Numerical Prediction of Steady and Unsteady Performances of Contrarotating Propellers

  • This paper describes the procedure to predict steady and unsteady performances of a contrarotating propeller(CRP) by a mixed formulation of the boundary value problem(BVP) far the flow around a CRP. The blade BVP is treated by a classical vortex lattice method, whereas the hub BVP is solved by a potential-based panel method. Blades and trailing wakes are represented by a vortex and/or source lattice system, and hubs are represented by normal dipole and source distributions. Both forward and aft propellers are solved simultaneously, thus treating the interaction effect without iteration. The unsteady performance is computed directly in time domain. The new numerical procedure requires a large amount of storage and computing time, which is however no longer a limit in a modern computer system. Sample computations show that the steady performance compares very well with the experiments. The predicted unsteady behavior shows that the dominant harmonics of the total forces are multiples of not only the number of blades of the forward and aft propellers but also the product of both blade numbers. The magnitude of the latter harmonics, present also in uniform oncoming flow, may reach abort 50% of the mean torque for the aft propeller, which in turn may cause a serious vibration problem in the complicated contrarotating shafting system.

  • This paper suggests the techniques in determining the values of the steady-state equivalent circuit parameters of a three-phase induction machine using genetic algorithm. The parameter estimation procedure is based on the steady-state phase current versus slip and input power versus slip characteristics. The propose estimation algorithm is of non-linear kind based on selection in genetic algorithm. The machine parameters are obtained as the solution of a minimization of objective function by genetic algorithm. Simulation shows good performance of the propose procedures.

  • The performance of the ultra-precision machine tools depends on the steady state characteristics of the main spindle bearings. For excluding the effect of machining error with perpendicularity, conical or spherical bearing has been used. In this paper, steady analysis of the externally pressurized conical gas bearing for ultraprecision is carried out based on the direct numerical method with assumption of point source. As a result of theoretical analysis, design parameters for optimal condition of conical gas bearing are' presented in dimensionless form.

  • This paper proposes a sequential procedure which can be used to determine a truncation point and run length to reduce or remove bias owing to artificial startup conditions in simulations aimed at estimating steady-state behavior. It is based on the idea of Lyapunov exponent in chaos theory. The performance measures considered are relative bias, coverage, estimated relative half-width of the confidence interval, and mean amount of deleted data.

  • In this study, two stage transfer line with limited repair capability is modeled to formulate optimal dynamic repair priority policy. The method of Markov Chains is used to analyze the analytical model of this line. An efficient algorithm is developed, utilizing the block tridiagonal structure of the transition probability matrix, to obtain the steady state probabilities and system performance measures, such as the steady state production rate of the line and the average in-process inventory in the interstage buffer.

  • In this paper the steady-state genetic algorithm is applied for the optimal design of fuzzy PID controllers. Basically the structure of the discussed fuzzy PID controller is extended from the conventional fuzzy PI and PD controllers where only a two-dimensional rule base of the fuzzy PID controller are designed simultaneously. Simulations results shows the superior performance of this optimal designed fuzzy PID controllers to the optimal designed conventional fuzzy PI and PD controllers.

2차원 정상상태 전열해석을 통한 교육시설의 알루미늄 창호 열관류율 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Evaluation of Thermal Transmittance Performance of Aluminum Alloy Window Frame of Educational Facility considering 2 Dimensional Steady-state Heat Transfer)

  • 본 연구에서는 대학 캠퍼스의 기존 교육시설에 설치된 알루미늄 합금 창의 2차원 정상상태 전열해석을 통한 열관류율(U-value) 평가를 수행하였다. 교육시설의 주요 창호 재료로 적용된 알루미늄은 열전도율이 175 $kca{\ell}/m^2h^{\circ}C$ 정도로 플라스틱 소재의 창틀과 비교할 때, 매우 불리하여 기존 교육시설에 설치된 알루미늄 창호는 열교를 통한 열손실의 주요인으로 지적되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 점에 착안하여 충남 서산지방에 위치한 대학건물의 알루미늄 알로이 합금 창호의 열관류율 평가에 관한 연구를 수행하여 다음의 해석 결과를 도출하였다. (1) 2차원 정상상태 전열해석을 위한 경계조건은 국토해양부고시 건축물 에너지절약설계기준의 남부지방 냉난방장치의 용량계산을 위한 설계 외기온 기준과 실내온도 기준을 적용하여 여름철 실내 $27^{\circ}C$, 실외 $31.3^{\circ}C$, 겨울철 실내 $21.0^{\circ}C$, 실외 $-9.6^{\circ}C$ 로 설정하고 시물레이션을 통한 해석 결과 열관류율은 알루미늄 합금 창호 U= 9.631 W/$m^2K$, 복층유리 U= 2.382 W/$m^2K$로 여름철과 겨울철 동일한 해석 결과치가 산출되었다. (2) 열관류율 해석결과를 "건축물의 에너지절약설계기준"의 열교차단재가 적용되지 않은 금속제 창의 단열성능 중 일반 복층창 단열성능기준인 U=4.0 W/$m^2K$와 비교할 때, 알루미늄 창틀을 통하여 225%의 열손실이 발생됨을 보여 주고 있다.

  • This paper is focused on the formulation of explicit closed-form functions describing the performance measures of the general flexible manufacturing system (FMS)according to the strategy of material handling system(MHS). the performance measures such as the production rate, the production lead-time and the utilization rate of the general FMS are expressed, respectively, as the explicit closed-form functions of the part processing time, the service rate of the material handling system (MHS) and the number of machine tools in the FMS. For this, the gensral FMS is presented as a generalized stochastic Petri net model, then, the moment generating function (MGF) based approach is applied to obtain the steady-state probabity formulation. Based on the steady-state formulation, the explicit closed-form functions for performance measures of the probability FMS can be obtained. Finally, the analytical results are compared with the Petri net simulation results to verify the validity of the suggested method. The paper is of significance in the sense that it provides a comprehensive formula for performance measures of the FMS even to the industry engineers and academic reademic resuarchers who have no background on Markov chain analysis method or Petrinet modeling

스마트 무인기 추진기관의 천이 모사 프로그램 개발 (Development of Transient Simulation Program for Smart UAV Propulsion System)

  • 스마트 무인기의 엔진은 터보 축 엔진이지만 추진계통 제어는 회전익 항공기와 고정익 항공기에 필요한 특성을 모두 가져야 한다. 향후 전자식 엔진제어기를 개발하기 위해서는 틸트 로터 항공기의 엔진 운용 경험과 데이터를 축적할 필요가 있다. 이를 위해 정상상태 및 천이 상태에서의 엔진성능을 예측할 수 있는 프로그램을 활용하여 비행시험 데이터를 보완할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 비행시험으로부터 수집한 엔진성능 데이터를 이용하여 동적 거동 해석 프로그램을 개발하고, 비행시험 결과 및 정상상태 엔진성능예측 프로그램으로 계산한 결과와 비교하여 프로그램의 정확도를 검증하였다.

  • In this study, a simulation tool is developed in order to investigate non steady-state cornering performance of 6WD/6WS special-purpose vehicles. 6WD vehicles are believed to have good performance on off-the-road maneuvering and to have fail-safe capabilities. But the cornering performances of 6WS vehicles are not well understood in the related literature. In this paper, 6WD/6WS vehicles are modeled as a 18 DOF system which includes non-linear vehicle dynamics, tire models, and kinematic effects. Then the vehicle model is constructed into a simulation tool using the MATLAB /SIMULINK so that input/output and vehicle parameters can be changed easily with the modulated approach. Cornering performance of the 6WS vehicle is analyzed for brake steering and pivoting, respectively. Simulation results show that cornering performance depends on the middle-wheel steering as well as front/rear wheel steering. In addition, a new 6WS control law is proposed in order to minimize the sideslip angle. Lane change simulation results demonstrate the advantage of 6WS vehicles with the proposed control law.
