  • In this paper, joints of Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy to STS316L were performed by friction welding method. Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy is attractive candidate as nuclear power plant material and exibit the best combination of high sts good electrical and thermal conductivity of any copper alloy examined. The stainless steel is a structural material who alloy acts as a heat sink material for the surface heat flux in the first wall. So, in this paper, not only the develop optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicabililty but also the development of in-process rear quility(such as strength and toughness) evaluation technique by acoustic emission for friction welding of such nuclear component of Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy to STS316L steel were performed.

  • Miniaturized specimen technology is useful to characterize the mechanical behavior using a minimum volume of material, because it is almost impossible to sample the conventional specimen for the fracture toughness test without damage to equipment. Test material was 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel which was widely used for turbine rotor material. Two kinds of miniaturized impact specimens were prepared, i.e., miniaturized specimen with side groove and without side groove. The correlation between ductile brittle transition temperature(DBTT) of full size impact specimen and that of miniaturized impact specimen was made. The characteristics of miniaturized impact specimens technique as well as fracture stress were discussed. Finally, we concluded that the characteristics of fracture stress change on aging time were similar to that of DBTT.

  • It is advantageous to use NDE methods to assess the mechanical properties of materials since the conventional method is time-consuming and sometimes requires cutting of sample from the component. The NDE parameters such as ultrasonic velocity and attenuation, electric resistivity, and magnetic coercive force and remanance have been utilized to evaluate changes of material properties due to heat treatment condition. It has been found that changes of materials properties under quenched and tempered/PWHT treatments could not be detected using EMAT and Electrical resistivity methods. However, victors hardness and magnetic hysteresis loop decreased with heat treatment procedures. These results were obtained using 3Cr-lMo-0.25V steel. The magnetic parameters were found to be most sensitive to changes of material properties.

  • In the hot press forming process (HPF), a martensitic structure is obtained by controlling the cooling rate when cooling a boron sheet that is heated up to over $900^{\circ}C$. The HPF process has various advantages such as the improvement in formability and material properties and minimal spring back of the deformed materials. The factors related to the cooling rate depend on the heat transfer characteristics between heated materials and dies. Therefore, in this study, the cooling rate is controlled by adjusting the heat transfer coefficient of the material at the pressing process. And, the mechanical properties and microstructure of the deformed material is demonstrated during the HPF process where cold dies are used to form the heated steel plate. This is achieved by varying the major forming conditions that control the cooling rate regarded as the most important process parameter.

  • Stainless steel used widely in various fields of industry have the characteristics of difficulty-to-cut. This difficulty comes from its peculiarity, for example work hardening, vibration, etc. And these peculiarity on the cutting process have an effect on tool wear or life shortness of tools. To solve these problems several method have been developed. Hot-machining is one way of these method. when a material is heated, organization of material is soften. So cutting process becomes easy. When such a hot-machining method applies on drilling process and then heated material is processed, cutting force is less than usual drilling process cutting force. In this paper, cutting force is compared heated SUS 304 with usual SUS 304. And shape of chips is also compared.

  • In this study, nonlinear analyses of prestressed concrete(PSC) test beams for inservice inspection of prestressed concrete containments for CANDU nuclear power plants are presented. In the analysis the material nonlinearities of concrete, rebar and prestressing steel are used. To reduce the numerical instability with respect to the used finite element mesh size, the tension stiffening effect has been considered. For concrete, the tensile stress-strain relationship derived from tests is modified and the stress-strain curve of rebar is assumed as a simple bilinear model. The stress-strain curve of prestressing steel is applied as a multilineal curve with the first straight line up to 0.8fpu. To prove the validity of the applied material models, the behavior and strength of the PSC test specimens tested to failure have been evaluated. A reasonable agreement between the experimental results and the predictions is obtained. Parametric studies on the tension stiffening effects, the impact of prestressing losses with time, and the compressive strength of concrete have been conducted.

  • Electrolytic polishing is the anodic dissolution process in the transpassive state. It removes non-metallic inclusions and improves mechanical and corrosion resistance of stainless steel. Electrolytic polishing is normally used to remove a very thin layer of material from the surface of a metal object. An electrolyte of phosphoric acid 50% in vol., sulfuric acid 20% in vol. and distilled water 30% in vol. has been used in this study. In the low current density region, there can be found plateau region and material removal process and leveling process occur successively. In this study, an electrochemical polishing process using pulse current is adopted as a new electrochemical polishing process. In electrochemical machining processes, it has been found that pulse electrochemical processes provide an attractive alternative to the electrochemical processes using continuous current. Hence, this study will discuss the electrochemical polishing processes in low current density region and pulse electrochemical polishing.

  • Thermal deformation behavior has been investigated for unsymmetric laminates composed of various kinds of material layers, such as stainless steel, aluminum, carbon/epoxy or glass/epoxy. The thermal deformations of unsymmetric laminates were predicted using the classical lamination theory and compared with those obtained from experimental measurement. In the case of unsymmetric laminate composed of stainless steel and aluminum layer, the experimental results were agreed well with the values predicted. But in the case of unsymmetric laminate composed of fiber composite layers, there was a considerable difference of thermal deformation between the prediction and experimental measurement, which may be from the change of material properties of fiber composite layers for temperature variation.

  • In a manufacturing technique of the sintered filter, pressureless sintering method has good permeability, it is not need the binder and lubricant used on compacting process, so it has little contamination and it is easy to control the pore size and shape but the mechanical strength is low relatively and it is difficult that parts of complicate form are manufactured. In the case of manufacturing the filter by press and sintering method, in order to be satisfactory characteristic of un-pressed filter, in this study sintered metal filter fabricated by using 30-40mesh stainless steel 316L powder and additive agents. Porosity and structure of pores, permeability and mechanical strength of the sintered filter were investigated with the variation sintering conditions. Porosity was nearly constant about $60{\sim}70%$, density, permeability and mechanical strength were changed markedly with quantity of additive materials and sintering conditions.

  • Centrifugally Cast Stainless Steel generally shows similar structure to the weld in austenitic stainless steel in the point of casting. When examining this material ultrasonically, the beam does not generally propagate straightforward but rather deviates from its original direction and this phenomenon called skewing is originally caused by anisotropic material. In order to calculate the beam skewing effect theoretically, work has been performed based on a model approach which has regarded material itself as having been composed of multi-layered columnar dendrite structure and the result was compared with the one from experiment. The result from both theory and experiment showed good correlation and ultrasonic beam showed the least skewing with around 45 degree incident angle.
