  • the exocrine pancreatic secretion is an important factor in the maintenance of zinc homeostasis. The daily pancreatic secretion of zinc into the gastrointestinal tract may be two or more times the daily dietary zinc intake. The objective of this study was to examine the distribution of proteins and zinc in pancreatic/biliary fluid following intraperitoneal {TEX}${65}^Zn${/TEX} injection into dietary prepared Sprague-Dawly rats. Distribution of zinc-binding protein in Sephadex G-75 subfractions showed a peak corresponding to the high molecular weight protein standard(<66kDa) in the pancreatic/biliary fluid. Zinc also was associated with the 29~35kDa mole-cular weight proteins. These are similar in size with zinc-containing enzymes, carboxypeptidase A and car-boxypeptidase B. A more remarkable small molecular weight fraction eluted beyond the 6.5kDa standard pro-tein peak. These results show the presence of small molecular weight compound in pancreatic/biliary fluid associated with zinc . These small molecular weight compounds may serve as zinc-binding ligands for the secretion of enogenous zinc into the duodenum. These findings suggest that these lignads may dissociate zinc in the duodenum thus making it vulnerable to complexation with phytate in the upper gastrointestinal tract rendering the zinc unavailable for reabsorption.

  • 148 male and 153 female college students attitude toward weight control, diet behaviors and food habits were investigated by self questionnaire. Among the students, underweight students were 11.0$\%$, normal weight students were 63.5$\%$ and obese students were 25.6$\%$ by RBW standard, and underweight students were 16.0$\%$, nromal weight students were 70.4$\%$ and obese students were 13.6% by BMI standard. However, more than 10% of male and 38$\%$ of female students thought they were obese even thought their body weight were normal. Female students tended to overeat when they were stressed or in a bad mood and generally all participants had poor scores on the dietary attitudes test, however, male students had significantly higher scores than female students. Female students tended to choose food more for its taste. Collegestudents are in early stage of adult life and their dietary attitudes, food behaviors and life style will continue to their later life. Therefore college students need more good nutrition knowledge, positive dietary attitudes, modified life styles to prevent and treat collegestudents obesity. • The concentrations of the immunological substances in breast milk and nutritional status were studied in healthy Korean women of middle socioeconomic class. The subjects were recruited at random from obstetric clinics in Seoul. The nutrients intake, prepregnancy BMI, maternal weight gain during pregnancy were studied. The concentrations of lactoferrin(LF), lysozyme(LZ), sIgA, IgG and C3 in colostrum, in transitional milk, and in mature milk, were measured. To elucidate the effect of nutritional status on immunological substances, each components was compared on the basis of either BMI, weight gain, or protein intake. The highest concentrations of the substances were found in colostrum and decreased as lactation progressed. The decline was more prominent in IgG, C3 and sIgA, and less significant in LZ and LF. The colostrum of standard weight gain group showed higher concentrations compared to lower weight gain group. This difference became smaller as the lactation progresses. BMI and nutrient intake status had less significant effect. Lower sIgA was found in lower BMI, in lower weight gain, and lower protein intake groups compared to standard groups, which indicates sIgA is the most affected substance among the measured by nutritional status.

  • The complexity and variability of both the biologicals and the bioassays used to test them led to the use of the reference standard- a sample of the product of defined purity and potency, against which all preparations of that product must be calibrated. In order to prepare and establish KFDA reference standard for recombinant human growth hormone (somatropin), somatropin substance was filled in ampoules in National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC). The candidate KFDA reference standard for somatropin (designated as 98/674) was evaluated to determine the suitability of serving as a KFDA reference standard for somatropin by the collaborative study, in which 10 laboratories participated. Physicochemical analysis and in vivo bioassay were performed by direct comparison with the international somatropin standard 88/624. 98/674 was identified as somatropin by SDS-PAGE, IEF, peptide mapping, and HPLC. Determination of somatropin content by SE-HPLC yielded a mean estimate of 2.01 mg somatropin per ampoule. Data from the study also yielded mean values of 0.39 $\pm$ 0.26% for high molecular weight impurities by SE-HPLC and mean values of 2.13 $\pm$ 1.29% for somatropin related proteins by RP-HPLC. Estimates of relative potency by weight gain bioassay in the hypophysectomised rats showed that relative potency of KS 98/674 was 1.07 aganist IS 88/624. Based on the results of the collaborative study, the candidate reference standard for somatropin is suitable to serve as a KFDA reference standard for somatropin.

  • This study has analyzed females' motives and psychological experiences related to appearance-enhancement seeking behavior(weight control practice and cosmetic surgery). In this study, in-depth interviews were carried out to 11 females who had experienced weight control practices and cosmetic surgery in June 2001. There is social standard in ideal body image. One perceive a physical idea and own body through society(mass media, reference group), others and clothing, and recognize the ideal body and internalize the social standard as own worth. The discrepancies between ideal body image internalized as standards of own worth and real body image became a setup for body dissatisfaction. Increasing in body dissatisfaction, rejection of own body grow, furthermore body is perceived with distortion. In order to remove a negative body image and to reach ideal body image, appearance-enhancement seeking behavior such as weight control and cosmetic surgery is made. By appearance enhancing, one come to closer to ideal image of which one pursuit oneself. Therefore body satisfaction feeling increase, self·esteem rise, manner of life and character change to with affirmation. Otherwise, strengthening of appearance-concern and of appearance enhancement seeking desire has the possibility of developing into bulimia and cosmetic surgery addiction. Also, the standard of beauty in appearance rise by degrees, and that produces motives of appearance-enhancement seeking behavior.

  • To evaluate the role of dietary earthworm flour in liver injury by CCl4 treatment, the rats were fed 5% earthworm flour supplemented diet for 53 days and control rats were fed standard diet without earthworm supplementation. Liver damage was induced both in earthworm flour supplemented diet and control groups by two intraperitoneal injections of CCl4 at the level of 0.1$m\ell$/100g body weight(50% in olive oil) at intervals of 16 hours the increasing rate of lover weight/body weight(%) and serum levels of alanine aminotransferase activity to the control group were higher in CCl4-treated rats fed earthworm flour supplemented diet than those fed standard diet. The decreasing rate of hepatic microsomal aniline hydroxylase activity was also higher in rats fed earthworm supplemented rats by the CCl4 treatment, Hepatic glutathione S-transferase activity was sinificantly higher in rats fed earthworm supplemented diet than those fed standard diet. It is concluded that a dietary earthworm flour argument the metabolic rate of CCl in rats.

  • Infants who are born prematurely or with low birth weight should be immunized at the same postnatal chronologic age. They should receive BCG, DTaP, IPV vaccines according to the same recommended schedule as full term infants. Hepatitis B vaccine schedule is modified when hepatitis B vaccine is administered a infant with birth weight less than 2,000 g. The recommended standard dose of each vaccine should be administered. Proportion of children experiencing vaccine-related adverse events dose not differ between full-term and preterm infants. Immunization with routinely recommended childhood vaccines is safe for preterm and low birth weight infants.

  • The filling effects of test cigarettes prepared the different cutting width on the three brands (NC82, Burley21 and 88Light) were compared with their regular cigarette by the value of "Hardness" and "draw ressistance". Results obtained were as follows: 1. With enlargement of the shred width. The hardness of cigarettes became harder than the standard one in the same filling-weight When the shred width enlarged by 0.2mn from standard, the saving rate of tobacco materials would be 4~5%. 2. As the shred width became wider, Long strand was rich and short strand was poor. 3. The enlargement of the shred width may increase the standard deviation of filling-weight of cigarettes in some case.rettes in some case.

  • The object of the study is to propose the control method of FSB(full service brake) for the standard EMU. Recently, the variable control function was applied to train by introducing the TCMS. When the vehicle in the train fails, the emergency brake of the train should be automatically operated. In case of VVVF EMU operated by the TCMS, the FSB is applied to the train for safety instead of emergency brake. When the FSB is applied to train regardless of its weight and the numbers, the train safety operation may not be obstained. Therefore, the FSB force which considers its weight and numbers should be applied to the train. This paper describes the blending brake control for standard EMU. The control algorithm of the FSB is proposed and its simulation was carried out by using MATLAB.
