This paper proposes a cell age model for Penicillium chrysogenum fed-batch cultivation to supply a qualitative insight into morphology-associated dynamics. The average ages of the segregated cell populations, such as growing cells, non-growing cells and intact productive cells, were estimated by this model. A combined model was obtained by incorporating the aver-age ages of the cell sub-populations into a known but modified segregated kinetic model from literature. For simulations, no additional effort was needed for parameter identification since the cell age model has no internal parameters. Validation of the combined model was per-formed by 20 charges of industrial-scale penicillin cultivation. Meanwhile, only two charge-dependent parameters were required in the combined model among approximately 20 parameters in total. The model is thus easily transformed into an adaptive model for a further application in on-line state variables prediction and optimal scheduling.

We provide a method which can calculate nodal-price considering real network state by using state variables on non-optimal condition of power system. And we present a method to provide a detailed description of each nodal price by decomposition of nodal price
Recent researches on control theory enable nonlinear state feedback which is more closer to real system without approximation. To apply nonlinear control theories, all state variables should be measured or estimated. In this paper, a technique of designing nonlinear state observer for a particular class of nonlinear system is presented. The result is applied to an aircraft model to prove the convergency of observation error.
We examined whether the abnormal EEG state by NMDA receptor blocker MK-801 can be reversed by typical and atypical antipsychotics differentially by comparing their spectral profiles after drug treatment in rats. The spectral profiles produced by typical antipsychotics chlorpromazine (5 mg/kg, i.p.) and haloperidol (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) were differ from that by atypical antipsychotic clozapine (5 mg/kg, i.p.) in the rats treated with or without MK-801 treatment (0.2 mg/kg, i.p.) which produce behavioral abnormalities like hyperlocomotion and stereotypy. The dissimilarity between the states produced by antipsychotics and the control state was examined with the distance of the location of the canonical variables calculated by stepwise discriminant analysis with the relative band powers as input variables. Although clozapine produced more different state from normal state than typical antipsychotics, clozapine could reverse the abnormal schizophrenic state induced by MK-801 to the state closer to the normal state than the typical antipsychotics. The results suggest that atypical anesthetic can reverse the abnormal schizophrenic state with negative symptom to the normal state better than typical antipsychotic. The results indicate that the multivariate discriminant analysis using the spectral parameters can help differentiate the antipsychotics with different actions.

This paper deals with precise analytical state equation modeling of a variable speed refrigeration system (VSRS) for optimum control in state space. The VSRS is described as multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) system, which has two controlled variables and two control inputs. First, the Navier-Stokes equation and mass flow rate were applied to each component of the basic refrigeration cycle to build a dynamic model. The dynamic model, represented by a differential equation, was transformed into the state equation formula. Next, a full-order state observer was built to estimate all of the state variables to compose an optimum control system. Then, an optimum controller was designed to minimize an evaluation function that has input energy and control error. Finally, simulations and experiments were conducted to verify the validity of the proposed modeling and designed optimum controller to regulate target temperature and superheat in a 1RT oil cooler system. The results show that the proposed method, state equation modeling and optimum control, is efficient to ensure optimal control performance of the VSRS.

To develop coal gasfication system, many studies have been actively conducted to describe the simulation of steady state. Now, it is necessary to study the gasification system not only in steady state but also in dynamic state to elucidate abnormal condition such as start-up, shut-down, disturbance, and develop control logic. In this study, a model was proposed with process simulation in dynamic state being conducted using a chemical process simulation tool, where a heat and mass transfer model in the gasifier is incorporated, The proposed model was verified by comparison of the results of the simulation with those available from NETL (National Energy Technology Laboratory) report under steady state condition. The simulation results were that the coal gas efficiency was 80.7%, gas thermal efficiency was 95.4%, which indicated the error was under 1 %. Also, the compositions of syngas were similar to those of the NETL report. Controlled variables of the proposed model was verified by increasing oxygen flow rate to gasifier in order to validate the dynamic state of the system. As a result, trends of major process variables were resonable when oxygen flow rate increased by 5% from the steady state value. Coal flow rate to gasifier and quench gas flow rate were increased, and flow rate of liquid slag was also increased. The proposed model in this study is able to be used for the prediction of gasification of various coals and dynamic analysis of coal gasification.
For the efficient use and management of water resources, a reliable rainfall-runoff analysis is necessary. Still, continuous hydrological data and rainfall-runoff data are insufficient to secure through measurements and models. In particular, as part of the reasonable improvement of a rainfall-runoff model in the case of an ungauged watershed, regionalization is being used to transfer the parameters necessary for the model application to the ungauged watershed. In this study, the GR4J model was selected, and the SCEM-UA method was used to optimize parameters. The rainfall-runoff model for the analysis of the correlation between watershed characteristics and parameters obtained through the model was regionalized by the Copula function, and rainfall-runoff analysis with the regionalized parameters was performed on the ungauged watershed. In the process, the intermediate state variables of the rainfall-runoff model were extracted, and the correlation analysis between water level and the ground water level was investigated. Furthermore, in the process of rainfall-runoff analysis, the Standardized State variable Drought Index (SSDI) was calculated by calculating and indexing the state variables of the GR4J model. and the calculated SSDI was compared with the standardized Precipitation index (SPI), and the hydrological suitability evaluation of the drought index was performed to confirm the possibility of drought monitoring and application in the ungauged watershed.
This paper expands empirical research on family satisfaction by introducing the family APGAR scale, developed and validated in the field of nursing, to measure the satisfaction of business-owning families and applying the Stafford et al.(1999) model of sustainable family businesses to the assessment of family satisfaction. More specifically, this study compares the differences in the effects of business- and family-related variables on family satisfaction for the families of lifestyle business owners and earner business owners. The sample was drawn from the 1997 National Family Business Survey. The family satisfaction was greater for the families of lifestyle business owners, but the family variables made a greater contribution to the explanation of variance in the satisfaction of families of earner business owners. The regression equation explained a higher percentage of the variance for the families of earner business owners. Nine family variables were significant in the satisfaction equation for earner business owners, in contrast to seven significant family variables in the equation for lifestyle business owners. Structured families had a significant positive effect on the satisfaction of lifestyle business owners. The family manager's education, putting the family first rather than the business, and the family management score had significant effects on the satisfaction of earner business owners.
Process modeling with activated sludge models (ASMs) is useful for the design and operational improvement of biological nutrient removal (BNR) processes. Effective utilization of ASMs requires the influent fraction analysis (IFA) of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). However, this is difficult due to the time and cost involved in the design and operation steps, thereby declining the simulation reliability. Harmony Search (HS) algorithm was utilized herein to determine the relationships between composite variables and state variables of the model IWA ASM1. Influent fraction analysis was used in estimating fractions of the state variables of the WWTP influent and its application to 9 wastewater treatment processes in South Korea. The results of influent $S_s$ and $Xs+X_{BH}$, which are the most sensitive variables for design of activated sludge process, are estimated within the error ranges of 8.9-14.2% and 3.8-6.4%, respectively. Utilizing the chemical oxygen demand (COD) fraction analysis for influent wastewater, it was possible to predict the concentrations of treated organic matter and nitrogen in 9 full scale BNR processes with high accuracy. In addition, the results of daily influent fraction analysis (D-IFA) method were superior to those of the constant influent fraction analysis (C-IFA) method.
