The steam generator tubes of power plant damaged by sliding wear due to flow-induced motion of foreign object. Amount of wear have been predicted by Achard's wear equation until now. However, there are large error and low reliability, because this equation regards wear coefficient(k) as constant. The sliding wears tests have been performed at room temperature to examine parameters of wear (wear distance, contact stress). The steam generator tube material for wear test is used Inconel 600 and foreign object material is used 304 austenite stainless steel. The sliding wear tests show that the amount of wear is not linearly proportional to the wear distance(for 374 austenite stainless steel). According to experimental result, wear coefficient is not constant k but function k(s) of wear distance. The newly modified wear predictive equation V=k(s)F have small error and high reliability.
Recently, the increasing need for internet and the activation of hiring business of communication line makes the demand for OPGW cable which can construct the optical communication network in the basis of existing overhead power transmission line. Especially, the demand is focused on the high fiber count OPGW due to high capacity transmission. In step with the trend toward high fiber count cable we have developed the Stainless Steel Loose Tube type OPGW within which have 144core firstly in KOREA. This paper describes the cable design and manufacturing process which gives the stable operation in very severe conditions and the long-term reliability test results conducted in according to dominant specification IEEE Std. 1138-1194.
The damping effect of a Concrete-filled Rectangular Steel Tube (CRST) frame structure is studied in this paper. Viscous dampers are employed to insure the function of the building especially subjected to earthquakes, for some of the main vertical elements of the building are not continuous. The shaking table test of a 1:15 scale model was conducted under different earthquake excitations to recognize the seismic behavior of this building. And the vibration damping effect was also investigated by the shaking table test and the simulation analysis. The nonlinear time-history analysis of the shaking table test model was carried out by the finite element analysis program CANNY. The simulation model was constructed in accordance with the tested one and was analyzed under the same loading condition and the simulation effect was then validated by the tested results. Further more, the simulation analysis of the prototype structure was carried out by the same procedure. Both the simulated and tested results indicate that there are no obvious weak stories on the damping equipped structure, and the dampers can provide the probability of an irregular CRST frame structure to meet the requirements of the design code on energy dissipation and deformation limitation.
In this study, the cooling performance of a C/C composite material structure with metallic cooling tubes fixed by elastic force without chemical bonding was evaluated experimentally using combustion gas in a rocket combustor. The C/C composite chamber was covered by a stainless steel outer shell to maintain its airtightness. Gaseous hydrogen as a fuel and gaseous oxygen as an oxidizer were used for the heating test. The surface of these C/C composites was maintained below 1500 K when the combustion gas temperature was about 2900 K and heat flux to the combustion chamber wall was about 9 $MW/m^2$. No thermal damage was observed on the stainless steel tubes which were in contact with the C/C composite materials. Results of the heating test showed that such a metallic-tube-cooled C/C composite structure is able to control the surface temperature as a cooling structure(also as a heat exchanger), as well as indicating the possibility of reducing the amount of the coolant even if the thermal load to the engine is high. Thus, application of the metallic-tube-cooled C/C composite structure to reusable engines such as a rocket-ramjet combined cycle engine is expected.
The concrete inside the steel tube of CFT columns enables them to have great strength and ductility. CFT columns are also excellent in fire-resistance because explosive heat upon a fire can be contained in the tube by the concrete debris. However, the studies to evaluate the residual strength of CFT columns after a fire have not been conducted enough. The studies to evaluate the residual strength of CFT columns after a fire are indispensable because it is the barometer of the damage of composite columns caused by a fire and the degree of repair and reinforcement work for the columns after a fire. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the deterioration of load capacity and structural behavior of square CFT columns with the same shapes and boundary conditions before and after a fire. The study also evaluates the influential factors of the CFT columns reinforced to secure the residual strength after a fire.
The hot press farming process, which is the press hardening of steel parts using cold dies, can utilize both ease of shaping and high strength due to the hardening effect of rapid quenching during the pressing. In this study, a thermo-elastoplastic analysis of the hot press forming process using the finite element method was performed in order to investigate the deformation behavior and temperature history during the process and the mechanical properties of the pressed parts.
This paper summarizes the results of push-out test specimens with a new type of shear connector called ㄱ type perfobond rib. This connector is a flat steel plate with a number of holes punched through and strengthen rib's head part. According to experiment result, ㄱ type perfobond rib shear connector appeared that resistance force is increased than stud shear connector by $108\%$ and perfobond rib shear connector by $26\%$. The results obtained indicate that the perfobond rib connector is a viable alternative to the headed studs. An appreciable improvement in the shear capacity of the connection was observed when additional reinforcing bars were passed through the perfobond rib holes. For composite beams with concrete filled steel tubes, ㄱ type perfobond shear connectors exhibit adequate ductility and substantially higher capacities.
The objective of this paper is to develop a simplified method that could predict the strength of concrete filled steel tube (CFT) columns applicable to high strength material under combined axial compression and flexure. The simplified method for determining the strength of CFT columns is based on the interaction curve of the section approached by a polygonal connection of the points. These points are determined by using symmetrical properties of the CFT section. For each point, a simple equation is proposed to determine the strength of the slender columns under compression and flexure. The simple equation was adjusted with results of elasto-plastic analysis results. Validation of the simplified method is undertaken by comparison with data from the test conducted at Kyushu University. These results confirm the fact that the simplified method could accurately and reliably predict the strength of CFT columns under combined axial compression and flexure.
