Ru계 촉매의 CO 선택적 산화 반응 및 1 kW급 천연가스 연료처리 시스템의 성능 연구 (Performance of Ru-based Preferential Oxidation Catalyst and Natural Gas Fuel Processing System for 1 kW Class PEMFCs System)

  • KIER has been developing a Ru-based preferential oxidation catalysts and a novel fuel processing system to provide hydrogen rich gas to residential PEMFCs system. The catalytic activity of Ru-based catalysts was investigated at different Ru loading amount and different support structure. The obtained result indicated that 2 wt% loaded Ru-based catalyst supported on ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ showed high activity in low temperature range and suppressed the methanation reaction. The developed prototype fuel processor showed thermal efficiency of 78% as a HHV basis with methane conversion of 92%. CO concentration below 10 ppm in the produced gas is achieved with separate preferential oxidation unit under the condition of $[O_2]/[CO]=2.0$. The partial load operation have been carried out to test the performance of fuel processor from 40% to 80% load, showing stable methane conversion and CO concentration below 10 ppm. The durability test for the daily start-stop and 8 h operation procedure is under investigation and shows no deterioration of its performance after 50 start-stop cycles. Impact of thermal and chemical treatment on the mechanical properties of E110 and E110G cladding tubes

  • The mechanical and corrosion behavior of the Russian zirconium fuel cladding alloy E110, predominantly used in VVERs, has been investigated for many decades. The recent commercialization of a new, optimized E110 alloy, produced on a sponge zirconium basis, gave the opportunity to compare the mechanical properties of the old and the new E110 fuel claddings. Axial and tangential tensile test experiments were performed with samples from both claddings in the MTA EK. Due to the anisotropy of the cladding tubes, the axial tensile strength was 10-15% higher than the tangential (measured by ring tensile tests). The tensile strength of the new E110G alloy was 11% higher than that of the E110 cladding at room temperature. Some samples underwent chemical treatment - slight oxidation in steam or hydrogenation - or heat treatment - in argon atmosphere at temperatures between 600 and $1000^{\circ}C$. The heat treatment during the oxidation had more significant effect on the tensile strength of the claddings than the oxidation itself, which lowered the tensile strength as the thickness of the metal decreased. The hydrogenation of the cladding samples slightly lowered the tensile strength and the samples but they remained ductile even at room temperature.

  • In autothermal reforming reaction, oxygen to carbon ratio (OCR) and steam to carbon ratio (SCR) are significant factors, which control temperature and carbon deposition into the reactor. The OCR is more sensitive than the SCR to affect the temperature distribution and reforming efficiency. In conventional operation, hydrocarbon fuel, steam, and oxygen was homogeneously mixed and injected into the reactor in order to get hydrogen-rich gas. The temperature was abruptly raised due to fast oxidation reaction in the former part of the reactor. Deactivation of packed catalysts can be accelerated there. In the present study, therefore, the effect of the oxygen distribution is introduced and investigated to suppress the carbon deposition and to maintain the reactor in the mild operating temperature (e.g., $700{\sim}800^{\circ}C$). In order to investigate the effect numerically, the following models are adopted; heterogeneous reaction model and two-medium model for heat balance.

  • 수소에너지는 기존의 석유화학공업의 원료로서 뿐만 아니라 연료전지와 연계하여 소요량이 급속히 증가할 것으로 예측된다. 장기적으로는 재생에너지를 사용한 물 전기분해, 원자력을 이용한 수소 제조가 주목받고 있지만, 안정된 기술이 확보되기까지는 화석연료를 사용한 수소 제조법이 대용량 수소 제조법 중 가장 경제적인 것으로 분석되고 있다. 현재 화석 연료 중 천연가스를 이용한 수증기 개질 수소 제조법이 상업적인 공정으로 채택되고 있으나 $CO_2$ 분리 처리 비용이 경제성 평가에 중요한 항목으로 부각되고 있다. 따라서 천연가스를 이용한 수소 제조에도 다양한 공정이 제안되고 있으므로 천연가스를 원료로 한 수소 제조 기술의 개발 현황을 살펴보았다.

GlidArc 플라즈마를 이용한 메탄 부분산화 및 Ni 촉매 개질 특성 (Characteristic of Partial Oxidation of Methane and Ni Catalyst Reforming using GlidArc Plasma)

  • 부분산화가 적용된 저온플라즈마는 메탄으로부터 합성가스를 생산하는 기술이다. 저온 플라즈마 기술은 수증기 개질, 이산화탄소 개질을 이용한 개질기 보다 소형화와 시동특성이 우수한 장점을 가지고 있으며 다양한 분야에 적용이 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 GlidArc 방전을 이용한 저온플라즈마 개질기를 제안하였다. 개질 특성을 파악하고자 변수별 연구로서 가스 조성비율(O$_2$/CH$_4$), 수증기 주입량, 니켈과 철 촉매의 비교 및 이산화탄소 주입량에 대해 실험을 수행하였다. 최적의 수소 생산 조건은 O$_2$/C비가 0.64, 주입 가스유량은 14.2 L/min, 촉매의 반응기의 내부 온도는 672$^{\circ}C$, 주입 가스 량에 대한 수증기 유량 비율은 0.8 그리고 유입전력이 1.1 kJ/L일 때, 41.1%로 최대 수소 농도를 나타냈다. 그리고 이때 메탄의 전환율, 수소 수율 그리고 개질기 열효율은 각각 46.5%, 89.1%, 37.5%를 나타냈다.

  • High temperature electrolysis is a promising technology to produce massively hydrogen using renewable and nuclear energy. Solid oxide fuel cell materials are candidates as the components of steam electrolysers. However, the polarization characteristics of the typical electrode materials during the electrolysis have not been intensively investigated. In this study, NiO electrode was deposited on YSZ electrolyte by spin coat process and firing at $1300^{\circ}C$. Pt electrode was applied on the other side of the electrolyte to compare the polarization characteristics with those by NiO during electrolysis. The $H_2$ evolution rate was also monitored by measuring the electromotive force of Lambda probe and calculated by thermodynamic consideration. At low current density, Pt showed lower cathodic polarization and thus higher current efficiency than Ni, but the oxidation of Ni into NiO caused the increase of anodic resistance with increasing current density. High overpotential induced high power consumption to produce hydrogen by electrolysis.

  • 고온 수증기(1323 K)분위기에서 산화시킨 지르칼로이-4 피복관으로, 구리 맨드렐 팽창실험(Copper Mandrel Expension Test)을 변형률(Strain Rate)이 $3.0\times10^{-5}$/sec일때 673-1173 K 온도 범위에서 수행하였다. 본 연구에서, 산화매개변수(Ki)는 시간(t)의 제곱근에 비례하고 $(Ki=\delta_{kit}\frac{1}{2}$), 비례상수($\delta_{ki}$)는 무게증가(Weight Gain), Zr02의 두께, $\alpha$(0) 층에 대하여 각각 0.281, 2.82, 2.313을 사용하였다. 지르칼로이-4의 고온(873-1073 K) 소성변형에 의한 활성화 에너지는 Zr02가 높은 강도를 갖기 때문에 산화 시간이 5분에서 60분으로 증가함에 따라 251 KJ/mol에서 323KJ/mo1로 증가하였다. 산화막 두께, K와 항복 응력의 관계는 ($\sigma/C)^n=K^m$exp (Q/RT)인 관계식을 얻었다. 여기서 n은 6.9, m은 5.7, 그리고 Q가 251, 258, 316, 323 KJ/mo1에 대해 C는 0.155, 0.138, 0.051, 0.046MPa이다.

  • Steam reforming and catalytic reforming of $CH_4$ conversion to produce synthesis gas require both high temperatures and high pressure. Non-thermal plasma is considered to be a promising technology for the hydrogen rich gas production from methane. In this study, three phase AC GlidArc plasma system was employed to investigate the effects of gas composition, gas flow rate, catalyst reactor temperature and applied electric power on the $CH_4$ and $H_2$ yield and the product distribution. The studied system consisted of three electrode and it connected AC generate power system different voltages. In this study, air was used for the partial oxidation of methane. The results showed that increasing gas flow rate, catalyst reactor temperature, or electric power enhanced $CH_4$ conversion and $H_2$ concentration. The reference conditions were found at a $O_2$/C molar ratio of 0.45, a feed flow rate of 4.9 ${\ell}$/min, and input power of 1kW for the maximum conversions of $CH_4$ with a high selectivity of $H_2$ and a low reactor energy density.

High Temperature Corrosion in Carbon-Rich Gases

  • Common methods for large scale hydrogen production, such as steam reforming and coal gasification, also involve production of carbonaceous gases. It is therefore necessary to handle process gas streams involving various mixtures of hydrocarbons, $H_2$, $H_2O$, CO and $CO_2$ at moderate to high temperatures. These gases pose a variety of corrosion threats to the alloys used in plant construction. Carbon is a particularly aggressive corrodent, leading to carburisation and, at high carbon activities, to metal dusting. The behaviour of commercial heat resisting alloys 602CA and 800, together with that of 304 stainless steel, was studied during thermal cycling in $CO/CO_2$ at $650-750^{\circ}C$, and also in $CO/H_2/H_2O$ at $680^{\circ}C$. Thermal cycling caused repeated scale separation, which accelerated chromium depletion from the alloy subsurface regions. The $CO/H_2/H_2O$ gas, with $a_C=2.9$ and $p(O_2)=5\times10^{-23}$ atm, caused relatively rapid metal dusting, accompanied by some internal carburisation. In contrast, the $CO/CO_2$ gas, with $a_C=7$ and $p(O_2)=10^{-23}-10^{-24}$ atm caused internal precipitation in all three alloys, but no dusting. Inward diffusion of oxygen led to in situ oxidation of internal carbides. The very different reaction morphologies produced by the two gas mixtures are discussed in terms of competing gas-alloy reaction steps.

유동상 반응로 조건에서 목재와 RDF 부분가스화의 영향 (Effect of Partial Oxidation of Wood and RDF in a Fluidized Bed)

  • Gasification characteristics in the fluidized bed reactor are essential for the design of a gasification furnace to optimize the operation condition. Moisture content of the solid fuel is one of the important factors to influence directly the gasification characteristics. So it is necessary to investigate the effect of moisture content of solid fuel in gasification process. Gasification characteristics are investigated with results from thermogravimetric analyser and lab-scale fluidized bed reactor for wood and RDF samples along with changing moisture contents. Additionally lab-scale fluidized bed reactor was run continuously and gas concentrations at the exit were measured. It is observed that the rate of reaction in partial oxidation condition is in between the results from the combustion environment and from the inert condition. Moisture content in a particle slows down the heating rate of a particle. So, reaction time is delayed by the moisture content. However, RDF samples that are easy to break-up doesn't show the effect of moisture content. The results of continuous operation condition shows that proper moisture content promotes gasification because steam from the particles helps gasifcation of the sold fuel.
