  • This study aims to determine whether there are differences in the average abnormal return, trading volume activity, and trading frequency activity in pharmaceutical stocks before and after the announcement of the first case of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Indonesia. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling method and collected as many as nine pharmaceutical companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2019-2020. The data used in this study were secondary data in the form of daily data on stock closing prices, Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG), stock volume trading, number of shares outstanding, and stock trading frequency. This study was an event study with an observation period of 14 days, namely seven days before and seven days after the announcement of the coronavirus's first positive case in Indonesia. Hypothesis testing employed the paired sample t-test method. Based on the results, it was found that there was no difference in the average abnormal return of pharmaceutical stocks before and after the announcement of the first case of COVID-19. However, there was a difference in the average trading volume activity and the average trading frequency activity in pharmaceutical stocks before and after the announcement of the first case of COVID-19.

  • The primary purpose of the study is to investigate the volatility spillover from financial uncertainty (FU) of the United States (US) to the stock markets of SAARC member countries including India, Sri-Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The empirical literature overlooked SAARC countries and the FU index. Based on the estimation method, the data of FU is available for three different forecast horizons including 1-month, 3-months, and 12-months. For empirical analysis, monthly data is used from February 2013 to September 2019. EGARCH model is employed to investigate the volatility spillover effects. The findings of the study show that the spillover effect of FU varies with the forecast horizon. The FU with a higher forecast horizon has a significant spillover effect on more countries. The spillover effect of US financial uncertainty is negative in most of the SAARC countries. Bangladesh stock market is influenced by FU with all three forecast horizons whereas the volatility of the Pakistan stock market is not influenced by FU with any forecast horizon. The findings are consistent with the concept of "limited trade openness" in the financial markets of emerging economies. The emerging economies avoid financial market openness to minimize the risk of spillover of other countries.

  • Based on assessing the impact of factors on the business efficiency of construction enterprises, the research team proposes policy implications to improve the business performance of listed construction enterprises in Vietnam in the coming time. The study used secondary data collected from the audited financial statements of 25 enterprises listed on Vietnam's stock market in the period 2015-2021 to estimate the factors affecting the business performance of construction enterprises. After collecting, the data will be encrypted and checked. The article uses a quantitative research method by using a linear regression model on Eviews 10 to analyze the data and analyze the impact of factors on the business performance of construction enterprises listed on Vietnam's stock market. The research result shows that firm size and growth rate positively affect business performance while capital structure, receivable management, fixed asset investment, and economic growth have a positive impact on the business performance of construction companies listed on the Vietnamese stock market. Based on this result, the paper also makes recommendations to the Vietnamese construction companies to enhance their business performance.

  • Benefit-cost analysis is a useful tool for organizing information on the relative value of alternative public investments like national park preservation projects. When the value of all significant benefits and costs can be expressed in monetary terms, the net value (benefits minus costs) of the alternatives under consideration can be computed and used to identify the alternative that yields the greatest increase in public welfare. However, since goods and services of national parks are not commonly bought or sold in the marketplace, it can be difficult to express the outputs of a national park preservation project in monetary terms. In this case the dichotomous choice contingent valuation is employed to elicit the public benefit value. In this paper, a distribution-free approach, Turnbull empirical distribution model, is employed to analysis the benefit value of Woraksan National Park. The result is shown that annual use and preservation values of Woraksan National Park are estimated 6.5 and l37.4 billion won. Also, flow and stock values are estimated 143.9 and 3,021.7 billion won, respectively.

  • In most of supply chain planning practices, the estimated demands, which are forecasted for each individual period in a forecasting window, are regarded as deterministic. But, in reality, the forecasted demands for the periods of a given horizon are stochastically distributed. Instead of using a safety stock, this study considers a direct control of service level by choosing the demand used in planning from the distributed forecasted demand values for the corresponding period. Using the demand quantile and echelon stock concept, we propose a simple but efficient heuristic algorithm for multi-echelon serial systems under service level constraints. Through a comprehensive simulation study, the proposed algorithm was shown to be very accurate compared with the optimal solutions.

  • Purpose - Since Iran's economy is only now developing, and its stock market is only now emerging, we should deal with the relationship between ownership structure and conservative accounting of companies to see whether such a relationship exists in Iran's market. This study aims to investigate the relationship between ownership structure and accounting conservatism of listed companies on the Tehran Stock Exchange. Research design, data, and methodology - All listed companies on the Tehran Stock Exchange, for which the required information financial statements (balance sheet, profit and loss account) could be acquired for the period 2007-2012, were studied. A total of 123 companies from various industries was selected. Results - In order to test the hypotheses, multi variate regression (inter procedure), with their meaningful t- and f-statistics, and a Durbin-Watson autocorrelation model were used. Conclusions - The research results show that the ownership of major shareholders and ownership concentration have a negative significant relationship with accounting conservatism. Therefore, as a significant negative relationship between concentration of ownership and accounting conservatism at the 95% confidence level was found, the second hypothesis was confirmed.

  • A one-upper warehouse n-lower retailer inventory model is discussed. The probability distribution of demand for a given perod is independent. The inventory holding cost is proportional to the number of unsold units and the cost of shortages is proportional to the number of shortages. In the event of a shortage, units are redistributed with a cost proportional to the number of units from the retailers which are a surplus at the end of the period. The optimum stock levels are obtained and the effects of redistribution are analized.

  • We provide a partial differential equation for European options on a stock whose price process follows a general geometric Riemannian Brownian motion. The existence and the uniqueness of solutions to the partial differential equation are investigated, and then an expression of the value for European options is obtained using the fundamental solution technique. Proper Riemannian metrics on the real number field can make the distribution of return rates of the stock induced by our model have the character of leptokurtosis and fat-tail; in addition, they can also explain option pricing bias and implied volatility smile (skew).
