Staphylinidae (Coleoptera) Fauna of Ulleung-do, Korea

  • Thirty three species in six subfamilies of Staphylinidae are recognized from Ulleung-do through the survey in 2001. Among them, Thirty one species are newly reported from Ulleung-do. Two species, Anotylus lewisius(Sharp) and Megarthrus aino Cuccodoro, are reported for the first time from Korea.

  • The subfamily Micropeplinae Leach belonging to the family Staphylinidae is reported for the first time in Korea with Micropeplus fulvus japonicus Sharp. The photographs of adult and aedeagus are provided.

  • The subfamily Megalopsidiinae Leng belonging to the family Staphylinidae is reported for the first time in Korea based on the discovery of Megolopinus japonicus (Nakane). The photographs of adult, aedeagus and male sternite IX are provided.

  • A new species, Nazeris rutilicorpus, of the subfamily Paederinae is described in Korea. This species is found from dead leaves near streams or forests. The illustrations of labrum, male abdomen and genitalia are presented. The differences between N. rutilicorpus and N. optatus (Sharp) are discussed.

  • A taxonomic study of the genus Oxytelus Gravenhorst in Korea is presented. Seven species are recognized, three of which are identified for the first time in Korea (O. incisus Motschulsky, O. migrator Fauvel, and O. takahashii Ito). A key and diagnostic characters with illustrations are provided.
