This paper proposes an algorithm to detect the stop line and crosswalk on the road surface using edge information and blob coloring. The detection has been considered as an important area of autonomous vehicle technologies. The proposed algorithm is composed of three phases: 1) hypothesis generation of stop lines, 2) hypothesis generation of crosswalks, and 3) hypothesis verification of stop lines. The last two phases are not performed if the first phase does not provide a hypothesis of a stop line. The last one is carried out by the combination of both hypotheses of stop lines and crosswalks, and determines the stop lines among stop line hypotheses. The proposed algorithm is proven to be effective through experiments with various images captured on the roads.
PURPOSES : This study performs fundamental research on ramp-metering design criteria. METHODS : We carefully review previous studies in terms of ramp-metering design criteria and then consider applicability in Korea. For this, traffic simulation model is employed to analyze actual effect according to specific location of stop-line when implementing ramp-metering. RESULTS : When a stop-line moving forward with a 50m interval, travel speed at mainline relative to current stop-line location tends to decrease. However, traveling speed at approach roads increase about 5~18% under the same condition. When a stop-line location moving backward with a 50m interval, mainline travel speed increase approximately 17~32% whereas traveling speed at approach roads decrease. All cases are compared with the current stop-line location. CONCLUSIONS : We believe that both cases are useful with respect to freeway management. For example, moving forward a stop-line case can be used management for queuing area at ramp section and approach roads. Moving backward a stop-line case can be used for traffic control, focusing on mainline of freeways.
The Korea National Police Agency launched a campaign to encourage drivers in stop line observance and to discourage stop line violation by intensively imposing fines. It was to increase stop line observance of drivers and thus traffic safety. According to statistics, the stop line observance rate was increased over 80 % of drivers during the campaign but regressed to the past after the campaign. This paper delivers the effect of the location of traffic signal lights on driver's stop line observance and develops a guideline to improve highway traffic environment in long terms. Statistical tests conducted based on field data showed that the drivers' stop line observance increases when traffic signal lights are closely installed from a stop line. It was proposed from the study that traffic signal lights be installed $10{\sim}20m$ from a stop line.
This paper presents an Around View Monitoring (AVM) stop-line detection based longitudinal position correction algorithm for automated driving on urban roads. Poor positioning accuracy of low-cost GPS has many problems for precise path tracking. Therefore, this study aims to improve the longitudinal positioning accuracy of low-cost GPS. The algorithm has three main processes. The first process is a stop-line detection. In this process, the stop-line is detected using Hough Transform from the AVM camera. The second process is a map matching. In the map matching process, to find the corrected vehicle position, the detected line is matched to the stop-line of the HD map using the Iterative Closest Point (ICP) method. Third, longitudinal position of low-cost GPS is updated using a corrected vehicle position with Kalman Filter. The proposed algorithm is implemented in the Robot Operating System (ROS) environment and verified on the actual urban road driving data. Compared to low-cost GPS only, Test results show the longitudinal localization performance was improved.
Position of stop line according to left turn trajectory at intersections was studied. The Purpose of this study is to suggest a design guideline of left turn trajectory at intersections which is related to the Position of cross road stop line. Distance from the curb line to the stop line at each lane was calculated and discussed for various combination of road widths. Three design vehicle type and three control radii were considered. Setbacks of stop line from the curb line are Proportional to the control radius which depends on type of design vehicle. 8m, lim and 19m setback for control radius of 12m, 15m and 23m were calculated respectively as their maximum value. This result will be helpful to Paint the road marking on the Pavement which is usually difficult to fit to the designated radius. Field study of the effect of left turn trajectory on flow rate and safety was conducted. It was approved that improperly designed left turn trajectory decreases left turn capacity and increases conflicts among left turn flows of the adjacent lane.
Alternate use of lane at a signalized intersection is a quite different control of the operation of an intersection. This control introduces a new stop line and signal before the original stop line. All of the lanes between the two stop lines are used for left turn traffic or through traffic at a time. The purpose of the control is increasing the capacity of a n intersection without widening the approach width. this paper contains a study on the condition of a application, the proper distances between the two stop lines, the reasonable offsets(rear) to guarantee clearing the vehicles of previous phase, the comparison of approach capacity between the existing control and this control. The study results reveals that the offsets(rear) are rather stable showing the range(maximum value minus minimum value) of it's value does not exceed 3.6 seconds according to the field data. The approach capacity will be increased by 27%, 43%, 59%, 84% when the distances between the stop lines are 30.0m respectively. The control might have theoretical limitation to operate in practice. So an experimental application of the control at some suitable intersections prior to expanding it.

In this paper, we proposed a compact arbitrary dual-band band-stop filter using CRLH transmission line. The proposed filter used CRLH transmission line as stub and it developed dual-band band-stop characteristics using non-linear phase response of CRLH transmission line. The size of proposed filter is compact. And it can control arbitrary dual stop band. In this paper, designed band-stop filter at GPS band and ISM band As result, the S(2,1) is about -30dB at GPS band and about -29dB at ISM band. The fabricated filter is very compact. Its dimension is 10mm*15mm.

A conceptual model represents an understanding of a system that is going to be developed, which in this research, a driving simulation software to study driver behavior at signalised intersections. Therefore, video observation was conducted to study driver compliance behaviour within the dilemma zone at signalised intersection, with regards to driver's distance from the stop line during yellow light interval. The video was analysed using Thematic Analysis and the data extracted from it was analysed using Chi-Square Independent Test. The Thematic Analysis revealed two major themes which were traffic situation and driver compliance behaviour. Traffic situation is defined as traffic surrounding the driver, such as no car in front and behind, car in front, and car behind. Meanwhile, the Chi-Square Test result indicates that within the dilemma zone, there was a significant relationship between driver compliance behaviour and driver's distance from the stop line during yellow light interval. The closer the drivers were to the stop line, the more likely they were going to comply. In contrast, drivers showed higher non-compliant behavior when further away from stop line. This finding could help in the development of conceptual model of driving simulation with purpose in studying driver behavior.
A new type low-pass filter design method based on a coupled line and transmission line theory is proposed to suppress harmonics by attenuation poles in the stop band. The design formula are derived using the equivalent circuit of a coupled transmission line. The new low-pass filter structure is shown to have attractive properties such as compact size, wide stop band range and low insertion loss. The seventh-order low-pass filter designed by present method has a cutoff frequency of 0.9 CHz with a 0.01 dB ripple level. The coupled line type low-pass filter with strip line configuration was fabricated by using a high-temperature superconducting (HTS : YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ thin film on MgO(100) substrate. Since the HTS coupled tine type low-pass filter was proposed with five attenuation poles in stop band such as 1.8, 2.5, 4, 5.5, 6.2 GHz. The fabricated low-pass filter has improved the attenuation characteristics up to seven times of the cutoff frequency.
Recently, in the metro railways, researches on the skip-stop operation and development of the double deck train-set are active, which is to improve the service quality through reducing the passenger travel time and suppling seating service. Constructing new line or reforming the existent line needs huge amount of budget. Therefore, previous to start these large scale projects, scrutiny on benefit improvement, cost reduction and those optimal trade-off is indispensable. In this paper, a quantitative analysis to determine the optimal train service patterns and train-sets necessary is proposed, under the skip-stop operation condition in the metro railways. The analysis models are formulated in mathematical programming model, and tested validity using the LINGO 7.0.
