  • In RC structure, sufficient anchorage of reinforcement is necessary for the member to produce the full strength. Generally, conventional standard hook is used for the reinforcement's anchorage. However, the use of standard hook results in steel congestion, making fabrication and construction difficult. Mechanical anchor offers a potential solution to these problems and may also ease fabrication, construction and concrete placement. In this paper, the required characteristics and the design considerations of mechanical anchor were studied. Also, the mechanical anchor was designed according to the requirements. To investigate the pull-out behavior and properness of mechanical anchorage, pull-out tests were performed. The parameters of tests were embedment length, diameter of reinforcement, concrete compressive strength, and spacing of reinforcements. The strengths of mechanical anchor were consistent with the predictions by CCD method. The slip between mechanical anchor and concrete could be controlled under 0.2mm. Therefore, the mechanical anchor with adequate embedment could be used for reinforcement's anchorage. However, it was observed that the strength of mechanical anchors with short spacing of reinforcements was greatly reduced. To apply the mechanical anchor in practice (e.g. anchorage of the beams reinforcements in beam-column joint), other effects that affect the mechanical anchor mechanism, such as confinement effect of adjacent member from frame action or effects of shear reinforcement, should be considered.

  • We conducted research to develop a solidification agent for the ground surface reinforcement method in which activator is fused by recycling pig iron slag, which is a byproduct generated in the steel making process. The purpose of this research is to solve the problems of surface soil by improving the strength and durability of foundation soil such as soil loss, settlement, sinkhole, etc. by recycling pig iron slag from disused or landfilled steelworks. For this purpose, the possibility of using pig iron slag as a solidification soil was evaluated by the compressive strength, elution test of harmful materials, permeability coefficient test. As a result of the compressive strength test, the values of the strength of the curing 28 days of the solidified soil having the solidification agent mixing ratio of 12% were found to be 0.93, 0.96 and 1.3 MPa, respectively, satisfying the required strength value of 1 MPa, In the case of permeability coefficients, the minimum values were $4.1{\times}10^{-8}$, $7.0{\times}10^{-7}$, and $1.7{\times}10^{-7}cm/sec$, respectively, at the solidification agent mixing rate of 12%. In addition, as a result of the elution test of harmful materials, a small amount was detected in the item of hexavalent chromium but satisfied the inclusion criteria, and in the remaining items, heavy metals were not eluted.

  • In MRI, the Ferromagnetic artifact is generated by the metalization within in which the before inspection removal is impossible and the distortion of an image is brought. The distortion measure according to the steel for each sequence of T1 image and magnetic field intensity are analyzed and minimized method is looked into. We used SIEMENS 1.5T and 3.0T MRI for experiment equipment. First, it places within the Phantom making a metalization(Ti+Al, Stainless, Nitinol) on 1.5T, 3.0T MRI and the T1 weighted image for each Sequence is acquired. The distortion of an image and about adjacent portion change of the metal material were compared through the obtained image, we analyzed. In all metalizations, a distortion was generated and a distortion was few in particularly, and Titanium-Aluminium alloy. And the extent of a distortion was worse image in the Turbo spin Echo. The use of the Titanium-Aluminium alloy the inserted in an internal material of the metalization is recommend. and, equipment of 1.5T the patient inserting a metal in an internal is used in an inspection than equipment of 3.0T. Also, the sequence is suitable when it obtains the optimum T1 weighted image of an impersonate to use the Turbo spin Echo.

  • This study was performed using a laminar flow reactor that could replicate the combustion environment of pulverized coal in a blast furnace. Since a pulverized coal injection system was developed for iron making, the combustion characteristics of pulverized coal have been important in the iron and steel industry. The flame structure, particle temperature, and exhaust gas were investigated for different types of coal. The results of this study demonstrated that the combustion characteristics of coal are influenced by several properties of individual coals. In particular, the CO emission and volatile matter content of individual coals were found to have a strong influence on their combustion characteristics. Thus, this study found the properties of the coals to be significant and focused on the particle temperature and CO and $CO_2$ emissions.

  • Metal three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies are mainly classified as powder bed fusion (PBF) and direct energy deposition (DED) methods according to the method of application of a laser beam to metallic powder. The DED method can be used to fabricate fine and hard 3D metallic structures by applying a strong laser beam to a thin layer of metallic powder. The PBF method involves slicing 3D graphics to be a certain height, laminating metal powders, and making a 3D structure using a laser. While the DED method has advantages such as laser cladding and metallic welding, it causes problems with low density when 3D shapes are created. The PBF method was introduced to address the structural density issues in the DED method and makes it easier to produce relatively dense 3D structures. In this paper, thin lines were produced by using PBF 3D printers with stainless-steel powder of roughly $30{\mu}m$ in diameter with a galvano scanner and fiber-transferred Nd:YAG laser beam. Experiments were carried out to find the optimal conditions for the width of a line depending on the processing times, laser power, spot size, and scan speed. The optimal conditions were two scanning processes in one line structure with a laser power of 30 W, spot size of $28.7{\mu}m$, and scan speed of 200 mm/s. With these conditions, a minimum width of about $85.3{\mu}m$ was obtained.

  • Ship structures are basically an assembly of plate elements and the load-carrying capacity or the ultimate strength is one of the most important criteria for safety assessment and economic design. Also, Structural elements making up ship plated structures do not work separately, resulting in high degree of redundancy and complexity, in contrast to those of steel framed structures. To enable the behavior of such structures to be analyzed simplifications or idealizations must essentially be made considering the accuracy needed and the degree of complexity of the analysis to be used On this study, to investigate effect of modeling range, the finite element method are used and their results are compared varying the analysis ranges. The model has been selected from bottom panels of merchant ship structures. For FHA, three types of structural modeling are adopted in terms of the extent of the analysis. The purpose of the present study is to numerically calculate the characteristics of ultimate strength behavior according to the analysis ranges of stiffened panels subject to uniaxial compressive loads.

  • An experimental investigation was carried out in order to verify the compressive strength, flexural strength, equivalent bending strength, rebound rate of shotcrete according to silicate accelerator, aluminate accelerator, cement mineral accelerator respectively and to especially evaluate the performance of shotcrete using cement mineral accelerator for high quality. The test result of compressive strength was showed that all accelerators were satisfied the required test value for each age, for the requirement of having the $75\%$ or higher compressive strength ratio to plain concretes at 28 days, cement mineral accelerator with $87\%$ compressive strength ratio was only satisfied. In flexural strength test, cement mineral accelerator was satisfied the flexural strength requirement in steel fiber reinforced shotcrete for each age. Aluminate type was conformed to the requirement for 28 days, but not at 1 day, silicate type was failed to satisfy standard requirement. Rebound rate was measured between $11{\~}19\%$ and cement mineral accelerator was showed comparatively lower rebound rate. Based on the test results, cement mineral accelerator exhibited excellent strength improvement and lower rebound rate compared to the conventional accelerator, its result is showed the possibility of making high performance shotcrete.

  • Recently, executives learned of the strategic impact that information systems (IS) and information technology (IT) could provide to their organizations. In other words, through IS/IT companies could squelch competition, secure suppliers, obtain customer loyalty, reduce the threat of new entrants, and identify new opportunities. Because of these potential benefits, organizations are investing ever-increasing amount of organizational resources in IS/IT to make their organizations as information-based ones. Information-based organizations depend largely upon computer hardwares and softwares for their ongoing operations and management. Thus, organizations must manage their information resources, especially hardwares and softwares very effectively to remain competitive. Information resource management (IRI) is a program of activities directed at making effective use of information technology within an organization. These activities cover from corporate IS/IT planning to application system development, implementation, and maintenance. In more detail, IRV activities include planning for and acquiring computer hardwares and communication equipments, planning for, selection, and management of software development projects, and re-engineering business processes as IS/IT are integrated into organizational management. Among these activities, planning for and acquisition of computer hardwares, and planning for and management of software projects are the most critical ones since these activities require enormous amount of such important corporate resources as money, people, and time. Furthermore, corporate's eventual success largely depends upon whether corporate's policy on IS/IT is effective one or not. Numerous approaches and concepts to specific IRM activities have been proposed. However, many organizations have experienced various problems in the process of applying these approaches to their IRM activities mainly because existing methodologies and guidelines are too general to adapt to each firm's unigue situation. Also, these approaches are having its own strengths and weaknesses. Thus, people in charge of organization's IRM policy should come up with effective guidelines to maintain his position very long. In this study, we reviewed some existing approaches for planning, evaluation, and acquisition of computer hardware. Then, real experiences from Taechang Steel Co., Ltd. located in Taegu, which is one of the largest Coil Service Centers in Korea, are discussed. The major purposes of the study are : (1) to discuss the tradeoffs of existing approaches on hardware evaluation and acquisition, (2) to provide a real experience of a company to facilitate the application of theoretical concepts to the real environment.

  • This study suggests institutional and methodological approaches for preservation of South Korea's registered cultural properties of modern architecture. The suggested approaches are as follows. First, in order to improve the current registration and preservation system for cultural properties, we need to employ both structure-based classification and style-based classification. Registration criteria for modern architecture properties need to include more detailed classification in terms of their structure: brick structure, steel concrete structure and post lintel structure. In terms of construction style, the properties need to be further classified into the western style, the traditional style and the Korean-western eclectic style. In addition, protection of registered cultural properties need to be achieved through legislation of a protection system. Second, while the current system sets out six methods for preservation of registered cultural properties of modern architecture, more specific preservation methods types and plans need to be continuously introduced. In particular, as for the method of partial preservation, the method needs to be further classified based on the usage of the relevant structure so as to allow for more diverse options. First, the 'Preservation by Interior Alteration' needs to be added to the category, where the exterior is preserved as it is and the interior is preserved through alteration. Also needs to be added the preservation method where the interior space is preserved as it is and the exterior space is altered, in case the finishing materials of the exterior has deteriorated. Third, if the records on registered cultural properties of modern architecture are to provide the functions of legal evidences regarding management of architectural cultural properties, sources of knowledge required for policy making and implementation and past management record for the future, each phase needs to be closely connected in an organic manner, and we need to establish a management system and plan that go beyond the relevant organizations. Fourth, in order to preserve South Korea's registered cultural properties of modern architecture in its original state, it is imperative to prepare separate criteria for registration of technicians with expertise on modern architecture, and train experts and technicians on modern architecture, which is distinguished from the traditional architecture.

  • The effects of resin on the respiratory health have been investigated in 309 workers from four iron and steel foundries and the results compared with those from 122 workers who were not significantly exposed to resin gas and silica dust at the same industries. Phenol-formaldehyde resin was used in the core making and molding processes and workers were exposed to their decomposition products as well as to silica dust containing particulates. The subjects were grouped according to formaldehyde, dust and other gas exposures, and smoking habits were considered also in thi analysis. Standardized respiratory symptom questionnaire was administered by trained interviewers. Chest radiograph, pulmonary funtion tests, and methacholine challenge tests were done. Environmental measurements at the breathing zone were carried out to determine levels of formaldehyde, respiable dust and total dust. Foundry workers had a higher prevalence of symptoms of chronic bronchitis with chronic phlegm and chronic cough when exposed to dust. Exposure to gas was significantly associated with lowered $FEV_1$ and obstructive pulmonary function changes. Exposure to formaldehyde and phenol gas was associated with wheezing symptom among workers, but $FEV_1$ changes after methacholine challenge were not significantly different among different exposure groups. When asthma was defined as the presence of bronchial hyperreactivity with more than 20% decrease in $FEV_1$ after methacholine challenge, 17 workers out of 222 tested had asthma. Fewer asthmatic welters were found among groups exposed to formaldehyde, gas and dust, which indicates a healthy worker effects ill a cross-sectional study. The concentration of formaldehyde gas ranged from 0.24 to 0.43 ppm among studied foundries. The authors conclude that formaldehyde and phenol gas from combusted resin is probably the cause of asthmatic symptoms and also a selection force of those with higher bronchial reactivity away from exposures.
