In this paper, we propose a method for taking into account uncertainties based on the projection on polynomial chaos. Due to the manufacturing and assembly errors, uncertainties in material and geometric properties, the system parameters including assembly defect, damping coefficients, bending stiffness and traction-compression stiffness are uncertain. The proposed method is used to determine the dynamic response of a one-stage spur gear system with uncertainty associated to gear system parameters. An analysis of the effect of these parameters on the one stage gear system dynamic behavior is then treated. The simulation results are obtained by the polynomial chaos method for dynamic analysis under uncertainty. The proposed method is an efficient probabilistic tool for uncertainty propagation. The polynomial chaos results are compared with Monte Carlo simulations.
In this paper the leakage prediction and rotordynamic analysis of an annular seal with a smooth rotor and circumferentially grooved stator are performed based on a three-controlvolume theory. The present analysis is validated by comparing with the experimental data of Iwatsubo and Sheng and theoretical results suggested by Marquette and Childs. For the leakage prediction the present analysis shows a good agreement with Marquette and Childs' result and a qualitation agreement with Iwatsubo and Shengs' experimental data. Direct and cross-coupled stiffness coefficients show closer agreement with the experimental values than those of Marquette and Childs. However, direct damping coefficient shows greater discrepancy from the experimental value than Marquette and Childs'.

In this study, a static and dynamic characteristics analysis system for machine tool spindle systems with 3 lobe sliding bearing is developed based on Timoshenko theory, finite element method and windows programming techniques. And the characteristics value of 3 lobe sliding bearing such as eccentricity ratio, attitude angle, friction coefficient , stiffness coefficients, damping coefficients and so on, are determined by using the thermal equilibrium conditions of spindle systems. Since the developed system has various analysis modules related to static deformation analysis, modal analysis, frequency responses analysis and so on, it can be utilized to perform systematically the design an devaluation process of spindle systems with 3 lobe sliding bearing under windows GUI environment.
The static and dynamic analysis of air lubricatied tilting pad journal bearing which considers tilting effect of each pad, preload but which neglects pad inertia effect and deflection are performed. A direct numerical method is used in evaluating the static characteristics such as load carrying capacity, friction force and small peturbation method is used for calculation of dynamic characteristics. Stiffness and damping coefficients are compared with the variation of the preload. And these coefficients are slightly decreased with increased compressibility number under the constant bearing load carrying capacity.
In this paper, we design a vibration control system that includes a 3-D.O.F. mass-spring-damper structure for the analytical model of a building that is excited at the base of this structure by an external dynamic force, and one Active Mass Damper(AMD) on the top of this structure to generate control forces fro attenuation of the structural response. Two robust controllers based on $\mu$-synthesis and H$\infty$ optimal control are designed for the structural system to show that the performance of a control system can be degraded by some parameter uncertainties such as mass, stiffness coefficients, and/or damping coefficients. The performance of the two controllers are compared in terms of nominal performance, robust stability and robust performance by simulations.

Air-Lubricated tilting pad journal bearing that has high stability is analyzed by using the direct method, and this bearing is usually used to need high precision. The pressure that supports the shaft is occured by the differences between the shaft and pads radii of curvatures. So the characteristics of load capacity for their variable values is important. In this paper the load capacity is compared with some of the eccentricity ratio values. The large load oapacity comes form large eccentricity ratio, high bearing number and high preload. But if the preload becomes too high, the shaft comes into contact with the pads. Stiffness and damping coefficients are compared with some of the preload, too. The coefficients decreased along compressibility number with constant load.
It has been resulted that Lagrange multiplier method with statistical approach was superior to traditional harmonic balance method in identifying the nonlinear loudspeaker parameters when output signals were contaminated with Gaussian random noise. We have known that the displacement-dependent characteristic values of nonlinear parameters identified by traditional harmonic balance method were estimated less than original values by the increase of output noise and the stiffness coefficients were very sensitive to output noise. Also, by the sensitivity analysis we have verified that the harmonic distortions in acoustic radiation was mainly due to nonlinearity of force factor caused by uneven magnetic fields and that reducing the nonlinearity of damping coefficients were very effective for improving second harmonic distrotion of acoustic radiation.
In this study, a wavelet-based covariance-driven system identification technique is proposed for damage assessment of structures under ambient excitation. Assuming the ambient excitation to be a white-noise process, the covariance computation is shown to be able to separate the effect of random excitation from the response measurement. Wavelet transform (WT) is then used to convert the covariance response in the time domain to the WT magnitude plot in the time-scale plane. The wavelet coefficients along the curves where energy concentrated are extracted and used to estimate the modal properties of the structure. These modal property estimations lead to the calculation of the stiffness matrix when either the spectral density of the random loading or the mass matrix is given. The predicted stiffness matrix hence provides a direct assessment on the possible location and severity of damage which results in stiffness alteration. To demonstrate the proposed wavelet-based damage assessment technique, a numerical example on a 3 degree-of-freedom (DOF) system and an experimental study on a three-story building model, which are all under a broad-band excitation, are presented. Both numerical and experimental results illustrate that the proposed technique can provide an accurate assessment on the damage location. It is however noted that the assessment of damage severity is not as accurate, which might be due to the errors associated with the mode shape estimations as well as the assumption of proportional damping adopted in the formulation.
In order to study the failure mode and seismic behavior of the interior-joint in steel traditional-style buildings, a single beam-column joint and a double beam-column joint were produced according to the relevant building criterion of ancient architectural buildings and the engineering instances, and the dynamic horizontal loading test was conducted by controlling the displacement of the column top and the peak acceleration of the actuator. The failure process of the specimens was observed, the bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation capacity, strength and stiffness degradation of the specimens were analyzed by the load-displacement hysteresis curve and backbone curve. The results show that the beam end plastic hinge area deformed obviously during the loading process, and tearing fracture of the base metal at top and bottom flange of beam occurred. The hysteresis curves of the specimens are both spindle-shaped and plump. The ultimate loads of the single beam-column joint and double beam-column joint are 48.65 kN and 70.60 kN respectively, and the equivalent viscous damping coefficients are more than 0.2 when destroyed, which shows the two specimens have great energy dissipation capacity. In addition, the stiffness, bearing capacity and energy dissipation capacity of the double beam-column joint are significantly better than that of the single beam-column joint. The ductility coefficients of the single beam-column joint and double beam-column joint are 1.81 and 1.92, respectively. The cracks grow fast when subjected to dynamic loading, and the strength and stiffness degradation is also degenerated quickly.
Ball bearings have been widely used for the spindle motor bearing in various kinds of information storage devices. Recently many researchers have been trying to replace ball bearings with fluid film bearings because of their superior NRRO(non-repeatable runout) characteristics. In this study, a numerical analysis has been conducted for the complicate bearing system composed of herringbone groove journal bearing and spiral groove thrust bearing for the spindle motor of the information storage device. At first, spindle motor bearing is modeled as journal bearing part and thrust bearing part separately, and then observed various influences of geometric parameters. Previous studies had considered only the translational motion of the journal bearing. However, this study takes the additional 2-degree of freedom rotation into consideration to attempt to describe the real motion of the spindle bearing. As a result, rotational stiffness coefficients and rotational damping coefficients are obtained. In addition, a spindle bearing system made up of four bearings is modeled and interpreted at once and coefficients of dynamic characteristics of each bearing are obtained. Finally, an eigen analysis of bearing system is made with these results. Through this analysis, it is possible to estimate an unstable condition of the system for given geometric parameters and to propose a method which is able to avoid the unstable condition by a proper adjustment of geometric parameters.
