A series of parametric study was performed for the investigation on the influence of analysis parameters to the solution behavior in the elastic-plastic-static analysis of several sheet metal forming processes, such as deflection by a point force under plane strain and axisymmetric conditions, plane strain bending by a punch, axisymmetric stretching by a punch, axisymmetric bulging by hydraulic pressure, and axisymmetric deep drawing by a punch. The parameters considered are kind of element, number of elements, integration scheme for elemental equation and friction coefficient. Results obtained for different selections of those parameters were compared with each other, experimental measurements and analytical solution.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear behavior of reinforced concrete beams according to small shear span-depth ratio between a/d=1.5, 2.8, 3.6. In general, shear strength of reinforced concrete beams is dependent on the compressive strength of concrete the longitudinal steel ratio, the shear span-depth ratio and shear reinforcement. The static test was carried out to measure the ultimate load, the initial load of flexural and diagonal cracking, crack patterns, fracture modes. The load versus strain and load versus deflection relations were obtained from the static test. The test results on shear strength were compared with results obtained by the formulas of ACI code 318-95. The shear strength of reinforced concrete beams exceeded those predicted following present ACI code 318-95(11-6).

This article presents a comprehensive static analysis of simply supported cross-ply carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (CNTRC) laminated nanobeams under various loading profiles. The nonlocal strain gradient constitutive relation is exploited to present the size-dependence of nano-scale. New higher shear deformation beam theory with hyperbolic function is proposed to satisfy the zero-shear effect at boundaries and parabolic variation through the thickness. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), as the reinforced elements, are distributed through the beam thickness with different distribution functions, which are, uniform distribution (UD-CNTRC), V- distribution (FG-V CNTRC), O- distribution (FG-O CNTRC) and X- distribution (FG-X CNTRC). The equilibrium equations are derived, and Fourier series function are used to solve the obtained differential equation and get the response of nanobeam under uniform, linear or sinusoidal mechanical loadings. Numerical results are obtained to present influences of CNTs reinforcement patterns, composite laminate structure, nonlocal parameter, length scale parameter, geometric parameters on center deflection ad stresses of CNTRC laminated nanobeams. The proposed model is effective in analysis and design of composite structure ranging from macro-scale to nano-scale.

Most of mechanical structures are composed of many substructures connected to one another by various types of mechanical joints. In automotive engineering, it is important to study these connected structures under various dynamic forces for the evaluations of fatigue life and stress concentration exactly. In this study, the dynamic response of vehicle structure to external forces is classified an inverse problem involving strains from the experiment and the analysis. The practical dynamic forces are determined by the combination of the analytical and experimental method with analyzed strain by quasi-static finite element analysis under unit force and with measured strain by a strain gage under driving load, respectively. In a stressed body, inter-molecular chemical bonds are failed beyond the certain magnitude. The failure of molecular structure in material is considered as a time process of which rate is determined by mechanical stress. That is, the failure of inter-molecular chemical bonds is the fatigue lift of material. This kinetic concept is expressed as lethargy coefficient. And S-N curve is obtained with the lethargy coefficient from quasi-static tensile test. Equivalent practical dynamic force is obtained from the identification of practical dynamic force for one loading point. Using the practical dynamic force and S-N curve, fatigue life of a window pillar is analyzed with FEM under the identified force by the procedure of above mentioned.
This paper examines the blood chamber of a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) under static loading conditions and standard operating temperatures. The LVAD's walls are made of a temperature-sensitive polymer (ChronoFlex C 55D) and are covered with a titanium nitride (TiN) nano-coating (deposited by laser ablation) to improve their haemocompatibility. A loss of cohesion may be observed near the coating-substrate boundary. Therefore, a micro-scale stress-strain analysis of the multilayered blood chamber was conducted with FE (finite element) code. The multi-scale model included a macro-model of the LVAD's blood chamber and a micro-model of the TiN coating. The theories of non-linear elasticity and elasto-plasticity were applied. The formulated problems were solved with a finite element method. The micro-scale problem was solved for a representative volume element (RVE). This micro-model accounted for the residual stress, a material model of the TiN coating, the stress results under loading pressures, the thickness of the TiN coating and the wave parameters of the TiN surface. The numerical results (displacements and strains) were experimentally validated using digital image correlation (DIC) during static blood pressure deformations. The maximum strain and stress were determined at static pressure steps in a macro-scale FE simulation. The strain and stress were also computed at the same loading conditions in a micro-scale FE simulation.
The crashworthiness of vehicles with finite element methods depends on the geometry modeling and the material properties. The vehicle body structures are generally composed of various members such as frames, stamped panels and deep-drawn parts from sheet metals. In order to ensure the impact characteristics of auto-body structures, the dynamic behavior of sheet metals must be examined to provide the appropriate constitutive relation. In this paper, high strain-rate tensile tests have been carried out with a tension type split Hopkinson bar apparatus specially designed for sheet metals. Experimental results from both static and dynamic tests with the tension split Hopkinson bar apparatus are interpolated to construct the Johnson-Cook and a modified Johnson-Cook equation as the constitutive relation, that should be applied to simulation of the dynamic behavior of auto-body structures. Simulation of auto-body structures has been carried out with an elasto-plastic finite element method with explicit time integration. The stress integration scheme with the plastic predictor-elastic corrector method is adopted in order to accurately keep track of the stress-strain relation for the rate-dependent model accurately. The crashworthiness of the structure with quasi-static constitutive relation is compared to the one with the rate-dependent constitutive model. Numerical simulation has been carried out for frontal frames and a hood of an automobile. Deformed shapes and the Impact energy absorption of the structure are investigated with the variation of the strain rate.
Reinforced concrete (RC) does not provide sufficient resistance against impacts and blast loads, and the brittle structure of RC fails to protect against fractures due to the lack of shock absorption. Investigations on improving its resistance against explosion and impact have been actively conducted on high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (HPFRCCs), such as fiber-reinforced concrete and ultra-high-performance concrete. For these HPFRCCs, however, tensile strength and toughness are still significantly lower compared to compressive strength due to their limited fiber volume fraction. Therefore, in this study, the tensile behavior of slurry-infiltrated fiber-reinforced cementitious composites (SIFRCCs), which can accommodate a large number of steel fibers, was analyzed under static and dynamic loading to improve the shortcomings of RC and to enhance its explosion and impact resistance. The fiber volume fractions of SIFRCCs were set to 4%, 5%, and 6%, and three strain rate levels (maximum strain rate: 250 s-1) were applied. As a result, the tensile strength exceeded 15 MPa under static load, and the dynamic tensile strength reached a maximum of 40 MPa. In addition, tensile characteristics, such as tensile strength, deformation capacity, and energy absorption capacity, were improved as the fiber volume fraction and strain rate increased.
The main goal of this article is to develop the finite element formulation based on the nonlocal strain gradient and the refined higher-order deformation theory employing a new function f(z) to investigate the static bending and free vibration of functionally graded porous (FGP) nanobeams. The proposed model considers the simultaneous effects of two parameters: nonlocal and strain gradient coefficients. The nanobeam is made by FGP material that exists in un-even and logarithmic-uneven distribution. The governing equation of the nanobeam is established based on Hamilton's principle. The authors use a 2-node beam element, each node with 8 degrees of freedom (DOFs) approximated by the C1 and C2 continuous Hermit functions to obtain the elemental stiffness matrix and mass matrix. The accuracy of the proposed model is tested by comparison with the results of reputable published works. From here, the influences of the parameters: nonlocal elasticity, strain gradient, porosity, and boundary conditions are studied.

In this task, the tool dynamometer design and manufacture, and the Ansys S/W structural analysis program for tool attachment that satisfies the cutting force measurement requirements of the tool dynamometer system are used to determine the cutting force generated by metal cutting using 3-axis static structural analysis and the LabVIEW system. The cutting power in a cutting process using a milling tool for processing metals provides useful information for understanding the processing, optimization, tool status monitoring, and tool design. Thus, various methods of measuring cutting power have been proposed. The device consists of a strain-gauge-based sensor fitted to a new design force sensing element, which is then placed in a force reduction. The force-sensing element is designed as a symmetrical cross beam with four arms of a rectangular parallel line. Furthermore, data duplication is eliminated by the appropriate setting the strain gauge attachment position and the construction of a suitable Wheatstone full-bridge circuit. This device is intended for use with rotating spindles such as milling tools. Verification and machining tests were performed to determine the static and dynamic characteristics of the tool dynamometer. The verification tests were performed by analyzing the difference between strain data measured by weight and that derived by theoretical calculations. Processing test was performed by attaching a tool dynamometer to the MCT to analyze data generated by the measuring equipment during machining. To maintain high productivity and precision, the system monitors and suppresses process disturbances such as chatter vibration, imbalances, overload, collision, forced vibration due to tool failure, and excessive tool wear; additionally, a tool dynamometer with a high signal-to-noise ratio is provided.

A method for accurate measurement of the contact force in the current collection system of the high-speed railway is developed. In order to measure the contact force with minimal modifications to the pantograph, strain gauges are attached to the bottom of the contact strip. An algorithm for deriving the magnitude and stagger of the contact force from the bending strain measurements is devised. For the sample pantograph, the static contact forces are measured to within ${\pm}$5 % error for the magnitude and ${\pm}$ 2cm error for the stagger. For dynamic contact force measurement, it is found that the contact strip can the regarded as a rigid body for the contact frequency of less than 15 ㎐.
