This paper presents an experimental study of six steel reinforced high strength concrete T-shaped short-limb shear walls configured with T-shaped steel truss under low cyclic reversed loading. Considering different categories of ratios of wall limb height to thickness, shear/span ratios, axial compression ratios and stirrup reinforcement ratios were selected to investigate the seismic behavior (strength, stiffness, energy dissipation capacity, ductility and deformation characteristics) of all the specimens. Two different failure modes were observed during the tests, including the flexural-shear failure for specimens with large shear/span ratio and the shear-diagonal compressive failure for specimens with small shear/span ratio. On the basis of requirement of Chinese seismic code, the deformation performance for all the specimens could not meet the level of 'three' fortification goals. Recommendations for improving the structural deformation capacity of T-shaped steel reinforced high strength concrete short-limb shear wall were proposed. Based on the experimental observations, the mechanical analysis models for concrete cracking strength and shear strength were derived using the equivalence principle and superposition theory, respectively. As a result, the proposed method in this paper was verified by the test results, and the experimental results agreed well with the proposed model.
Recent trends in the construction of building frame feature the use of composite steel concrete members. One of such system, RCS(Reinforced Concrete column and Steel beam) system, is known as a type of system to maximize the structural and economic benefits in the most efficient manner. This paper is focusing on an study of ultimate shear strength estimation of the interior beam-column joints of RCS system, with reinforced concrete column and steel beam. Current design methods as well as the majority of the previous researches for ultimate shear strength of the interior beam-column joint of RCS system are not easy to apply actual manner. There is a need to propose the rational macro models based on analytical approach. In this study, design method variables for interior beam-column joints of RCS system is studied assuming shear resistance of steel web panel, diagonal concrete strut mechanism and truss mechanism. Finally, calculated results based on the proposed design model are compared with test data.
A simplified analysis procedure utilizing the strut-tie modeling technique is developed to take a close look into the post-elastic deformation capacity of beam-column connections in ductile reinforced concrete frame structures. Particular emphasis is given to the effect of concrete strength decay and quantity and arrangement of joint shear steel. For this a fan-shaped crack pattern is postulated through the joints. A series of hypothetical rigid nodes are assumed through which struts, ties and boundaries are connected to each other. The equilibrium consideration enables all forces in struts, ties and boundaries to be related through the nodes. The boundary condition surrounding the joints is obtained by the mechanism analysis of the frame structures. In order to avoid a complexity from the indeterminacy of the truss model, it is assumed that all shear steel yielded. It is noted from the previous research that the capacity of struts is limited by the principal tensile strain of the joint panel for which the strain of the transverse diagonal is taken. The post-yield deformation of joint steel is taken to be the only source of the joint shear deformation beyond the elastic range. Both deformations are related by the energy consideration. The analysis is then performed by iteration for a given shear strain. The analysis results indicate that concentrating most of the joint steel near the center of the joint along with higher strength concrete may enhance the post-elastic joint performance.
This paper presents an investigation on seismic behavior of out-of-code Q690 circular high-strength concrete-filled thin-walled steel tubular (HCFTST) columns made up of high-strength (HS) steel tubes (yield strength $f_y{\geq}690MPa$). Eight Q690 circular HCFTST columns with various diameter-to-thickness (D/t) ratios, concrete cylinder compressive strengths ($f_c$) and axial compression ratios (n) were tested under the constant axial loading and reversed cyclic lateral loading. The obtained lateral load-displacement hysteretic curves, energy dissipation, skeleton curves and ductility, and stiffness degradation were analyzed in detail to reflect the influences of tested parameters. Subsequently, a simplified shear strength model was derived and validated by the test results. Finally, a finite element analysis (FEA) model incorporating a stress triaxiality dependent fracture criterion was established to simulate the seismic behavior. The systematic investigation indicates the following: compared to the D/t ratio and axial compression ratio, improving the concrete compressive strength (e.g., the HS thin-walled steel tube filled with HS concrete) had a slight influence on the ductility but an obvious enhancement of energy dissipation and peak load; the simplified shear strength model based on truss mechanism accurately predicted the shear-resisting capacity; and the established FEA model incorporating steel fracture criterion simulated well the seismic behavior (e.g., hysteretic curve, local buckling and fracture), which can be applied to the seismic analysis and design of Q690 circular HCFTST columns.
This paper introduces a new and effective design amplification factor-based approach for reliable optimum design of trusses. This paper may be categorized as in the family of decoupled methods that aiming for a reliable optimum design based on a Design Amplification Factor (DAF). To reduce the computational expenses of reliability analysis, an improved version of Response Surface Method (RSM) was used. Having applied this approach to two planar and one spatial truss problems, it exhibited a satisfactory performance.

The measured longitudinal reinforcement tensions in the shear-critical RC beams were significantly higher than the calculated values by the beam theory. This may be attributed to the reduction of the internal-moment arm length by the development of the arch action. In this paper, the measured longitudinal reinforcement tensions in the test performed by $Kim^4$ were compared with those predicted by the various truss model.

This paper presents, basic concepts on deformation models for D-regions critical to shear. Strut-and-tie models are used to construct for deformation estimation at yielding and ultimate deformation. A generic: strut-and-tie model is proposed to investigate deformation patterns and failure mode identification. Superposition of the basic models enables us to explain deformation limits of arch action and truss action. Displacement at yielding is assessed by consideration of deformation of reinforcing steel only while the ultimate displacement is calculated by limits of ultimate strain of concrete in compression and failure mechanisms.

Six of scaled concrete circular columns were experimentally investigated for the contribution of arch action to the column lateral resistance. For this the specimens with the variation of tranverse hoop steel spacing were tested in absence of axial loading All specimens showed the flexure governing behavior pattern irrelevant to transverse hoop spacing. This indicates that the role of arch action should be understood as the intermediate mechanism causing the interaction between shear and flexural mechanisms A simple truss model was proposed to qualitatively explain this notation but further study is needed to advance its application to general columns.

This paper presents an equation for balanced-steel ratio in longitudinal and transverse direction throughout analysis based on a space truss model introducing the concept of concrete softening effect. This paper also presents as equation for postcracking torisonal stiffness throughout analysis considering the equilibrium conditions and compatibility conditions based on shear panel. Correlation between predicted postcracking torsional stiffness, and experimental results was good, not only for beams tested in this paper but also for others in the literature.
