펄스 도금법을 이용한 STS 316L 스테인리스강 상의 저온 염욕 알루미늄 코팅에 관한 연구 (Study of the Al-coating on the STS 316L Stainless Steel by Pulse Plating in the Molten Salts at Room Temperature)

  • Electroplating methods by molten salts and non-aqueous melts were employed for aluminium coating on STS 316L stainless steel. After coated with Ni or non-coated surface on stainless steel, Al pulse plating was carried out in two different types of electrolytes at room temperature. The Al layer from $AlCl_3$-TMPAC melts could not obtain appreciable thickness for engineering application due to chemical reactions between deposits and moisture of air. However, The Al coating by pulse plating in the Ethylbenzene-Toluene-$AlBr_3$ systems was found to be solid coating layer with a few $\mu\textrm{m}$ scale. The conductivity of Ethylbenzene-Toluene-$AlBr_3$ electrolyte was as functions of time and agitation. By seven days exposure after mixing of the electrolyte, Al-deposited layer shows uniform and near by pore-free with high current density (higher than 30mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$). The roughness and imperfection of coating layer were decreased with a increasing agitation speed. It was found that the optimum condition for the Al pulse plating on the 316L stainless steel was a 400mA peak current, duty cycle, $t_{on}$ $t_{ off}$=3ms/1ms, and a current density of 30mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

용융아연 도금층의 응고에 미치는 콜로이달 실리카의 영향 (Effect of Colloidal Silica on the Solidification of Galvanized Coatings)

  • It was found that colloidal silica sprayed to the galvanized steel sheet apparently made the molten zinc layer solidified to be the randomly oriented fine grains. Its spraying effect was also little affected by steel temperature that had been considered as one of the major operating factors in this process. From the results of surface analysis, it is considered that aluminum dissolved in coating layer reduces silica to silicon by the oxidation-reduction reaction, and that the reduced silicon acts as a more effective nucleus in solidification reaction than phosphate salt, siica and alumina.

  • Diamoncl/Mo/Ni multi-layers on SKH-51 steel substrate was prepared to improve the abrasive wear resistance of a tool and die by a commercial chemical vapor deposition unit and electro-plating. The diamond after 7 hour deposition had cuba-octahedral structure with 2~5$\mu\textrm{m}$ grains. The existence of non-ferrous metals such as chromium, nickel and molybdenum between diamond and SKH-51 substrate results in forming higher quality of diamond layer by retarding carbon diffusion in the diamond layer during deposition, and also improving hardness and wear resistance. Surface cracks on the film was sometimes observed by the difference of by the thermal expansion coefficients between the steel substrate and the deposited layers during cooling.

용융 알루미늄 합금에 의한 다이캐스팅용 금형강의 용손거동 (Wear Behavior of Die Steel in Molten Aluminum Alloy)

  • Wear test on two die steels for aluminum die casting was carried out by dipping and rotating the specimens into the molten aluminum maintained $680^{\circ}C{\sim}780^{\circ}C$. The rotating speed of the specimen was $4.5rpm{\sim}20.0rpm$. Diffusion layer was formed between the die steel and molten aluminum, and became thicker with dipping time. Wear rate was not proportional with the thickness of the diffusion layer, but was closely related to the density of the diffusion layer. Wear rate was little affected by the kind of die steel and by the microstructure such as martensite, tempered martensite, and pearlite. Specimen with nitrided surface showed good wear resistance, and its wear rate was decreased with increase in the thickness of nitrided layer. While whole surface was worn in heat treated specimens, wear of nitrided specimens was proceeded by pitting partially.

가스용사에 의한 Ni-Cr 기 자용성합금 용사 의 특성에 미치는 용사조건의 영향 (Effect of Spraying Conditions in Flame Spraying of Ni-Cr Base Self Fluxing Alloy on Mild Steel)

  • It has between investigated that the optimum spaying conditions, such as, spraying distance, fusing temperature and fusing time, ect, in a Ni-cr base self fluxing alloy sprayed on the mild steel substrate by oxygen-acetylenc flame spraying. Sprayed specimens on various conditions were fuused in a vacuum furnace and the results were as follows. The optimum spraying condition for excellent coating layer are obtained under spraying distances, fusing temperature and fusing and time ; 180~240mm,1050~110$0^{\circ}C$and 15~30min, respectively. The adhesive strength and surface hurface hardness of the as sprayed specimens were very low by mechanical bonding becaus of the diffusion layer during process. The carbides and borides and formed in the sprayed coating layer and densification of the layer was resulted from the elimination of pores and oxides. The hardness of sprayed coating layer, particularly in the high temperature, was superior to ordinary tool steels.

  • In this study, the effects of oxide layer formed on the contact parts of TiN coated ball and steel disk in sliding are investigated. Also wear mechanism to form the oxide layer and the characteristics of the oxide layer formation are investigated. AIS152100 steel ball is used for the substrate of coated ball specimens. Two types of coated ball specimens were prepared by depositing TiN coating with 1 and 4um in coating thickness. AISI1045 steel is used for the disk type counter-body. To investigate the effect of oxide layer on the contact parts of the two materials, the tests were performed both in ambient for forming oxide layer on the contact parts and in nitride environment to avoid oxidation. And to study the effects of surface roughness of counter-body, TiN coating thickness and contact load of sliding test on the characteristics of oxide layer formation on counter-body, various tests were carried out. From the results, the friction characteristics between the two materials was predominated by iron oxide layer that formed on wear track on counter-body and this layer caused the high friction. And the formation rate of the oxide layer on wear track increased as the real contact area between the two materials increased as the contact load increased, the TiN coating thickness decreased and the surface of counter-body smoothened.

  • 탈지과정을 거친 냉연 강판을 순수로 세정하는 과정에서 발생하는 rust와 이러한 rust 발생을 방지하기 위하여 0.05%(wt) $Na_5P_3O_{10}$ 용액으로 표면처리한 냉연 강판의 표면은 X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS) 방법으로 비교 분석하였다. Rust가 발생한 냉연 강판의 표면은 $Fe_2O_3$ 및 FeO, 그리고 $Fe(OH)_3$등으로 구성되는 산화층이 $1500{\AA}$정도의 두께로 존재함을 알 수 있었고, 한편 $Na_5P_3O_{10}$ 용액으로 표면처리한 냉연 강판의 표면은 $60{\AA}$정도의 인산염 피막이 얇은 Fe 산화층 위에 존재함으로써 보호 피막의 역할을 한다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Hertzian 접촉하중시 TiN/Steel의 표면균열에 대한 모드 I과 모드 II 응력확대계수 (Mode I and Mode II Stress Intensity Factors for a Surface Cracked in TiN/Steel Under Hertzian Rolling Contact)

  • The two dimensional problem of a layered tribological system(TiN/Steel) containing a vertical surface breaking crack and subject to rolling contact is considered in this study. Using finite elements and stress extrapolation method, a series of preliminary models are developed. Preliminary results indicate that the extrapolation technique is valid to determine Modes I and II stress intensity factors for cracks. In the case of TiN/Steel medium, KI and KII were determined for variations in crack length, layer thickness, and load location. The results show that KII reaches maximum values when the contact is adjacent to the crack where Mode I stresses are compressive. KII values decrease with decreased crack length and significantly decrease for reduced layer thickness.

전기아연도금강판의 열확산 거동 (Thermal diffusion behaviors of electrogalvanized steel sheets)

  • The electroplated steel sheets were heated during the short periods(10~60 seconds) at high temperature ($360^{\circ}C$$500^{\circ}C$) in order to investigate thermal diffusion behaviors. When the steel sheets were heated for 10 seconds, all the coated layers were alloyed at $420^{\circ}C$ but at temperature lower than $400^{\circ}C$ the $\eta$ phase partially remained on the coated surface. At higher temperature, the longer the time for heat treatment the iron contents were increased in coated layer but the glossiness and whiteness of the coated surface were decreased. While the alloying phases of $\eta$, $\zeta$, $\delta_1$ and $\Gamma$ were appeared in the coated layer at the heat treatment temperature of $360^{\circ}C$, the phase was disappeared at $420^{\circ}C$ but the rests grew in size at the temperature of $440^{\circ}C$. When the heat treatment temperature and heating time were increased, the thickness of $\Gamma$ phase was rapidly increased to 0.8 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The optimum conditions for the heat treatment to prevent powdering of coated layer were obtained to heat it for 30 seconds at $400^{\circ}C$ and 10 seconds at $440^{\circ}C$, and the iron content in coated layer was suited to be 10 percents.

해수 내 아크 아연 용사코팅 층의 전기화학적 특성 (Electrochemical Characteristics of Arc Zn Thermal Spray Coating Layer in Sea Water)

  • In this paper, arc Zn thermal spray coating was carried out on the SS400 steel, and then various electrochemical characteristics and surface damage behavior of Zn thermal spray coating layer were analyzed. As the results, the potential of Zn thermal spray coating layer presented driving voltage above 300 mV compare to that of SS400 steel. The passivity characteristic in anodic polarization curve was not presented. It was adequate to as sacrificial anode material. In the surface damage after galvanostatic experiments, uniform corrosion tendency of Zn thermal spray coating layer was clearly observed with acceleration of the dissolution reaction. In conclusion, Zn thermal spray coating could be determined to represent the corrosion protection effect by stable sacrificial anodic cathodic protection method in seawater because it had sufficient driving voltage and uniform corrosion damage tendency for the SS400 steel.
