Experimental and Numerical Study on the Air-assist Atomizer Spray Droplets (2유체 분무 액적의 거동에 관한 실험 및 수치 해석적 연구)

  • An experimental and numerical study of a spray flow is performed to investigate the spray characteristics using an air-assisted atomizer. A Partical Dynamic Analyzer(PDA) is used to measure SMD, dmp velocity, and drop number density whose the initial conditions have considerable effect on the numerical results. The measured experimental data have been used to asses the accuracy of model predictions. Numerical investigation is made with the Eulerian - Lagrangian formulism. Turbulent dispersion effects using a Monte-Carlo method, turbulent modulation effect and entrainment of air are also numerically simulated. Results show that the numerical predictions of SSF(Stochastic Separated Flow) analysis yielded reasonable agreement with the experimental data. However, the model calculations for small drops produced the inconsistent numerical results due to the effect of surrounding air entrainment.

  • Reactor dynamics were studied by reactor noise at TRIGA MARK Il reactor whose rated power is 250KW thermal. The power spectral densities(PSD) of the noise were measured by stochastic method with high resolution digital filters and Fast Fourier Transformers. The transfer function of the reactor at zero power was identical to the theoretical characteristics. When the power was increasec above 1KW, reactor showed its poswer resonances at 3Hz and 10 Hz. It was analyzed that 3Hz peak was generated by heat transfer and coolant flow effects and 10Hz peak by nuclear reaction effects.

  • Voltage sags are known as a serious problem causing mal-operation of equipment, process controllers and adjustable-speed drives. In this paper various analysis techniques for voltage sags will be presented, voltage sag characterization, equipment behaviour during voltage sag, stochastic assessment of voltage sags. And possible solution to voltage sag sensitivity problems are also described.

  • The recognition of PD(Partial Discharge) phenomenon is useful for classification of defects. The distribution of stochastic parameters which consisted of those PD pulses data and pulses train can show discriminable characteristics of PD sources. But it is not sufficient to discriminate among to PD sources. In this paper, we suggests that classification method of PD source by NN(Neural Networks) are good tools for differentiate of those. The learning scheme of NN is (Back Propagation learning algorithm(BP).

  • This paper presents a method of tolerance analysis for a electric machine. Tolerance analysis technique is required to find the tolerance band of design variables and estimate the characteristic distribution of the electric machine, because that manufacturing tolerances as well as measuring errors have a great influence on the electric machine. Therefore, this paper introduces Stochastic Response Surface Methodology to achieve the tolerance analysis. As an example, the tolerance analysis is applied to the analysis of torque characteristics for a BLDC motor from the electric point of view.

  • This paper proposes a hermite spline based D* algorithm for effective path planning of mobile robot to improve the detecting speed. In conventional path planning research, a robot is supposed to pass through predetermined centers of grid partitions of area. However it doesn't guarantee the optimal path during its navigation. In addition, a robot is hard to avoid obstacles effectively. The proposed algorithm in this paper makes use of stochastic characteristics of nonholonomic mobile robot and estimation of shortest path to curvature movement of the robot. The performance evaluation of the improved spline D* algorithm performed through simulation shows its effectiveness. Moreover, the experiment verifies that a robot can find the shortest path by building the curve paths while it is moving on the path in spline.

  • Unsteady behavior of the early wake in the viscous flow field past an impulsively started semicircular cylinder is studied numerically. In this paper, we propose the hybrid diffusion scheme to simulate dynamic characteristics of wake such as a fishtail-like flapping and an alternate vortex-shedding more accurately. This diffusion scheme based on particle strength exchange is mixed with the stochastic nature of random walk method. Also, the viscous splitting algorithm which calculates convective and diffusion terms successively is applied in order to handle random walk method effectively. Consequently, the early behavior of wake due to the breakdown of symmetrical vortici balance is more practically simulated with the vortex particle method.

  • In this study, the wind load characteristics for a transmission tower is investigated considering the effect of the transmission lines through stochastic analysis. The assemblage of the transmission line and insulator are modeled as a double pendulum system connected to the SDOF model of the tower It is observed that the background component of the overturing moment induced by the wind response of the transmission line has considerable portion in the total overturning moment. Based on this result, a rotational viscoelastic damper (VED) is proposed for the mitigation of the transmission line reactions, which act as wind load transferred to the tower. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, time history analysis is conducted for different wind velocities and VED damping constants. From the analysis, the proposed VED is proved to be effective for mitigation of the background component rather than the resonance component of the transmission line reaction.

Probabilistic Simulation for Extraction of Reliability Design Data (설계자료 추출을 위한 확률 시뮬레이션)

  • This paper deals with the effect of spatial distribution of material properties on its statistical characteristics and numerical estimation method of reliability of fatigue sensitive structures with respect to the fatigue crack growth. A method is proposed to determine experimentally the probability distribution functions of material parameters of Paris law. da/dN=C(ΔK/K sub(0) ) super(m), using stress intensity factor controlled fatigue tests. The result with a high tensile strength steel shows that the distribution of the parameter m is approximately normal and that of 1/C, is a 3-parameter Weibull. The main result obtained are : (1) The theoretical autocorrelation of the resistance, 1/C, to fatigue crack growth are almost same for different lengths. (2) The variance decreases with the increasing a averaging length. When spatial correlation length is very small. the variane decreases significantly were the averaging length. (3) The probability distribution of load cycles or the number for a crack to reach a certain length can be estimated using these functions by simulation of non-Gaussian(expecially Weibull) Stochastic Process.

On State Estimation Using Remotely Sensed Data and Ground Measurements -An Overview of Some Useful Tools-

  • An overview is given on stochastic techniques with which remotely sensed data may be used together with ground measurements for purposes of state estimation and prediction. They can explicitly account for spatiotemporal differences in measurement characteristics between ground measurements and remotely sensed data, and are suitable for highly variant space or space-time processes, such as atmosperic processes, which may be viewed as (containing) a random process. For state estimation of static ststems, optimal linear estimation is described. As alternatives, various co-kriging estimation techniques are also described, including simple, ordinary, universal, lognormal, disjunctive, indicator, and Bayesian extersion to simple and lognormal. For illustrative purposes, very simple examples of optimal linear estimation and simple co-kriging are given. For state estimation and prediction of dynamic system, distributed-parameter kalman filter is described. Issues concerning actual implemention are given, and with application potential are described.
