  • In this paper, we consider a decision-theoretic oriented, objective Bayesian inference for the difference between two normal means with known variances. We derive the Bayesian reference criterion as well as the intrinsic estimator and the credible region which correspond to the intrinsic discrepancy loss and the reference prior. We show the similarity between derived two-sample results and the results for the one-sample case in Bernardo(1999).

  • The paper considers some Bayes estimators of the finite population mean with auxiliary information under priors which are scale mixtures of normal, and thus have tail heavier than that of the normal. The proposed estimators are quite robust in general. Numerical methods of finding Bayes estimators under these heavy tailed priors are given, and are illustrated with an actual example.

  • Preference map is a widely used graphical method for the preference data set which is frequently encountered in the field of marketing research. This provides joint configuration usually in two dimensional space between "products" and their "attributes". Whereas the classical preference map adopts the ordinary least squares method in deriving map, the present article suggests the weighted least squares approach providing the better graphical display and interpretation compared to the classical one. Internet search engine data in Korea are analysed for illustration.

  • Detecting outliers in a linear regression model eventually fails when similar observations are classified differently in a sequential process. In such circumstances, identifying clusters and applying certain methods to the clustered data can prevent a failure to detect outliers and is computationally efficient due to the reduction of data. In this paper, we suggest to implement a clustering procedure for this purpose and provide examples that illustrate the suggested procedure applied to the Hadi-Simonoff (1993) method, reverse Hadi-Simonoff method, and Gentleman-Wilk (1975) method.

  • A model used in the past may be altered at will in modeling for the future. For this situation, the multiprocess dynamic model provides a general framework. In this paper we consider the multiprocess discount normal model with parameters having a time dependent non-linear structure. This model has nice properties such as insensitivity to outliers and quick reaction to abrupt changes of pattern.

  • The variance inflation factor can be expressed by the square of the ratio of t-statistics associated with slopes of partial regression and partial residual plots. Disagreement of two sides in the interpretation can be occurred, and we analyze it with some illustrations.

  • A partial amendment of probability and statistics education in Korea has carried out from January, 2007. We have compared between the patial amendment and 7th national mathematics curriculum. Some ideas are proposed to achieve goals of the revision; textbooks of mathematics are well supervised by well-trained statisticians and teachers are periodically trained for the statistical knowledge.

  • We consider M/M/1 feedback queues with multi-class customers. We assume that different classes of customers have different arrival rates, service rates and feedback probabilities. Using the h-transforms of McDonald(999) we derive an importance sampling estimator for an overflow probability that the total number of customers in the system reaches a high level before emptying.
