This paper proposes column-parallel three step Single Slope Analog-to-Digital Converter (SS-ADC) for high frame rate VGA CMOS Image Sensors (CISs). The proposed three step SS-ADC improves the sampling rate while maintaining the architecture of the conventional SS-ADC for high frame rate CIS. The sampling rate of the three-step ADC is increased by a factor of 39 compared with the conventional SS-ADC. The proposed three-step SS-ADC has a 12-bit resolution and 200 kS/s at 25 MHz clock frequency. The VGA CIS using three step SS-ADC has the maximum frame rate of 200 frames/s. The total power consumption is 76 mW with 3.3 V supply voltage without ramp generator buffer. A prototype chip was fabricated in a $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS process.
Anther cultivation for crop breeding is a method of rapid production of homozygosities by greatly reducing the time required for at least six generations to develop new varieties using conventional breeding methods. This technique of producing anther culture provides an opportunity to obtain more green plants from a methodological point of view, and the techniques that save time and effort in anther culture are also important because they increase the efficiency of culture. This study compared the callus induction rate and green plant regeneration rate of a one-step and a two-step culture that differ in their culture media and culture methods. One-step culture allows callus induction and plant regeneration in one medium, whereas two-step culture requires induction and plant regeneration in two different media. In this study, we compared the callus induction and plant regeneration rates of rice anthers as one-step and two-step cultures. The callus formation rate was 13.0% for one-step cultures and 8.6% for two-step cultures, so the rate was 4.4% higher for one-step cultures than for two-step cultures. The plant regeneration rate was 1.0% in one-step cultures and 3.0% in two-step cultures, so the regeneration rate was three times higher for the two-step cultures than for one-step cultures. This suggests that the two-step cultures are more efficient than the one-step cultures for haploid production.
The objective of this paper is to present a modified fractional step method of keeping a constant mass flow rate in spatially periodic flows, because original fractional step methods do not precisely keep the mass flow rate constant in time. In the modified method, the mean and fluctuating pseudo-pressure gradients are separately obtained at each time step. This method is successfully applied to channel and pipe flows and shown to be suitable for maintaining a constant mass flow rate in time.
Bio-oxidation is an effective technology for treatment of refractory gold concentrates. However, the unsatisfactory oxidation rate and long residence time, which cause a lower cyanide leaching rate and gold recovery, are key factors that restrict the application of traditional bio-oxidation technology. In this study, the oxidation rate of refractory gold concentrates and the adaption of microorganisms were analyzed to evaluate a newly developed two-step pretreatment process, which includes a high temperature chemical oxidation step and a subsequent bio-oxidation step. The oxidation rate and recovery rate of gold were improved significantly after the two-step process. The results showed that the highest oxidation rate of sulfide sulfur could reach to 99.01 % with an extreme thermophile microbial community when the pulp density was 5%. Accordingly, the recovery rate of gold was elevated to 92.51%. Meanwhile, the results revealed that moderate thermophiles performed better than acidophilic mesophiles and extreme thermophiles, whose oxidation rates declined drastically when the pulp density was increased to 10% and 15%. The oxidation rates of sulfide sulfur with moderate thermophiles were 93.94% and 65.73% when the pulp density was increased to 10% and 15%, respectively. All these results indicated that the two-step pretreatment increased the oxidation rate of refractory gold concentrates and is a potential technology to pretreat the refractory sample. Meanwhile, owing to the sensitivity of the microbial community under different pulp density levels, the optimization of microbial community in bio-oxidation is necessary in industry.

Information processing in variable and noisy environments is usually accomplished by means of adaptive filters. Among various adaptive algorithms, Least Mean Square (LMS) has become the most popular for its robustness, good tracking capabilities and simplicity, both in terms of computational load and easiness of implementation. In practical application of the LMS algorithm, the most important key parameter is the Step Size. As is well known, if the Step Size is large, the convergence rate of the algorithm will be rapid, but the steady state mean square error (MSE) will increase. On the other hand, if the Step Size is small, the steady state MSE will be small, but the convergence rate will be slow. Many researches have been proposed to alleviate this drawback by using a variable Step Size. In this paper, a new variable Step Size LMS(VSSLMS) called Categorized VSSLMS (CVSSLMS) is proposed. CVSSLMS updates the Step Size by categorizing the current status of the gradient, hence significantly improves the convergence rate. The performance of the proposed algorithm was verified from the view point of convergence rate, Excessive Mean Square Error(EMSE), and complexity through experiments.

Objective: This study was carried out to compare the effects of the stepwise exposure treatments on the morphological normality, fertilization and blastocyst formation rate of the frozen-thawed mouse mature oocytes by vitrification or ultra-rapid freezing and to use as a fundamental data for the cryopreservation of human oocytes. Materials and Methods: The morphological normality and fertilization rates of the vitrified and ultra-rapid frozen mouse mature oocytes after three-stepwise exposure treatments (1step, 3step and 5step) were observed. After choosing the 3step exposure treatment groups, we observed the morphological normality and fertilization, blastocyst formation rate of the vitrified and ultra-rapid frozen mouse mature oocytes. Results: The morphological normality and fertilization rates of the vitrified mouse mature oocytes after three-stepwise exposure treatments (1step, 3step and 5step) were 75%, 85%, 88% and 58%, 61 %, 54% respectively. There were no significant differences among treatments(p>0.05). The morphological normality and fertilization rate of the control was 92% and 65%. There were no significant differences in fertilization rate among control and treatments (p>0.05). The morphological normality and fertilization rates of the ultra-rapid frozen mouse mature oocytes after three-stepwise exposure treatments (1step, 3step and 5step) were 83%, 83%, 84% and 75%, 63%, 56% respectively. There were no significant differences among treatments (p>0.05). The morphological normality and fertilization rate of the control was 95% and 67%. There were no significant differences among control and treatments (p>0.05). The morphological normality and fertilization rate of the vitrified or ultra-rapid frozen mouse mature oocytes after 3step exposure treatment were 69% and 75%, respectively. The blastocyst formation rate was 60% and 57%. The results did not differ significantly between vitrification and ultra-rapid freezing (p>0.05). Conclusion: As known in the above results, there were no significant differences in the fertilization and blastocyst formation rate of the frozen-thawed mouse mature oocytes by vitrification or ultra-rapid freezing among the control and treatments. It is suggested that vitrification and ultra-rapid freezing method were effective for the cryopreservation of mouse mature oocytes.
The last step in the photocycle of photoactive yellow protein (PYP) is a spontaneous recovery of the dark state from the active state in which the p-coumaric acid chromophore is thermally isomerized, concomitantly with the deprotona- tion of the chtomophore and the refolding of the protein moicty. For the purpose of understanding the mechanism of the thermal back-isomerization, we have investigated the rate-determining step by analyzing mutant PYPs of Met100, which was previously shown to play a major role in facilitating the reaction (1). The mutation to Lys, Leu, Ala, or Glu decelerated the dark state recovery by 1 to 3 three orders of magnitude. By evaluating temperature-dependence and pH-dependence of the kinetics of the dark state recovery, it was found that the retardation by mutations resulted from elevation of the activation enthalpy ( H$\^$┿/) and that the pKa of the chromophore, which was affected by the mutation, is in a linier correlation with the amplitude of the rate constants. It was, therefore, deduced from the correlation that the free energy for crossing the activated state in the dark recovery process is proportional to the free energy for the deprotonation of the chromophore, identifying the rate-determining step as the deprotonation of the chromophore. At the case of peak threshold algorithm, 3-axes data should sample step data over 20 Hz to get sufficient accuracy. But most of the digital sensors like 3-axes accelerometer have very low sampling rate caused by low data communication speed on limited SPI or $I^2C$ bandwidth of the low-cost MPU for ubiquitous devices. If the data transfer rate of the 3-axes accelerometer is getting slow, the sampling rate also slows down and it finally degrades the data accuracy. In this study, we proved there is a distinct functional relation between the sampling rate and threshold on the peak threshold step detection algorithm under the 20Hz frequency, and made a threshold function through the experiments. As a result of experiments, when we apply threshold value from the threshold function instead of fixed threshold value, the step detection error rate can be lessen about 1.2% or under. Therefore, we can suggest a peak threshold based new step detection algorithm with threshold function and it can enhance the accuracy of step detection and step count. This algorithm not only can be applied on a digital step counter design, but also can be adopted any other low-cost ubiquitous sensor devices subjected on low sampling rate.
The reaction mechanism of Lead ions catalyzing complexation reactions between TIPP and metal ions was investigated by researching the kinetics of the formation of metalloporphyrins by UV/Vis-spectra, and verified by exploring the formation of metalloporphyrins catalyzed by acetic acid. Kinetics studies suggested that the fluctuations of reaction rate indicated the formation of metalloporphyrin was step-wise, including the pre-equilibrium step (the coordination of the pyrrolenine nitrogens to $Mn^+$) and the rate-controlling step (the deprotonation of the pyrrole proton). In the pre-equalization step, a sitting-atop (SAT) structure formed first with the complexation between larger radius of $Pb^{2+}$ and TIPP, changed the activation, then $Pb^{2+}$ left with the smaller radius of metal ions attacking from the back of the porphyrin ring center. In the rate-controlling step, two pyrrole protons dissociated to restore a stable structure. This was verified by adding acetic acid at different reaction times.
The present experiments were focussed to modify a short slow-cooling protocol used for freezing of early stage embryo(Testart et al., 1986) and also to apply the modified method for the cryopreservation of hamster oocytes with Zona or without. The protocol was modified by changing the 4-step equilibration into 1-step and the 1-step thawing into 2-step. The oocytes were added in 1.5M PROH and 0.1M Sucrose, seeded at $-7^{\circ}C$, slow cooled($0.3^{\circ}C$/min) to $-30^{\circ}C$ before plunging to $-196^{\circ}C$. The oocytes were thawed at $23-25^{\circ}C$ air(20sec/150sec) and/or 33-35 water(10sec). The survival of the frozen-thawed oocytes was determined by morphologic criteria and their fertilizing ability was also estimated by Sperm Penetration Assay(SPA) system(Chang et al, 1990) using fertile men semen sample. One-step equilibration showed slightly higher survival rate(83.9% vs. 71.0%) and fertilization rate(83.9% vs. 71.0%) compared with four-step(p>0.05). And two-step thawing(air & water exposing) of oocytes frozen after 1-step equilibration showed significantly higher survival rate(96.3%) than one-step thawing at air(85.2%) or water(65.0%) only(p<0.05). Therefore, by the modified method(l-step equilibration & 2-step thawing), Zona-intact(ZI) and Zona-free(ZF) oocytes were frozen and thawed. ZI-oocytes showed significantly higher survival rate(95.4%, 308/323 vs. 67.6%, 240/355) than ZF-oocytes(P<0.01). But the survival of ZF-oocytes was as high as ZI-oocytes in fourteen of twenty-four replicates. ZI-oocytes was also significantly higher fertilization rate($92.4{\pm}8.9%$ vs. $63.7{\pm}18.5%$) and higher mean number of penetrated sperm($6.2{\pm}4.2$ vs. $3.9{\\pm}3.3$) than ZF-oocytes, but not higher than control(fresh oocytes;$99.3{\pm}2.4%$, $8.4{\pm}4.2$)(P<0.001). Conclusively, this modified method will contribute to freeze effectively the hamster oocytes for simplifing of the logical consideration of performing SPA and also to freeze the human and other animal oocytes.
