Two experiments were made. In experiment 1, four diets containing 0, 5, 15 and 25% washed seaweed meal were prepared to study the effects of incorporating seaweed meal instead of equivalent amounts of berseem leaf meal in fish feeds on growth performance and feed utilization of common carp. The results showed that average daily gain (ADG), specific growth rate (SGR%), dry matter (DM) and ether extract (EE) of the carcasses were decreased (p<0.05) with the increasing level of seaweed meal in the feeds. Inclusion of 5% seaweed meal in the diet gave the best feed conversion ratio (FCR) among all diets, however, protein productive value (PPV) and energy utilization (EU) were decreased (p<0.05) with increasing level of seaweed meal in the diet. In experiment 2, washed seaweed meal was either steam cooked or sprayed with NaOH (0.5% or 1% NaOH) and incorporated in the diets at the level of 25% instead of equivalent amount of berseem leaf meal. The results showed that steam cooked seaweed gave the best (p<0.05) growth performance, FCR and protein efficiency ratios, PER and PPV, for other treatments in descending order were NaOH treated seaweed, washed seaweed and unwashed seaweed.
The objective of this paper is to describe the experimental and numerical investigation of the analysis of the heat transfer in a solar chemical reactor. These are compared about methane steam reforming process in the solar chemical reactor which was a volumetric absorber consisting of honeycomb and a multilayered catalyst supports. With this high operating temperature, convective heat loss, thermal fracture are important features for designing SCR. In order to estimate the system performance and to design the actual solar reactor with various conditions, CFD analysis was used in this study. The nickel oxide porous metal is inserted inside the solar chemical reactor to increase the conversion rate of the reforming reaction. Simulation has been carried out based on the experimental data. According to the simulation results, the optimum methane-steam mole ratio and thickness and numbers of catalyst supports were obtained.

Biomass and low-grade coals are known to be better potential sources of energy compared to crude oil and natural gas since these materials are readily available and found to have large reserves, respectively. Gasification of these carbonaceous materials produced syngas for chemical synthesis and power generation. Woodchip, sawdust and lignite were gasified with steam in a thermobalance reactor under atmospheric pressure in order to evaluate their kinetic rate information. The effects of gasification temperature ($600{\sim}900^{\circ}C$) and partial pressure of steam (20~90 kPa) on the gasification rate were investigated. The three different types of gas-solid reaction models were applied to the experimental data to predict the behavior of the gasification reactions. The modified volumetric model predicted the conversion data well, thus the model was used to evaluate kinetic parameters in this study. The observed activation energy of biomass, sawdust and lignite gasification reactions were found to be in reasonable range and their rank was found to be sawdust > woodchip > lignite. The expression of apparent reaction rates for steam gasification of the three solids was proposed to provide basic information on the design of coal gasification processes.
The production of hydrogen from steam by reduced iron with additives such as CuO, $In_2O_3$, $MoO_3$ and $WO_3$ has been kinetically investigated. It was shown that all additives have a promoting effect on reaction activity in the order of $$MoO_3{\gg}In_2O_3{\sim_=}WO_3{\sim_=}CuO$$. The shrinking core model was applied to predict the complete conversion time and the results were quite comparable with experimental values. The reaction was carried out in a fixed flow reactor packed with reduced iron with 1 wt % of additives under the conditions, $600-750^{\circ}C$, Ar flow rate of 1 L/min and steam partial pressure of 0.085 atm. The apparent activation energies were 14.2, 20.9, 21.3, 22.4 and 27.9 kJ/mol with $MoO_3$, $In_2O_3$, $WO_3$, CuO and without additive, respectively.
Wheat flour was extruded by a single-screw extruder, and used for the ethanol production of takju. The molecular structure and enzymic susceptability of extruded starch were compared to those of steam cooked one. The gel permeation chromatographic pattern of wheat flour extrudates was not significantly different from those of raw and steam cooked starches. However, the conversion rate of extruded starch into maltose by ${\alpha}-amylase$ hydrolysis was significantly faster than those of raw ad steamed starch. The molecular weight of starch estimated from GPC pattern and the intrinsic viscosity were remarkably reduced by extrusion cooking followed by the enzymic hydrolysis for 30 min, while steam cooking and enzymic hydrolysis for 30 min did not change them significantly. Extrusion-cooked flour produced alcohol 26% higher than that of steamed flour in the laboratory takju fermentation, and 10% more alcohol in the pilot plant scale takju production.
Fixed-bed reactor Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of methanol steam reforming reaction was performed using the intrinsic kinetic data of the copper-impregnated hydrotalcite catalyst. The activation energy of the copper hydrotalcite catalyst obtained from the previous study results was 97.4 kJ/mol, and the pre-exponential was 5.904 × 1010. Process simulation was performed using the calculated values and showed a similar tendency to the experimental results. And the conversion rate according to the change of the reaction temperature (200 - 450 ℃) and the molar ratio of methanol and water was observed using the intrinsic kinetic data. In addition, mass and heat transfer phenomena analysis of a commercial reactor (I.D. 0.05 - 0.1m, Length 1m) was predicted through axial 2D Symmetry simulation using the power law model of the above kinetic constants.

Synthesis gas is a high valued compound as a basic chemicals at various chemical processes. Synthesis gas is mainly produced commercially by a steam reforming process. However, the process is highly endothermic so that the process is very energy-consuming process. Thus, this study was carried out to produce synthesis gas by the partial oxidation of methane to decrease the energy cost. The effects of reaction temperature and flow rate of reactants on the methane conversion, product selectivity, product ratio, and carbon deposition were investigated with 13wt% Ni/MgO catalyst in a fluidized bed reactor. With the fluidized bed reactor, $CH_4$ conversion was 91%, and Hz and CO selectivities were both 98% at 850$^{\circ}C$ and total flow rate of 100 mL/min. These values were higher than those of fixed bed reactor. From this result, we found that with the use of the fluidized bed reactor it was possible to avoid the disadvantage of fixed bed reactor (explosion) and increase the productivity of synthesis gas.
CCU (Carbon Capture & Utilization) has a potential technology for the reduction and usage of carbon dioxide which is greenhouse gas emitting from a fossil fuel buring. To decompose the carbon dioxide, a three phase gliding arc plasma-catalytic reactor was designed and manufactured. Experiments of carbon dioxide reduction was performed by varying the gas flow rate with feeding the $CO_2$ only as well as the input power, the catalyst type and steam supply with respect to the injection of the mixture of $CO_2$ and $CH_4$. The $CO_2$ decomposition rate was 7.9% and the energy efficiency was $0.0013L/min{\cdot}W$ at a $CO_2$ flow rate of 12 L/min only. Carbon monoxide and oxygen was generated in accordance with the destruction of carbon dioxide. When the injection ratio of $CH_4/CO_2$ reached 1.29, the $CO_2$ destruction and $CH_4$ conversion rates were 37.8% and 56.6% respectively at a power supply of 0.76 kW. During the installation of $NiO/Al_2O_3$ catalyst bed, the $CO_2$ destruction and $CH_4$ conversion rates were 11.5% and 9.9% respectively. The steam supply parameter do not have any significant effects on the carbon dioxide decomposition.
To develope chemical heat pump using available energy sources, solar heat and other kinds of waste thermal energy, we have studied the heat transfer rate in cylindrical bed reactor packed with calcined Dolomite. Two dimensional (radial and circumferential) Partial differential equations, concerning heat and mass transfer in packed bed of calcined Dolomite, are solved numerically to describe the characteristics of the reaction of calcined Dolomite and heat transfer. The results obtained by numerical analysis about two dimensional profiles of temperature and conversion of reactant in the packed bed reactor and the amount of exothermic heat released from the reactor are follows. It was found that all of calcined Dolomite packed bed kept the reaction temperature of about 750K throughout the entire part of the bed, immediately after the steam was introduced exothermic reaction of hydration was proceeded from the packed bed inpu to output and from wall side to center. The rate of thermochemical reaction depends on the temperature and concentration and it is also governed by the boundary conditions and heat transfer rate in the particle packed bed.
Lignite of low rank coal and petroleum coke of high sulfur content can be high potential energy sources for coal gasification process because of their plentiful supply. The kinetic study of steam gasification has been performed in an atmospheric thermobalance with wood chip, lignite, bituminous, anthracite, pet-coke. The effects of gasification temperature($600{\sim}850^{\circ}C$) and partial pressure of steam(30~90 kPa) on the gasification rate have been investigated. The modified volumetric reaction model was applied to the experimental data to describe the behavior of carbon conversion and to evaluate the needed kinetic parameters. Lignite and wood chip with high volatile content showed high average gasification rates comparing to other fuel and thus they might be proper fuel for gasification processes. The activation energies for wood chip, lignite, bituminous, anthracite, and pet-coke through Arrhenius plot were found to be 260.3, 167.9, 134.6, 82.2, 168.9 kJ/mol, respectively. The expression of apparent reaction rates for steam gasification of various chars have been proposed as basic information for the design of coal gasification processes.
