This study presents a novel step-up switched capacitor multilevel inverter (SCMLI) structure. The proposed structure comprises 2 unequal DC voltage sources, 4 capacitors, and 14 unidirectional power switches. It can synthesize 21 output voltage levels. The important features of the proposed topology are its self-voltage boosting and inherent capacitor voltage balancing capabilities. Furthermore, a cascaded structure of the proposed SCMLI with an asymmetric DC voltage source configuration is presented. The proposed topology and its cascaded structure are compared with conventional and other recently developed topologies in terms of different aspects, such as the required components to produce a specific number of output voltage levels, the total standing voltage (TSV) and peak inverse voltage of the structure, and the maximum number of switches in the conducting path. Furthermore, a cost function is developed to verify the cost-effectiveness of the proposed topology with respect to other topologies. The TSV of the proposed topology is significantly lower than those of other topologies. Moreover, the developed topology is cost-effective compared with other topologies. A detailed operating principle, power loss analysis, and selection procedure for switched capacitors are presented for the proposed SCMLI structure. Extensive simulation and experimental studies of a 21-level inverter structure prove the effectiveness and merits of the proposed SCMLI.
In this study, we propose a small high voltage power supply which use a half-bridge ZCS resonant and Cockroft-Walton on circuit, for ESP (Electrostatic Precipitator). This power supply transfers energy from ZCS resonant inverter to step-up transformer and the transformer secondary is applied to the Cockroft-Walton circuit for generating high voltage as discharging source of electrodes. It is highly efficient because its amount of switching losses are reduced by virtue of the current resonant half-bridge inverter, and also due to the small size, low parasitic capacitance in the transformer stage owing to the low number of winding turns of the step up transformer secondary combined with the Cockroft-Walton circuit. From these results, the best operational condition is obtained at the switching frequency of 9 kHz and the duty ratio of 50 % in this ESP.
Isolated boost converter is desirable in the dc/dc converter applications where isolation is required and a large step up is needed. In this paper, it is proposed and analyzed the isolated boost converter which can step up low input voltage to high output voltage using transformer. Instead of using a conventional scheme, the proposed converter has the reset winding for volt-sec balance of transformer. Finally, the validity of the proposed isolated boost converter is verified by simulation.
A multi-parameter neuro muscular electrical simulator (NMES) system was developed to be used to find the optimal parameter condition in obtaining maximum muscle power and minimal fatigue. Since the performance of NMES is mainly determined by the characteristic of its output-stage circuit, we implemented 3 different circuits and compared output characteristics of them. Three amplifier circuits are; 1) a resonant switching converter, 2) a linear amplifier with a transformer, and 3) a step-up DC/DC converter with a high-voltage linear amplifier. Experimental results showed that the step up DC/DC converter with a high-voltage linear amplifier has the best performance.
This paper proposes the aggregated modeling and control of integated boost-flyback converter (IBFC) for understanding of dynamics characteristic and designing of relevant controller. The basic concept of the aggregated modeling is to substitute the boost or the flyback converter with an equivalent current source. Since each converter with equivalent current source corresponds to the basic boost and flyback converters, the overall mathematical process is significantly simplified for the modeling. Afterwards each result is combined to construct the complete model of the IBFC, and the relevant controller is designed through the achieved small-signal model. Simulation and experimental results show excellent agreement with the theoretical expectations.
An active resonance damper for a DC Distributed Power System(DPS) with parallel loads is presented. Each pulse power load in a DC DPS comprises both a resistive power load and a step-up converter. The step-up converter behave as constant power load(CPL) when tightly regulated and usually cause a negative impedance instability problem. Furthermore, when an input filter is connected to a large constant power load, the instability of DC bus voltage. In this paper, a bidirectional DC/DC converter with a reduced storage capacitor quantitatively are proposed as a active resonance damper, to mitigate the voltage instability on the bus. The validity of the proposed method was confirmed by simulation and experimental works.
Recently, a fuel cell is remarkable for new generation system. The fuel cell generation system converts the chemical energy of a fuel directly into electrical energy. The fuel cell generation is characterized by low voltage and high current. For connecting to utility, it needs both a step up converter and an inverter. The step up converter makes DC link and the inverter changes DC to AC. In this paper, full bridge converter and the single phase inverter are designed and installed for fuel cell. Simulation and experiment verify that fuel cell generation system could be applied for the distributed generation. In this paper, the 1.5kW active clamp current-fed full bridge converter employing MOSFETs is operated to discharge the battery whereas a voltage-fed half bridge converter employing IGBTs is operated to charge the battery.
A new type of piezoelectric transformer using radial vibration of disk, poled with the same direction is proposed. The piezoelectric ceramics was composed to PZT-PMN-PSN. The surface ratio of driving electrode and generating electrode of the piezoelectric transformer ranges from 1.4:1 to 3:1. As a experimental result, both resonance frequency and step-up voltage ratio increased with increasing load resistance. The step-up voltage ratio was reached more than 60 times under no load resistance. The maximum efficiency of 97.7% at load resistance of 2k${\Omega}$ was obtained.
Proposed about new inverter that can use in PV system in this paper. Multi_level inverter that used inverter makes use of 4 transformers is basis, primary winding of each transformer voltage as can do step_up or step_down to appropriate voltage space tap lake. Put circuit that tap that turn in transformer connects properly according to inhibit signal that sense change of input voltage (output voltage of solar cell place) and transformer secondary voltage controls point of contact of relay so that get into fixed output voltage. As a result, can minimise relative harmonic content despite change width of input voltage are wide because number of output voltage level of multi_level inverter does not decrease. Because proposed circuit manufactures is easy and control is easy and is no burden of cost price rise economically, commercialization expected to do easily and this study examined propriety of action as that compose and experiments proposed circuit.
In this study, in order to develop high power piezoelectric transformer, we compared the piezoelectric transformers dimension. The basic composition of piezoelectric ceramics is ternary $0.01Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.08Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.91Pb(Zr_{0.505}Ti_{0.495})O_3$. The voltage step up ratio of piezoelectric transformer showed the maximum value at the near of 81 kHz and increased according to the increase of load resistance.
