  • The CNC machine toots has two kinds of fault. One is the fault due to degraded parts and the other is the fault due to operation disability. The phenomena of degradation is predictable but the operational fault is unpredictable because it occurred without any warning. The major faults of CNC machine tool are operational faults which are charged over 70%. This paper describes the model of remote service and the intelligent fault diagnosis system to diagnosis operational faults of CNC machine tools. To generalize fault diagnosis, two diagnosis models such as SF(Switching Function) and SSF(Step Switching Function) are proposed. The SF is static model and SSF is dynamic model for expression of fault. The SF and SSF model can be generated using SFG(Switching Function Generator) which is developed in this research. The three major operational faults such as emergency stop error, cycle start disability and machine ready disability are applied to experiment of fault modeling. To remote service of faults fur CNC machine tool, the web server and client system based internet are proposed as the suitable environment. The developed two technologies are implemented with the internal function of open architecture controller. The implemental results for two technologies are presented to validate the proposed scheme.

  • Based on the average method and the geometrical technique to calculate the average value, the average model of the open-loop step-up converter in CCM operation is established. The DC equilibrium point and corresponding small signal model is derived. The control-to-output transfer function is presented and analyzed. The theoretical analysis and PSIM simulations shows that the control-to-output transfer function includes not only the DC input voltage and the DC duty cycle, but also the two inductors, the two energy-transferring capacitors, the switching frequency and the load. Finally, the hardware circuit is designed, and the circuit experimental results are given to confirm the effectiveness of theoretical derivations and analysis.

  • In this study, a hierarchical switching control scheme based on robust control theory is proposed for tracking control of vehicle longitudinal acceleration in the presence of large uncertainties. A model set consisting of four multiplicative-uncertainty models is set up, and its corresponding controller set is designed by the LMI approach, which can ensures the robust performance of the closed loop system under arbitray switching. Based on the model set and the controller set, a switching index function by estimating the system gain of the uncertainties between the plant and the nominal model is designed to determine when and which controller should be switched into the closed loop. After theoretical analyses, experiments have also been carried out to validate the proposed control algorithm. The results show that the control system has good performance of robust stability and tracking ability in the presence of large uncertainties. The response time is smaller than 1.5s and the max tracking error is about $0.05\;m/S^2$ with the step input.

  • This study proposes a finite-state model predictive controller to regulate the load current and balance the DC-link capacitor voltages of a four-leg neutral-point-clamped converter. The discrete-time model of the converter, DC-link, inductive filter, and load is used to predict the future behavior of the load currents and the DC-link capacitor voltages for all possible switching states. The switching state that minimizes the cost function is selected and directly applied to the converter. The cost function is defined to minimize the error between the predicted load currents and their references, as well as to balance the DC-link capacitor voltages. Moreover, the current regulation performance is improved by using a two-step prediction horizon. The feasibility of the proposed predictive control scheme for different references and loads is verified through real-time implementation on the basis of dSPACEDS1103.

  • Vibration at the tip of various flexible manipulators may affect their operation accuracy and work efficiency. To suppress such vibrations, the feasibility of using MFC actuators and sensors is investigated in this paper. Considering the convergence of the famous filtered-x least mean square (FXLMS) algorithm could not be guaranteed while it is employed for vibration suppression of plants with varying secondary path, this paper proposes a new multiple model switching adaptive control algorithm to implement the real time active vibration suppression tests with a new multiple switching strategy. The new switching strategy is based on a cost function with reconstructed error signal and disturbance signal instead of the error signal from the error sensor. And from a robustness perspective, a new variable step-size sign algorithm (VSSA) based FXLMS algorithm is proposed to improve the convergence rate. A cantilever beam with varying tip mass is employed as flexible manipulator model. MFC layers are attached on both sides of it as sensors and actuators. A co-simulation platform was built using ADAMS and MATLAB to test the feasibility of the proposed algorithms. And an experimental platform was constructed to verify the effectiveness of MFC actuators and sensors and the real-time vibration control performance. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed FXLMS algorithm based multiple model adaptive control approach has good convergence performance under varying load conditions for the flexible cantilever beam, and the proposed FX-VSSA-LMS algorithm based multiple model adaptive control algorithm has the best vibration suppression performance.

  • Recently, the conventional controller of machine-tool has been increasingly replaced by the PC-based open architecture controller, which is independent of the CNC vendor and on which it is possible to implement user-defined application programs. This paper proposes CNCimplemented fault diagnosis and web-based remote services for machine-tool with open architecture CNC. The faults of CNC machine-tool are defined as the operational faults occupied by over $70{\%}$ of all faults. The operational faults are unpredictable as they occur without any warning. Two diagnostic models, the switching function and the step switching function, were proposed in order to diagnose faults efficiently. The faults were automatically diagnosed through the fault diagnosis system using the two diagnostic models. A suitable interface environment between CNC and developed application modules was constructed for the internal function of CNC. In addition, a suitable web environment was constructed for remote services. The web service functions, such as remote monitoring and remote control, were implemented, and their operability was tested through the web. The results obtained through this research could be a model of fault diagnosis and remote servicing for machine-tool with open architecture CNC.

  • This paper deals with direct torque control of an induction motor (IM) with constant switching frequency. The desired torque is obtained from the speed controller which is designed using the IP controller. Decoupling control of torque and flux is developed based on the energy model of IM using the IP controller strategies. The desired d-axis and q-axis stator voltage components are obtained from the designed controller, which decouples torque and flux. The constant switching frequency can be applied using space-vector pulse width modulation, since the desired stator voltage can be known from the decoupling torque and flux controllers. In order to achieve stable operation of the proposed IP controllers, the gains of the controllers are chosen by setting the poles in negative (left) half of s-plane and by choosing the rising time for the response of the step function. The proposed controller was verified in simulations using Matlab/Simulink and results have proven excellent performance. It was found that the proposed IP controllers can provide excellent performance to track the desired torque and speed and to reject the disturbance of load.

  • The conventional computerized numerical controller (CNC) of machine tools has been increasingly replaced by a PC-based open architecture CNC (OAC) which is independent of the CNC vendor. The OAC and machine tools with OAC led the convenient environment where it is possible to implement user-defined application programs efficiently within CNC. Tis paper proposes a method of operational fault cause diagnosis which is based on the status of programmable logic controller (PLC) in machine tools with OAC. The operational fault is defined as a disability state occurring during normal operation of machine tools. The faults are occupied by over 70% of all faults and are also unpredictable as most of them occur without any warning. Two diagnosis models, the switching function (SF) and the step switching function (SSF), are propose in order to diagnose the fault cause quickly and exactly. The cause of an occurring fault is logically diagnosed through a fault diagnosis system (FDS) using the diagnosis models. A suitable interface environment between CNC and develope application modules is constructed in order to implement the diagnostic functions in the CNC domain. The diagnosed results were displayed on a CNC monitor for machine operators and provided to a remote site through a web browser. The result of his research could be a model of the fault cause diagnosis and the remote monitoring for machine tools with OAC.
