  • To calculate the vibrations of a tout cable subjected to axial support excitations, a nonlinear relationship of cable force and the support displacement under static situations are employed to depict the quasi-static vibration of the cable. The dynamic components of quasi-static vibration are inputted as "direct loads" to cause the parametric vibrations on the cable. Both the governing equations of motion and deformation compatibility for parametric vibrations are then derived, which indicates the high coupling of cable parametric force and deformation. Numerical solutions, based on the finite difference method, are put forward for the parametric vibrations, which is validated by the finite element method under periodic axial support excitations. For the quasi-static response, the shorter cables are more sensitive to support excitations than longer ones at small cable force. The quasi-static cable force makes the greatest contribution to the total cable force, but the parametric cable force is responsible for the occurrence of cable loosening at large excitation amplitudes. Moreover, this study also revealed that the traditional approach, assuming a linear relationship between quasi-static cable force and axial support displacement, would result in some great error of the cable parametric responses.

  • Generally not only the radial load but also the moment may be applied to the ball bearings for a shaft system. However it has been difficult to determine the static equivalent load because there is the radial static equivalent equation only for the axial and radial force on the bearings. In this paper, the same static equivalent radial load which makes the maximum contact force at the interface between the ball and groove as the applied radial force and moment generate is calculated under the condition that the radial force and the moment are applied to the bearings simultaneously. The relation between the static equivalent load and applied force is studied. Therefore the simple and effective equation for the static equivalent radial load of the radial load and moment is proposed for the deep groove ball bearings.

  • There are many dynamic properties in measured end-milling force. So, it is difficult to predict the real static property of end-milling force. Also the behavior of end-milling force is very complex to predict with the measured one. To extract the static property from measured force, it must be filtered and its problem is closely related to a de-noising one. Also this paper presents alternative de-noising method of end-milling force using wavelet filter bank, based on the wavelet transform and its inverse one. In this paper, by comparing the measured force and its wavelet filtered one, the fundamental end-milling force property after wavelet transform is well reviewed and analyzed. This result of wavelet filtering with filter bank shows the static force of end-milling which has severe dynamic properties occurring in entry and exit state of edge emersion into the workpiece.

  • This paper presents the experimental study of the static stiffness for the BT Shank(7/24 Long Taper) and the HSK Tool Shank(1/10 Short taper). The static stiffness test was performed under different experimental conditions. The results obtained are as follows ; As known in the analysis results of the Load-Deflection diagram of the 7/24 Test tool shank, it is turned out that the diagram is a linear characteristics without regard to axial drawing force and according as the axial drawing force get to the 6kN, the static stiffness of the shank increase linearly. Thus the effective axial drawing force which maintains the static stiffness of the Main spindle taper of Machine Tool is larger than 6kN. It is found that the Load-Deflection diagram with 6kN of drawing force in the 1/10 Test tool shank is characterized by non-linear. But according as the axial drawing force is increasing by the 8kN, the diagram is characterized by linear. And increasing amount of deflection is about 60%. Therefore commendable axial drawing force is larger than 8kN. As a result, considering that the actual drawing force of the Machining Center is about 1300kgf and axial drawing force 12kN is equivalent amount as a 1220kgf, it is turned out that 1/10 Test tool shank superior to 7/24 Test tool shank in the static stiffness.

  • Using synchronous surface pressures from the wind tunnel test, the three dimensional wind load models of high-rise buildings are established. Furthermore, the internal force responses of symmetric high-rise buildings in along-wind, across-wind and torsional directions are evaluated based on mode acceleration method, which expresses the restoring force as the summation of quasi-static force and inertia force components. Accordingly the calculation methods of equivalent static wind loads, in which the contributions of the higher modes can be considered, of symmetric high-rise buildings in along-wind, across-wind and torsional directions are deduced based on internal forces equivalence. Finally the equivalent static wind loads of an actual symmetric high-rise building are obtained by this method, and compared with the along-wind equivalent static wind loads obtained by China National Standard.

  • Numerical analysis of slope stability is presented using slice method, static seismic analysis methods, and earthquake response analysis methods. Static seismic force is considered as 0.2g while vertical static seismic force is not considered in analysis. For earthquake response analysis, Hachinohe-wave is applied. Safety factor calculated using slice method for failure surface. Calculating methods are Bishop's method and Janhu's method. Static seismic analysis was applied using Mhor-Coulomb model and earthquake response analysis was applied using non-linear elastic model.

  • Static variations of cutting forces are estimated using spindle motor current. Static sensitivity of spindle motor current is higher than feed motor current. The linear relationship between the cutting force and RMS value of the spindle motor current is obtained. Using cutting force estimation, tool overload in milling process can be well detected, and cutting force is regulated at a constant level by feedrate adaptive control.

  • In applications such as MEMS and NEMS devices, the adhesion force and contact load may be of the same order of magnitude and the static friction coefficient can be very large. Such large coefficient may result in unacceptable and possibly catastrophic adhesion, stiction, friction and wear. To obtain the static friction coefficient of contacting real surfaces without the assumption of an empirical coefficient value, numerical simulations of the contact load, tangential force, and adhesion force are preformed. The surfaces in dry contact are statistically modeled by a collection of spherical asperities with Gaussian height distribution. The asperity micro-contact model utilized in calculation (the ZMC model), considers the transition from elastic deformation to fully plastic flow of the contacting asperity. The force approach of the modified DMT model using the Lennard-Jones attractive potential is applied to characterize the intermolecular forces. The effect of the surface topography on the static friction coefficient is investigated for cases rough, intermediate, smooth, and very smooth, respectively. Results of the static friction coefficient versus the external force are presented for a wide range of plasticity index and surface energy, respectively. Compared with those obtained by the GW and CEB models, the ZMC model is more complete in calculating the static friction coefficient of rough surfaces.

  • The development of flexible automation in the manufacturing industry is concerned with production activities performed by unmanned machining system. A major topic relevant to metal-cutting operations is monitoring tool wear, which affects process efficiency and product quality, and implementing automatic tool replacements. In this paper, the measurement of the cutting force components has been found to provide a method for an in-process detection of tool wear. Cutting force components are divided into static and dynamic components in this paper, and the static components of cutting force have been used to detect flank wear. To eliminate the influence of variations in cutting conditions, tools, and workpiece materials, the force modeling is performed for various cutting conditions. The normalized force disparities are defined in this paper, and the relationships between normalized disparity and flank wear are established. Finally, Artificial neural network is used to learn these relationships and detect tool wear. According to the proposed method, the static force components could provide the effective means to detect flank wear for varying cutting conditions in turning operation.
