A Study on The Rotor Position Detection of Bifilar-Wound Hybrid Stepping Motors (복권형 하이브리드 스테핑 전동기의 회전자 위치 검출에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, we show that the rotor position of the bifilar-wound hybrid stepping motors for the closed-loop drives is detected by the phase current measurement. We propose an instantaneous phase current equation, which is the function of electrical angle, by the modeling of the stepping motor including motor driving circuits. We also analyze the relationship between phase current and rotor position from the computer simulation results. It is shown that the information about the rotor position is obtained from the phase current amplitude and its derivatives at the instance of ${\pi}/2$ electrical angle of excitation voltage.

Torque ripple reduction of a closed-loop driven permanent magnet stepping motor by lead angle control (Lead angle 제어에 의한 폐루프 운전 영구자석형 스테핑 전동기의 토오크 리플 저감)

  • In this paper, we will show that the torque ripple in closed-loop drives of permanent magnet stepping motors is reduced as properly selected lead angle control method. We propose an instantaneous torque equation, which is the function of lead angle, to estimate the influence on torque ripple. We design a closed-loop lead angle control system based on the proposed instantaneous torque equation and measure the instantaneous torque in various excitation modes. It is shown that torque ripple is greatly reduced, as seen from the experimental results as well as from the computer simulation results. For example, torque ripple reduced from 78.25% to 46.82% in the case of 50 PPS single-phase excitation mode operation.

  • In this paper, the vibration characteristics of a 2-phase Hybrid type Linear Stepping Motor(HLSM) are analyzed using the ACSL. A magnetic equivalent circuit is based on the structure of the HLSM, and then the electric equivalent circuit of the HLSM is derived by solving equations for the magnetic equivalent circuit. A normal force is calculated using FEM(Flux2D). And the vibration characteristics of the HLSM are simulated by the ACSL with the voltage equations, the thrust equation, the normal force equation and the kinetic equation.

  • In this paper, it presents the design and implementation of a Microstep control IC using Programmable Logic Device(PLD). A Microstep driver is implemented with a 5-phase hybrid stepping motor, which has a Pentagon winding, power MOSFETs, and some devices to improve the system characteristics. The Microstep driving method is used for high performance motion control, low vibration and low noise in motor control system. The improvement of the electrical and mechanical driving characteristic of a step motor is achieved by applying microstep driver.

  • A cylindrical permanent magnet inside the four-phase permanent magnet (PM) stepping motor is employed as the rotor. The stator has four teeth around, which its coils are wound. The mode of excitation can be classified into 3 modes: single-phase excitation, two-phase excitation and ministep excitation. The ministep drive is a method to subdivide one step into several small steps by means of electronics. The paper presents the programmable ministep technique drive. This technique decodes the results obtained from the counter to locate the data in Read Only Memory (ROM). The Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) is transformed to binary file and saved to the ROM. The experiment is performed with the four-phase PM stepping motor and drives from a two-phase programmable sinusoidal ministep signal, instead of square wave. The results show that the performances of the proposed programmable ministep technique drive have high efficiency, smooth step motion, and high speed response. Moreover, the resolution of sinusoidal ministep signal can be controlled by the input frequency (f command).

  • In this paper, position and speed control algorithm of LSM (Linear Stepping Motor) using general-purpose PCI I/O board is discussed. The main purpose of this paper is to show that LSM controller can be established on the non real time operating system such as Microsoft Win2000 under the assumption that thread priority strategy is well designed. We can guarantee sampling interval less than 5msec based on the Pentium III microprocessor. Therefore this kind of LSM controller development environment makes shorten the prior research period needed to verify the validness of the proposed control strategy. We also introduce the tool of the real-time windows target system of matlab, which also makes shorten the prior research period. The main focus of this paper is on developing general purpose NT device driver which can drive the general purpose PCI board and applying it for implementing the hardware interface for 2- axis linear stepping motor control. From the experimental results show that the developed LSM controller guarantee 2 micrometer resolution in position control with 10cm/sec moving speed

  • In this paper, the vibration characteristics of a linear stepping motor(LSM) are analyzed using the ACSL. A magnetic equivalent circuit is based on the structure of the LSM, and then the electric equivalent circuit of the LSM is derived by solving equations for the magnetic equivalent circuit. A normal force is calculated using finite element method(FEM). And the vibration characteristics(continuous vibration) of the LSM are simulated by the ACSL(Advanced Continuous Simulation language) with the voltage equations, the thrust equation, the normal force equation and the kinetic equation.

  • This paper describes a control algorithm and test results of an automated manual transmission clutch actuated by a stepping motor. The control algorithm extracts driver's demand from CAN signals and decides the exact timing to engage or disengage the clutch based on the demand. A pulse signal is generated to drive the clutch and the travel of the clutch can be calculated by accumulating the pulse signal. An auto code generation method was introduced in implementing the control logic to the micro-processor of the prototype controller and a series of basic tests were carried out to validate its performance.
