion. The diameter of the expanded CNTs is 5-10 times larger than that of the as-received nanotubes. This results in considerable swelling of the CNTs and opening of the tube tips, which may facilitate the accessibility of lithium ions into the inner holes and the interstices between the nanotube walls. The Li-ion storage capacity of the expanded nanotubes is measured by using the material as an anode in Li-ion cells. The result show that the discharge capacity of the expanded nanotubes in the first cycle is as high as 2,160 mAh/g, which is about 28% higher than that of the un-treated MWCNT anode. However, the charge/discharge capacity quickly drops in subsequent cycles and finally reaches equilibrium values of ~370 mAh/g. This is possibly due to the destruction of the lattice structures by repeated intercalation of Li ions.
