  • When the wind turbine is used in cold regions, the mechanical properties and dimension stability of the blade will be changed. The proposal of this paper is to test the durability of the blade for wind turbine. It is necessary to select the most comfortable materials and fabrication processes for more stable wind turbine blade in cold regions. To select the most comfortable materials and processes, the static strength has to know through the tensile static tests at the severe condition as cold regions. First, the tensile static specimens made by RIM (Resin injection molding) process & vacuum bagging process with reinforcement materials and resin. Tensile static tests were carried out on three laminate lay-ups (carbon prepreg, carbon fiber dry fabric and glass fiber dry fabric) at different test temperature($24^{\circ}$, $-30^{\circ}$), determining properties such as the mechanical strength, stiffness and strain to failure. At different test temperature, in order to test the tensile strengths of these specimens used the low temperature chamber. Next, the results of this test were compared with each other. Finally, the most comfortable materials and fabrication processes can select based on these results. The results show the changes in the static behavior of three laminate lay-ups at different test temperatures. At low temperatures, the static strengths are higher than the ones at room temperature.

  • Effect of spherodization of cementite on static and dynamic deformation behaviors of SCM415 steels was investigated in this study. Dynamic torsional test was conducted using torsional Kolsky bar with the strain rate of $1.6{\times}10^3/s$. Three type of specimens were used with different spherodization degree of cementite. Dynamic test results were analyzed comparing with static tensile results and microstructural changes. The obtained results are as follows; 1) All the specimens of static and dynamic tests showed a ductile fracture mode of dimple. Specimens of the dynamic test showed adiabatic shear bands on the beneath of fracture surface. 2) In static tensile test, decreased tensile strength and increased uniform and non-uniform elongations appeared as spherodization degree of cementite increased. 3) In dynamic torsional test, decreased shear strength and increased uniform elongation appeared as spherodization degree of cementite increased. 4) Due to the largest uniform elongation, superior cold forgeability at high speed is expected on high spherodization degree of cementite.

  • This paper presents a study on the crashworthiness of the scaled-down stiffened panels used on a Korean icebreaker. In order to validate the crashworthiness of the panels, this paper provides various mechanical properties such as the results of a CVN test, quasi-static tensile test, and high-speed tensile test at arctic temperatures. Two types of steels (EH32 and FH32) were chosen for the material tests. CVN tests revealed that the two steels were equivalent up to −60℃ in terms of their impact energy absorption capacity. However, the toughness of FH32 was significantly superior to that of EH32. EH32 showed slightly higher flow stresses at all temperature levels compared to FH32. The improvement ratios of the yield strengths, tensile strengths, plastic hardening exponents, etc. for FH32, which were obtained from quasi-static tensile tests, showed an apparent ascending tendency with a decrease in temperature. Dynamic tensile test results were obtained for the two temperatures levels of 20℃ and −60℃ with two plastic strain rate levels of 1 s−1 and 100 s−1. A closed form empirical formula proposed by Choung et al. (2011;2013) was shown to be effective at predicting the flow stress increase due to a strain rate increase.

  • Several in-situ testing methods of adhesively bonded joints under static short-time tensile loading are critically analyzed in terms of experimental procedure and data evaluation. Due to its rather homogeneous stress state across the glue line, the tensile-shear test with thick single-lap specimens, according to ISO 11003-2, has become the most important test process for the determination of realistic materials parameters. This basic method, which was improved in both, the experimental part by stepped adherends and easily attachable extensometers and the evaluation procedure by numeric substrate deformation correction and test simulation based on the finite element method (FEM), is therefore demonstrated by application to several kinds of adhesives and metallic adherends. Multi-axial load decreases the strength of a joint. This effect, which is illustrated by an experimental comparison, impedes the derivation of realistic mechanical characteristics from measured force-displacement curves. It is shown by numeric modeling that tensile-shear tests with thin plate substrates according to ISO 4587, which are widely used for quick industrial quality assurance, reveal an inhomogeneous stress state, especially because of relatively large adherend deformation. Complete experimental determination of the elastic properties of bonded joints requires independent measurement of at least two characteristics. As the thick-adherend tensile-shear test directly yields the shear modulus, the tensile butt-joint test according to ISO 6922 represents the most obvious complement of the test programme. Thus, validity of analytical correction formulae proposed in literature for the derivation of realistic materials characteristics is verified by numeric simulation. Moreover, the influence of the substrate deformation is examined and a FEM correction method introduced.

  • This study makes a relative comparison of the results of tensile test and quasi-static analysis using AGL(Adjuster Guide Loop) model that plays a role in adjusting the height of shoulder belt, of the components of the vehicle seatbelt system and attempts to propose a method of reducing the error rate of the quasi-static analysis technique effectively. This study selects two major factors affecting the result of an analysis, draws the result of analysis through the method of experimental design, one of the statistical techniques and understands the contribution rate of the major factors affecting the result of the analysis through ANOVA(Analysis of Variance).

  • Evaluation of fatigue strength on the spot welded part is very important for strength design of spot welded steel structures. In this paper, we could get the life cycle of the spot welded part using the lethargy coefficient obtained through the quasi-static tensile shear test for the specimen welded by current 10kA. The reliability evaluation of the life cycle is completed by comparing the life cycle calculated under the constant loading rate with the life cycle obtained by dynamic fatigue test. And then the result calculated by the lethargy coefficient is verified through the lift cycle calculated using the dynamic final tensile stress formula under the increased loading speed. This way can make save the time and cost in processing of predicting the life cycle of a structure.

  • This paper presents results on static and cyclic loading tests of anchorage system for externally prestressed CFRP plate. A total of 6 specimens have been tested. The specimens can be classified into the concrete surface specimens and the concrete near surface mounted specimens. Static test results before and after cyclic loading test reveal that anchorage system for externally prestressed CFRP plate has static capacity more than CFRP tensile strength.

  • The rupture of blood vessels in the human brain results in serious pathological and medical problems. In particular, brain hemorrhage and hematomas resulting from impact to the head are a major cause of death. As such, investigating the tensile behavior and rupture of blood vessels in the brain is very important from a medical point of view. In the present study, the tensile characteristics of the blood vessels in the human brain were analyzed using a quasi-static uniaxial tensile test, and the properties of the arteries and veins compared. In addition, to compare the tensile behavior and demonstrate the validity of the experimental results, blood vessels from the legs of pigs were also tested and analyzed. The overall results were in accordance with the histological structures and previous medical reports.

  • The mechanical characteristics of AC4C Aluminum Casting Alloy were investigated by tensile test and impact test. Based on the tensile test' s result, we found that the yield strength of a high speed was about 10% higher than that of a low speed test and the maximum rupture strain mostly occurred in low speed tensile test. The impact energy of curved surface specimen was higher than that of plane surface specimen that can be measured in impact test.
