석션압을 이용한 원형강관 가물막이 현장설치 실험 (Field Installation Test of the Circular Steel Cofferdam Using Suction Pressure)

  • 해상(또는 수상) 구조물 시공수요가 증가됨에 따라 해양구조물 시공을 용이하게 하는 임시구조물 수요가 증가하고 있다. 가물막이(cofferdam)는 임시구조물로 해상 작업 시 외부로부터 물을 막아 육상과 동일한 작업환경을 제공한다. 하지만, 물 유입을 차단하기 위한 별도의 시공공정이 필요하기 때문에 공사지연과 건설비 증가의 주원인이 되고 있다. 최근 재래식 가물막이의 문제점을 해결하고 경제성을 높이기 위해 석션압(suction pressure)을 이용해 신속하고 경제적으로 시공이 가능한 대구경 원형강관 가물막이 공법이 제안되었다. 본 공법은 원형강관 가물막이 상부가 수면위로 노출된 상태에서 석션압을 이용해 해저면에 관입되고, 시공 후 내부의 물을 외부로 배출하여 강관자체를 가물막이로 활용한다. 본 연구에서는 원형강관 가물막이 공법을 검증하기 위해 직경 5m인 원형강관 가물막이를 제작하고 새만금 지역에서 실증실험을 실시하였다. 실험 중 원형 강관에 작용하는 석션압, 연결부 누수유무, 수직도(경사도), 구조체의 변형을 각각 계측하였으며 실험결과를 분석하였다. 본 연구를 통해 석션압을 이용한 원형강관 가물막이 공법을 검증하였으며, 석션 설치공법이 다양한 해양 구조물 시공에 활용 될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Enhanced Corrosion Protection Performance by Novel Inhibitor-Loaded Hybrid Sol-Gel Coatings on Mild Steel in 3.5% NaCl Medium

  • The sol-gel methodology has been applied successfully in the synthesis of a novel hybrid coating based on dimethoxymethyl-n-octadecylsilane precursor. The newly synthesized parent coating was functionalized further with two commercially-available corrosion-inhibitive pigments Moly-$white^{(R)}$ 101-ED and Hfucophos $Zapp^{(R)}$, applied to mild steel panels, and immersed continuously in 3.5% NaCl electrolytic solution for 288 h. The corrosion protection performance of the prepared functional coatings was evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and DC polarization techniques. An enhancement in the barrier properties has been revealed from the electrochemical characterization data of the hybrid films, in comparison with untreated mild steel substrates following long-term immersion in 3.5% NaCl. The corrosion resistance properties of the newly developed coatings over mild steel substrates found to be largely dependent on the type of the loaded inhibitive pigment in which the Moly-white inhibitor has a positive impact on the corrosion protection performance of the parent coating, while an opposite behavior was observed upon mixing the base polymeric matrix with the commercially-available Zapp corrosion inhibitor.

콘크리트 교량 방호벽의 균열원인 및 패턴 분석에 대한 연구 (Study on Cracking Causes and Patterns in Median Barrier and Guardrail Concrete in RC Bridge)

  • 콘크리트 방호벽 및 중앙분리대는 교량의 부속시설이지만, 슬립폼 시공과 넓은 비표면적으로 인해 초기재령 균열이 발생하기 쉽다. 본 연구에서는 대형 교량의 방호벽과 중앙분리대 콘크리트의 외관조사 및 비파괴실험을 수행하여 균열의 원인과 발생 균열의 패턴을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 시공기간을 고려하여, 건조수축, 수화열 해석이 수행되었으며, 현장의 환경조건을 고려하여 소성수축 특성을 평가하였다. 평가결과 대상구조물의 균열 원인은 철근위치에 따른 소성침하균열, 소성수축 및 건조수축에 의한 복부균열, 재료분리에 따른 상부균열로 추정할 수 있었다. 또한 균열원인과 발생 패턴을 도식화하였으며, 시공 및 재료분야에서 균열제어대책을 제안하였다. 해상위 교량에 설치하는 중앙분리대 및 방호벽 콘크리트는 환경조건 (풍속, 온도, 습도)에 매우 민감하여 초기재령균열이 쉽게 발생하므로 재료선택 및 시공방법에 신중을 기해야 한다.

점토지반에 이중벽체가 적용된 해상폐기물매립장의 적정 차수 기준 (Proper Regulation of the Cutoff System in Offshore Landfill Built on Clay Ground with Double Walls)

  • 이 연구는 오염원 유출을 방지하기 위한 해상폐기물매립장 차수시스템에 요구되는 적절한 기준을 제안하기 위해 수행되었다. 차수시스템은 바닥층과 연직벽으로 구성된다. 바닥층은 불투수 점토층으로 연직벽은 이중벽체로 외곽벽체는 강관쉬트파일로 외력에 대한 저항을 담당하고 연직내부벽체가 차수를 담당하는 것으로 가정하였다. SEEP/W와 CTRAN/W 프로그램을 이용하여 침투-이류-분산 해석을 정상류 및 비정상류 조건에서 실시하였다. 해석결과, 정상류 조건에서 비정상류 조건 보다 오염원 이동이 크게 나타나 설계관점에서 차수기준은 정상류조건에서 산정된 값을 적용하는 것이 타당한 것으로 나타났다. 바닥층의 점토지반이 균질하고 연직차수시스템의 시공에 문제가 없다는 전제하에 정상류조건에서 오염원 이동의 차수에 요구되는 점토층 및 연직차수벽의 투수계수, 두께, 근입깊이 등이 제안되었다.

중형 트럭의 정면 충돌 특성해석을 위한 유한요소 모델의 개발 (Development of a Finite Element Model for Frontal Crash Analysis of a Mid-Size Truck)

  • This paper develops a finite element model for studying the crashworthiness analysis of a mid-size truck. A simulation for a truck frontal crash to a rigid barrier using the model is performed with PAM-CRASH installed in super computer SP2. Full vehicle model is composed of 86467 shell elements, 165 beam elements and 98 bar elements, and 86769 nodes. The model uses four material model such as elastic, elastic-plastic(steel), rigid and elastic-plastic(rubber) material model which are in PAM-CRASH. Frame and suspension system are modeled with 28774 shell elements and 31412 nodes. Cab is modeled with 34680 shell elements and 57 beam elements, and 36254 nodes. Bumper is modeled with 2262 shell elements, and 2508 nodes. Axle, steering shaft, etc are modeled using beam or bar elements. Mounting parts are modeled using rigid bodies. Bodies are interconnected using nodal constrains or joint options. To verify the developed model, frontal crash test with 30mph velocity to a rigid barrier is carried out. In the crash test, vehicle pulse at lower part of b-pillar is measured, and deformed shapes of frame and driver seat area are photographed. Those measured vehicle pulse and photographed pictures are compared those from the simulation to verify the developed finite element model.

The influence of air gaps on buffer temperature within an engineered barrier system

  • High-level radioactive waste produced by nuclear power plants are disposed subterraneously utilizing an engineered barrier system (EBS). A gap inevitably exists between the disposal canisters and buffer materials, which may have a negative effect on the thermal transfer and water-blocking efficiency of the system. As few previous experimental works have quantified this effect, this study aimed to create an experimental model for investigating differences in the temperature changes of bentonite buffer in the presence and absence of air gaps between it and a surrounding stainless steel cell. Three test scenarios comprised an empty cell and cells partially or completely filled with bentonite. The temperature was measured inside the buffers and on the inner surface of their surrounding cells, which were artificially heated. The time required for the entire system to reach 100℃ was approximately 40% faster with no gap between the inner cell surface and the bentonite. This suggests that rock-buffer spaces should be filled in practice to ensure the rapid dissipation of heat from the buffer materials to their surroundings. However, it can be advantageous to retain buffer-canister gaps to lower the peak buffer temperature.

  • Several plasma spray and metallurgical surface coatings such as $Al_2O_3$, $Cr_2O_3$, WC-Ni, and chromizing coating have been examined for their application in environments with high temperature, wear, and corrosion. The chromizing coating is different from others coatings in the manufacturing process the surface. These coatings' characteristics were tested experimentally, and the results were compared. WC-Ni shows good performance against thermal barrier, wear, and corrosion and is one of the best candidates for the environment considered herein. These coatings were studied for their application in the steel manufacturing industry. The most commonly required functions in this industry are thermal and wear resistance.

  • In general steel sheet piles are used in the containment system, which are vertical barrier systems for waste disposal and landfill purposes, and roads in excavation for temporary structure. This paper presents case study of the use of an interlocking sheet pile for water and containment. Cut-off Z-type sheet pile joints are investigated to determine their permeability from the field test. Four different joint sealing materials are used in field test. The results showed joint permeability is significant time-dependent and joint-dependent. These are explored and conclusions on permeability characteristics of different sealants are noted. A case study gives a design example as well as suggestion on permeability and water tightness can be implemented in using the sheet pile barrier in civil and environment works. From the test results, the effective sealing programs of sheet pile interlocks are suggested.

플라즈마 용해법에 의한 ZrO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$ 피복층의 가열처리효과 (The heat treatment characteristics of plasma sprayed ZrO$_2$-Y$_2$O$_3$ coatings)

  • The plasma spray process was used to deposit coatings of $ZrO_2$-8wt%Y2O3 powders on mild steel sub-strate, and the characteristics of as-deposited and heat treated coatings have been investigated. Particulary, the variations of porosity, wear resistance, thermal barrier and thermal shock resistance in $ZrO_2$-8wt% $Y_2O_3$coatings after heat treatment under vacuum circumstance have been investigated. The porosity of the coating layer was increased with increased spray distance. In the case of the arc current of 450A and at the spray distance of 50mm, it was obtained the lowest amount of porosity. After heat treatment, the amount of porosity was found to be decreased, and the wear resistance, microhardness and thermal shock resistance were im-proved. However, the thermal barrier was decreased.

선박 및 해양구조물용 극저온 재료의 기계적 거동 특성 (A Comparative Study on Mechanical Behavior of Low Temperature Application Materials for Ships and Offshore Structures)

  • Austenite stainless steel(ASS), aluminum alloy and nickel steel alloy are the most widely used in many cryogenic applications due to superior mechanical properties at low temperature. The Face-Centered Cubic(FCC) and Hexagonal Close-Packed(HCP) materials are used for the primary and secondary insulation barrier of Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) carrier tank and various kinds of LNG applications currently. In this study, tensile tests of ASS, aluminum alloy and nickel steel alloy were carried out for the acquisition of quantitative mechanical properties under the cryogenic environment. The range of thermal condition was room temperature to $-163^{\circ}C$ and strain rate range was 0.00016/s to 0.01/s considering the dependencies of temperatures and strain rates. The comprehensive test data were analyzed in terms of the characteristics of mechanical behavior for the development of constitutive equation and its application.
