In this paper, vehicle-bridge interaction analysis under a series of moving vehicles to simulate a lane load was performed to estimate impact factor of the main cable, hanger and girder for the selected suspension bridges with 404m and 1545m main span. Korea Bridge Design Code(Limit State Design) was selected for the live model in which KL-510 truck was modeled 6-d.o.f. vehicle and a lane load was simulated by a series of single-axle vehicles. For the 404m main span bridge, hinge-type and floating-type girders at the tower were considered to examine the impact factor according to the connection and supporting type of the girders. The parameters considered herein are the types of live load-a truck only and a truck plus lane load, eccentricity of moving vehicles, road surface roughness and vehicle speed. The road surface roughness was randomly generated based on ISO 8608 and it was applied to the truck only. The impact factors were also evaluated by using the influence line method that is commonly used in cable-supported bridges and compared with those from vehicle-bridge interaction analysis.
In this paper, semi-rigid elasto-plastic post-buckling analysis of a space frame was performed using various explicit arc-length methods. Various explicit arc-length methodsand a large-deformation and small-strain elasto-plastic 3D space frame element with semi-rigid connections and plastic hinges were developed. This element can be appliedto both explicit and implicit numerical algorithms. In this study, the Dynamic Relaxation method was adopted in the predictor and corrector processesto formulate an explicit arc-length algorithm. The developed "explicit-predictor" or "explicit-corrector" were used in the elasto-plastic post-buckling analysis. The Eulerian equations for a beam-column with finite rotation, which considers the bowing effects, were adopted for the elastic system and extended to theinelastic system with a plastic hinge concept. The derived tangent stiffness matrix was asymmetrical due to the finite rotation. The joint connection elements were introduced for semi-rigidity using a static condensation technique. Semi-rigid elasto-plastic post-buckling analyses were carried out to demonstrate the potential of the developed explicit arc-length method and advanced space frame element in terms of accuracy and efficiency.

Most beam-to-column connections are symmetrically reinforced because of the reverse action caused by earthquakes. However, in weak-earthquake regions like Korea, asymmetrically reinforced connections could be used. In particular, the connections between concrete-filled tube (CFT) column and H-shape beam could be applied using a simplified lower diaphragm. The tensile capacity or Combined Cross Diaphragm for upper reinforcing was tested using a simple tension test. Four types for lower reinforcing combined Cross, none, horizontal T-bar, and vertical plate were tested using the ANSI/AISC SSPEC 2002 loading program. Horizontal T-bar and stud bolts in vertical flat, bar transmit tensile stress from the beam's bottom flange to filled concrete. All test specimens satisfied 0.01 radian inelastic rotational requirement in ordinary moment frame of AISC seismic provision. According to the results of the parametric studies simplified lower diaphragms demonstrated outstanding strength, stiffness, and plastic deformation capacity which could lead to more sufficient seismic performance in the field.

Austenitic stainless steels have excellent corrosion resistance, durability and fire resistance. Especially, since STS304L among austenitic types is a low-carbon variation of STS304 and has excellent intergranular corrosion resistance, it can often be used under the welded condition without heat treatment after field welding. This paper investigated ultimate behaviors such as ultimate strength and weld metal fracture mechanism of STS304L fillet-welded connections with TIG(tungsten inert gas) welding through test results. Main variables of specimens are weld length and welding direction against loading. Fracture of specimens are classified into three modes(tensile fracture, shear fracture and block shear fracture). Ultimate strengths were compared according to the welding direction and weld length and TFW series with transverse fillet weld had the highest strength compared with other types(LFW series with longitudinal fillet weld and FW series with all round weld). It is known that current design specifications such as KBC 2016 and AISC2010 underestimated the strength of TFW and LFW specimens and provided unconservative estimates for FW specimens. Finally, strength equations were proposed considering material properties of STS 304L material.

Various artificial reefs provide the fish habitat and nursery, and contribute the improvement of fisheries productivity. The evaluation methods of fishery resources in the artificial reefs have been done by fishing, scuba diving, underwater camera, and scientific echo sounder/sonar. There are a number of studies using echosounders on the quantitative and qualitative evaluations of artificial reefs in various seas around the world. This study focused on the spatial distribution of fishes around artificial reefs and the influential area of reefs off Bukchon, Jeju Island. Not only acoustic data but also various properties of artificial reefs were used in the geographic information system to extract relevant results. As a result, the major material of reefs on this study site was concrete and the number of reefs with that material was the most. The volume of reefs consisted of steel only and steel with riprap was considerably large compared to other reefs. The average NASC in the vertical distribution of fishes in artificial reefs was $31.6m^2/nm^2$ in April, and that was $61.3m^2/nm^2$ in June. The distance between the fish school and their nearest reef in June morning had a wide range from 750 to 3250 m. On the basis of the influence ray of artificial reefs, it had a tendancy of NASC to decrease with distance from the reef in the June morning. It is a preliminary study to present the geospatial analysis example to understand a better way of comprehensive artificial reef environments.
When the pressure at the weak spot established at a certain part of a high pressure vessel or piping system exceeds a design pressure, this weak spot is burst, and the pressurized gas emitted through the weak spot will cause a compression wave system. In this connection, in the present study, an experimental study by using a conventional shock tube facility is performed to estimate the effects of the material of diaphragm, curvature radius and thickness of materials on the valve opening time in diaphragm. Pressure sensor having 500kHz in natural frequency is installed at 35mm downstream of the rupture diaphragm to measure the static pressure history of propagating and being accumulated compression wave. 4 kinds of materials are used as diaphragm that is aluminium, copper, stainless steel and zinc. The diaphragm radii of curvature R are ${\infty}$, 120mm and 60, respectively. And the depth for $90^{\circ}$ groove is 0.04mm. It is found that the smaller the tensile strength and elongation of the rupture diaphragm is, the smaller the radius of curvature of the rupture diaphragm is, and for the same conditions the thinner the thickness of the rupture diaphragm is, the shorter the valve opening time becomes. Also, the tensile strength, elongation and the radius of curvature of the rupture diaphragm for the same conditions are smaller, the maximum pressure rise caused by the coalescences of the compression wave is smaller. Finally the pressure ratio is higher, the valve opening time is shortened and gradient of pressure increment is more steepen.

While structures are designed within elastic range by other designs, plastic behavior of structures should be verified and controlled in order to prevent structural collapse by the earthquake resistant design. No Collapse Requirement for typical bridges is to avoid falling down of superstructure by way of plastic behavior of certain structural elements and to operate emergency vehicles after earthquake. Such plastic behavior is restricted to connections or pier columns and appropriate measures are required for each case. Earthquake Resistant Design part of Roadway Bridge Design Code provides design processes for Ductile Collapse Mechanism by forming plastic hinges at pier columns. Also for bridges with reinforced concrete piers ductility-based design processes are provided as an appendix constructing Brittle Collapse Mechanism with connection yielding. In this study, a typical bridge with steel bearing connections and reinforced concrete piers is selected and No Collapse Design procedure considering both Ductile and Brittle Collapse Mechanism is proposed together with revisions required for the Earthquake Resistant Design part.

A newly puzzle shape of crestbond rib shear connector is a type of ductile perfobond rib shear connector. This shear connector has some advantages, including relatively easy rebar installation and cutting, as well as the higher shear resistance strength. Thus, this study proposed a newly puzzle shape of crestbond rib with a "${\mho}$" shape, and its shear resistance behaviors and shear strengths were examined using push-out tests. Five main parameters were considered in the push-out specimens to evaluate the effects of shear resistance parameters such as the dimensions of the crestbond rib, transverse rebars in the crestbond dowel, concrete strength, rebar strength, and dowel action on the shear strength. The shear loading test results were used to compare the changes in the shear behaviors, failure modes, and shear strengths. It was found that the concrete strength and number of transverse rebars in the crestbond rib were significantly related to its shear resistance. After the initial bearing resistance behavior of the concrete dowel, a relative slip occurred in all the specimens. However, its rigid behavior to shear loading decreased the ductility of the shear connection. The cross-sectional area of the crestbond rib was also shown to have a minor effect on the shear resistance of the crestbond rib shear connector. The failure mechanism of the crestbond rib shear connector was complex, and included compression, shear, and tension. As a failure mode, a crack was initiated in the middle of the concrete slab in a vertical direction, and propagated with increasing shear load. Then, horizontal cracks occurred and propagated to the front and rear faces of the specimens. Based on the results of this study, a design shear strength equation was proposed and compared with previously suggested equations.
To study the rail mapped deformation caused by the pier settlement of simply - supported bridges with China Railway Track System III (CRTS III) slab ballastless track (SBT) system under the mode of non-longitudinal connection ballastless track slab, this study derived an analytical solution to the mapped relationships between pier settlement and rail deformation based on the interlayer interaction mechanism of rail-pier and principle of stationary potential energy. The analytical calculation results were compared with the numerical results obtained by ANSYS finite element calculation, thus verifying the accuracy of analytical method. A parameter analysis was conducted on the key factors in rail mapped deformation such as pier settlement, fastener stiffness, and self-compacting concrete (SCC) stiffness of filling layer. The results indicate that rail deformation is approximately proportional to pier settlement. The smaller the fastener stiffness, the smoother the rail deformation curve and the longer the rail deformation area is. With the increase in the stiffness of SCC filling layer, the maximum positive deformation of rail gradually decreases, and the maximum negative deformation gradually increases. The deformation of rail caused by the pier settlement of common-span bridge structures will generate low-frequency excitation on high-speed trains.
This paper investigates the behavior of precast concrete (PC) shear walls with a new vertical connections for a fast remodeling construction. The C-type vertical connections for the PC wall systems are proposed for transfer of bending moment between top and bottom walls in the vertical direction while a shear key in the center of wall is prepared to transfer shear forces by bearing action. The proposed vertical connections allows easy fabrication thanks to slots at the edges of wall in opposite directions. The plane PC wall systems subject to lateral load are compared with ordinary wall systems by investigating the effects of connection on the stiffness, strength, ductility, and failure modes of whole systems. The load-displacement relationship and influence of premature failure of connections are examined. The experimental test showed that the longitudinal reinforcing steel bars placed at the edges of walls yielded first and the ultimate deformation were terminated due to premature failure of connections. The diagonal reinforcements for efficient shear transfer in the walls were not effective. The strength and deformation obtained through the section analysis were generally in agreement with the experimental data, and indicated that. Gap opening contributed to the deformation behavior more than any other factors.
