  • Present research target to develop the procedure of long-term fatigue analysis of the structural details near the upper rolling chock of IMO type B tank by using the time domain modal analysis technique where both the contact and friction behavior can be accurately simulated. In order to perform the time domain analysis focused on the contact and friction, the entire model of the hull and tank was condensed with DOF reduction technique, which is obtained by transforming the global finite element model into its quasi-static modal coordinate. Modal analysis using the quasi-static deformation modes is chosen as a cost effective time domain simulation method and this is based on the fact that the structural response of the tank is quasi-static. Based on the developed cost effective time domain simulation method, the long-term fatigue analysis procedure for the structural details near the rolling chock and key of independent type tank is targeted to be established. The developed fatigue assessment procedure takes into account, wave induced stress and both contact and friction induced stress without loss of accuracy.

연성하중해석을 통한 위성구조체의 구조안정성 검증 연구 (A Study on the Verifying Structural Safety of Satellite Structure by Coupled Load Analysis)

  • 인공위성 구조체는 발사환경과 궤도환경하에서 탑재체 및 여러 구동기 등을 안전하게 지지할 수 있도록 설계되어야 한다. 위성체의 형상설계가 이루어지면 상세설계를 위하여 발사체에서 공급하는 규격에 의한 준정적하중을 사용하여 구조해석을 수행한다. 이 때 준정적하중을 이용하여 설계된 위성체의 구조 건정성을 확인하기 위하여 발사체 업체는 위성체와 발사체를 연성한 후 연성하중해석을 수행한다. 현재 개발중인 위성체의 경우, 연성하중해석을 수행하기 위하여 위성체 모델을 Craig-Bampton 모델로 축약한 후, 발사체 제작업체로 전달하였다. 발사체 제작업체에서는 위성체 모델과 발사체 모델을 이용하여 연성하중해석을 수행하였으며, 가속도 결과와 변위결과를 계산하여 이를 전달하였다. 전달받은 가속도 결과와 변위결과로부터 위성체는 안전하게 설계되었으며, 위성체 내/외부에서 간섭이나 충돌의 위험성이 없다는 것을 확인하였다.

Evaluating the accuracy of mass scaling method in non-linear quasi-static finite element analysis of RC structures

  • The non-linear static analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) structures using the three-dimensional (3D) finite element method is a time-consuming and challenging task. Moreover, this type of analysis encounters numerical problems such as the lack of convergence of results in the stages of growth and propagation of cracks in the structure. The time integration analysis along with the mass scaling (MS) technique is usually used to overcome these limitations. Despite the use of this method in the 3D finite element analysis of RC structures, a comprehensive study has not been conducted so far to assess the effects of the MS method on the accuracy of results. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of the MS method in the non-linear quasi-static finite element analysis of RC structures. To this aim, different types of RC structures were simulated using the finite element approach based on the implicit time integration method and the mass scaling technique. The influences of effective parameters of the MS method (i.e., the allowable values of increase in the mass of the RC structure, the relationship between the duration of the applied load and fundamental vibration period of the RC structure, and the pattern of applied loads) on the accuracy of the simulated results were investigated. The accuracy of numerical simulation results has been evaluated through comparison with existing experimental data. The results of this study show that the achievement of accurate structural responses in the implicit time integration analyses using the MS method involves the appropriate selection of the effective parameters of the MS method.

Quasi-static Analysis on the Effect of the Finite Metal with the Anisotropic Grooved Dielectric in Microstrip Lines

  • In this paper, we presented the quasi-static characteristics of novel microstrip lines with anisotropic grooved dielectric in finite metal. A quasi-static mode-matching method has been used to analyze this new structure and the simulation results are validated through comparison with other available results. The results in this paper show that it is possible to control the propagation characteristics of microstrip lines with the use of anisotropic grooved dielectric in finite metal. Also anisotropic grooved dielectric in microstrip line can be newly added to the design parameters of high performance three dimensional monolithic microwave circuits and other microwave applications.

  • To achieve high precision cutting as well as production capability in the machine tool, it is needed to develop excellent rigidity statically, dynamically and thermally as well. In order to predict the qualitative behavior of a machine tool, simultaneous analysis of mechanics and heat transfer is required. Generally, machine tool designers have solved designing problems based on partial estimation of the specified rigidity. This study clears the inter-relationship between therm, and propose multi-phase optimization of machine tool structure using a genetic algorithm. The multi-phase solution method is consists of a series of mechanical design problem. At this first phase of static design problem, multi-objective optimization for the purpose of minimization of the total weight and static compliance minimization is solved using the Pareto Genetic Algorithm.

동하중을 받는 구조물의 등가정하중 기반 구조 최적화 연구 (Study on the Structural Optimization based on Equivalent Static Load under Dynamic Load)

  • 현실세계의 구조물은 대부분 동하중의 영향을 받고 있지만, 구조해석이나 구조 최적화를 수행할 때는 정하중이 작용하는 것으로 가정한다. 실제 하중인 동하중을 고려하게 되면 다양한 하중들을 고려해야 하기 때문에 전산자원과 시간비용 측면에서 많은 제약이 따르기 때문이다. 그러나, 단순한 정하중 조건만을 고려하면 구조안전성 측면에서 바람직하지 못하기 때문에 가중치를 적용하거나 동하중을 대체하는 등가정하중을 적용하여 관련 문제를 보완하려는 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 등가정하중을 적용하여 동하중을 받고 있는 구조물에 대한 구조최적화 기법을 제안한다. 본 연구에서 적용하는 등가정하중은 기존 연구에서 제안한 바 있는 주자유도를 기반으로 하여 등가정하중 부과 위치를 결정하고 최적화 과정을 통해 산출한다. 이 과정에서 지나치게 큰 하중이 구해지지 않도록 가중치를 고려한 구속조건을 추가하여 기존 연구의 등가정하중의 최적화 과정을 보완하였다. 수치예제에서는 동하중이 작용하는 트러스 구조물과 평판 구조물에서 최적화된 등가정하중을 적용하여 사이즈 최적화를 수행함으로써 제안된 최적화 기법의 신뢰성을 검증한다.

문형머시닝센터의 구조해석을 통한 최적화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Optimization for Static Characteristics Analysis of Gantry-Type Machining Centers)

  • Recently, as the demand for high efficiency, multi-function machine tools has increased, domestic machine tool industries are investing in research and development for Gantry-Type Machining centers. In this thesis, for the purpose of evaluating machining accuracy and designing a machine tool structure, a simplified model of the main frame is suggested. The results show the general characteristics of the optimum design, and the approach is shown as practicable for the preliminary design analysis and improvement of a conceptual design of a Gantry-Type Machining center. This paper's results are expected to improve the static characteristics of Gantry-Type Machine centers. The three-dimensional finite element models proved that the modeling method might be applied to real machine tool structures.

Numerical analysis of a long-span bridge response to tornado-like winds

  • This study focused on the non-synoptic, tornado-like wind-induced effects on flexible horizontal structures that are extremely sensitive to winds. More specifically, the nonuniform, intensive vertical wind-velocity and transient natures of tornado events and their effects on the global behavior of a long-span bridge were investigated. In addition to the static part in the modeling of tornado-like wind-induced loads, the motion-induced effects were modeled using the semi-empirical model with a two-dimensional (2-D) indicial response function. Both nonlinear wind-induced static analysis and linear aeroelastic analysis in the time domain were conducted based on a 3-D finite-element model to investigate the bridge performance under the most unfavorable tornado pattern considering wind-structure interactions. The results from the present study highlighted the important effects due to abovementioned tornado natures (i.e., nonuniform, intensive vertical wind-velocity and transient features) on the long-span bridge, and hence may facilitate more appropriate wind design of flexible horizontal structures in the tornado-prone areas.

평판형 주름판넬에 대한 등가 연속체 모델링기법 (Equivalent Continuum Modeling Methods for Flat Corrugated Panels)

  • The corrugated panels are the prime candidate structure for the floor, roof and wall of Korean high speed train. The equivalent continuum modeling approach panels can be used for the efficient design and evaluation of their structural characteristics. The equivalent continuum models, derived from the true complex corrugated panels, should have the same structural behavior as the original structures have. This paper briefly reviews three representative continuum modeling methods: the static analysis method and two plate-models based on modal analysis methods (MAM). These methods are evaluated through some numerical examples by comparing the natural frequencies and static deflections. It is observed that the plate-model based on Rayleigh-Ritz method seems to provide the best results when used in conjunction with the cantilever-type boundary conditions. The equivalent elastic constants of various corrugated panels, depending on the changes in their configurations, are tabulated for efficient use in structural design.

소형 항공기 미익부 구조 건전성 평가에 관한 연구 (Study on Evaluation of Structural Integrity for Small Aircraft Tail)

  • Structural integrity evaluation is important item in the aircraft certification. Recently, it is designed for limit load, material weakness about fatigue and corrosion, damage by bird strike in flight to evaluate structural integrity of aircraft. And static/fatigue analysis are performed to secure structural integrity, it was verified by static and fatigue tests. To evaluate the structural integrity of small aircraft tail, structural integrity was calculated by the finite element analysis. In the present study, finite element analysis are performed to pick out load cases in flight occurrence, and secure margin of safety to evaluate structural integrity of KC-100 tail unit. The proprieties of finite element analysis results are compared with the static structure test results. The estimation process of structural integrity for small aircraft tail may help the design.
