  • Many applications involving induction motors that are controlled using variable frequency drives require the ability to stop quickly. These applications include emergency stops, quick stopping of fans, centrifuges, presses, etc. The technique that is widely accepted in the industry for achieving quick stopping makes use of brake resistors in series with a power semiconductor switch. The switch-resistor combination (brake-unit) is applied across the dc bus. The fastest decelerating time achievable depends on the size of the resistors and the switch employed. In this paper, the authors propose a novel method of achieving quick stopping times without the use of any brake-unit. Experimental test results with and without this method on a large inertia motor-load combination show that the proposed stopping method is able to reduce the stopping time significantly compared to normal decelerated stop without the need for a braking unit.

실리콘에 고에너지 안티몬이온주입의 실험과 개선된 모델에 관한 연구 (A Study of Experiment and Developed Model by Antimony High Energy Implantation in Silicon)

  • Antimony profiles by MeV implantation are measured by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and spreading resistance (SR). The moments of SIMS and simulated profiles are calculated and compared for the exact range in MeV energy. SRIM, DUPEX, ICECREM, and TSUPREM4 simulation programs are used for the calculation of range 1D, 2D. SRIM is a Monte Carlo simulation program and different inter-atomic potentials can be used for the calculation of nuclear stopping power cross-section (Sn) and range moments. Nevertheless, the range parameters were not influenced from nuclear stopping power in MeV. Through the modification of electronic stopping power cross-section (Se), the results of simulation are remarkably improved and matched very well with SIMS data. The values of electronic stopping power are optimized for Sb high energy implantation. For the electrical activation, Sb implanted samples are annealed under $N_2$ and $O_2$ ambient. Finally, Oxidation retard diffusion(ORD) effect of Sb implanted sample are demonstrated by SR measurements and ICECREM simulation.

ANALYSIS OF DOPPLER-BROADENED PEAK IN THERMAL NEUTRON INDUCED 10B(n,α γ)7Li REACTION USING HYPERGAM

  • The line shape functions for the Doppler-broadened gamma ray spectrum are considered in the $^{10}B(n,{\alpha}{\gamma})^7Li$ reaction occurring in a surrounding medium where the excited $^7Li$ nucleus is slowed down and stopped before decay. The phenomenological form of the stopping power was used for the broadening effect. Convolution with the detailed response of a germanium detector is taken into consideration for the simplest case of solely electronic stopping. A numerical study for the analysis of $^{10}B$ by thermal neutron capture is conducted by performing a parametric search and fitting the measured spectrum in a least-squares approach. In comparison with the previous numerical approach using the same analysis, the computational speed is increased and reliable information concerning the stopping power of the medium is obtained while estimating the uncertainty. Implementation of the routine analysis of $^{10}B$ is facilitated on a recent version of the gamma ray spectrum analysis package HyperGam.

  • 3MeV에 서 5.4MeV 사이의 $\alpha$-입자에 대한 저지능과 저지 단면적을 He, Ar, 및 $N_2$ 가스에 대해서 측정했다. Srivastava의 저지능 공식을 본 실험결과에 적용시켜 그 타당성을 알아보았다. 그결과 Ar의 경우는 매우 잘 일치됨을 보여주며, He의 경우는 27-28%, $N_2$의 경우는 13-26%의 불일치를 보여주고 있다.

  • In this paper, we propose new simple and efficient stopping criteria for W-CDMA turbo decoding. The new criteria are based on the sum of logarithm of absolute extrinsic information values and the count of one-estimations calculated after each component decoder. The calculation of the proposed criteria can be made simpler by summing one of ten values without any penalty. This Proposed method can be implemented with negligible overhead and no extra memory. Simulation results on W-CDMA standard shows that the number of iterations required is reduced compared to the existing stopping criteria without degrading the BER performance. Reduced iterations and simple operations make the proposed criteria desirable for low-power turbo decoder.

Feasibility study of using triple-energy CT images for improving stopping power estimation

  • The planning accuracy of charged particle therapy (CPT) is subject to the accuracy of stopping power (SP) estimation. In this study, we propose a method of deriving a pseudo-triple-energy CT (pTECT) that can be achievable in the existing dual-energy CT (DECT) systems for better SP estimation. In order to remove the direct effect of errors in CT values, relative CT values according to three scanning voltage settings were used. CT values of each tissue substitute phantom were measured to show the non-linearity of the values thereby suggesting the absolute difference and ratio of CT values as parameters for SP estimation. Electron density, effective atomic number (EAN), mean excitation energy and SP were calculated based on these parameters. Two of conventional methods were implemented and compared to the proposed pTECT method in terms of residuals, absolute error and root-mean-square-error (RMSE). The proposed method outperformed the comparison methods in every evaluation metrics. Especially, the estimation error for EAN and mean excitation using pTECT were converging to zero. In this proof-of-concept study, we showed the feasibility of using three CT values for accurate SP estimation. Our suggested pTECT method indicates potential clinical utility of spectral CT imaging for CPT planning.

이중 정지 기준을 사용한 저 전력 터보 디코더 설계 기술 (Low Power Turbo Decoder Design Techniques Using Two Stopping Criteria)

  • 최근 3세대 이동통신의 오류정정부호의 표준으로 채택된 터보 코드는 샤논의 한계에 가까운 성능을 보이며, 반복적인 디코딩 과정의 특성상 이동통신 시스템에서 전력 소모가 많은 블록 중 하나이다. 따라서 이동통신 기기의 전력 소모를 최소화하기 위한 노력으로 터보 디코더의 전력 소모를 줄이는 방법들에 대한 연구가 진행되어왔다. 본 논문에서는 디코딩 가능 임계값과 불가능 임계값 등 두개의 정지 기준을 적용함으로써 기존의 반복 디코딩 정지 기준 알고리즘을 개선하여, 오류정정 성능과 전력 소모면에서 기존의 방법보다 효율적인 새로운 터보 디코더 기술을 개발하였다. 실험 결과, 제안한 방법은 기존의 대표적인 방법에 비하여, 전체 12500회 실험 중 잘못된 오류정정 횟수는 평균적으로 89% 감소시키고 반복 디코딩 횟수는 29% 감소시킬 수 있었다.

모형기차의 구동부 설계를 위한 동역학적 성능해석 (Analysis of Dynamic Performance of Model Tranis for Their Drive Train Design)

  • Model trains should have very similar motion characteristics to real trains in order to provide realistic feeling to their operators. Main purpose of dynamic analysis of model trains is to predict velocities in straight and circular tracks and estimate stopping distance after power shut off. Equations of motion for a model train are derived that relates velocity, traction, rolling resistance, and pulling force. Also, energy equations for calculating stopping distance after power shut off are derived. Experiments with model trains are preformed to measure velocity, rolling resistance, slip, and stopping distance. The results are compared with the prediction based on the equations of motion, and they showed good agreement. It can be concluded that the prediction is more accurate when the slip between wheel and rail is accounted for. The analysis procedures can be applied to determining various design factors in model trains.

동력차용 브레이크슈의 제동성능에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental study on the braking performance of a brake shoe for power car)

  • In this paper, we investigated the braking performance of a composite brake shoe for power car. Laboratory bench test and field tests were carried out to characterize the braking performance by the parameters such as friction coefficient, wear rate, braking temperature and stopping distance. Density distribution was found to have a significant influence on the wear rate. The composite brake shoe with even density distribution showed better braking performance. The braking performance of a composite brake shoe was also compared with that of a cast iron brake shoe which is currently being used. The result indicated the performance of the composite brake shoe is better than the cast iron brake shoe.

Monte Carlo Simulation of Ion Implantation Profiles Calibrated for Various Ions over Wide Energy Range

  • Monte Carlo simulation is widely used for predicting ion implantation profiles in amorphous targets. Here, we compared Monte Carlo simulation results with a vast database of ion implantation secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), and showed that the Monte Carlo data sometimes deviated from the experimental data. We modified the electron stopping power model, calibrated its parameters, and reproduced most of the database. We also demonstrated that Monte Carlo simulation can accurately predict profiles in a low energy range of around 1keV once it is calibrated in the higher energy region.
