  • In case of a high-speed D.I. diesel engine. the injected fuel spray is unavoidable that the impinging on the wall of piston cavity and in this case the geometry of piston cavity has a great influence on the atomization structure and air flow fields. In the field of combustion and in many other spray applications, there are clear evidence of correlation between spray structure and emission of pollutants. Ordinary, the combustion chamber of driving engine have unsteady turbulent flow be attendant on such as the change of temperature, velocity and pressure. So the analysis of spray behavior is difficult. In this study, a single spray was impinged on each cavity wall at indicated angle in a quiescent atmosphere at room temperature and pressure, as being the simplest case, and 3 types of piston cavity such as Dish, Toroidal and Re-entrant type was tested for analyzing the influence of cavity geometry. And hot wire probe was used for analyze non-steady flow characteristics of impinging spray, and to investigate the behavior of spray, the aspects of concentration c(t), standard deviation $\sigma(t)$ and variation factor (v.f.) was measured with the lapse of time.

  • This paper studies the discharge capacity of vertical drain boards that is controlling hydraulic gradient among many factors in the specification. The KS K 0940(2008), a testing method based on the conventional Delft type method for measuring the discharge capacity of a vertical drain, was specified in Korea Standard recently. In this test method, the variation in hydraulic gradient can result in large differences in the discharge capacity for the same vertical drain board.

  • In order to understand variation and relationship between standing crops and biomass of phytoplankton dominant species for the long term periods, this study was seasonally investigated in the marine ranching ground of Tongyeong coastal waters from 2000 to 2007. Total 268 taxa representing 217 Bacillariophyceae, 46 Dinophyceae, 4 Dictychophyceae, 1 Euglenophyceae were observed in phytoplankton communities. Dominant species consisted of 5 species as standard in standing crops: Chaetoceros curvisetus (18.01%), Chaetoceros socialis (12.95%), Skeletonema costatum (8.39%), Chaetoceros compressus (6.87%), Asterionellopsis glacialis (5.02%). However, to determine dominant species as biomass concept, Ditylum brightwellii, Guinardia striata, Rhizosolenia spp. and Skeletonema costatum were occupied with dominant species (19.67%). As determining for cell sizes, dominant species were divided with two groups such as micro- and nanophytoplankton (standing crops) and mesophytoplankton (biomass). However, Skeletonema costatum in anophytoplankton was associated to affect fluctuation between standing crops and biomass.

  • The present paper is concerned to the thermal analysis during the cool-down period of 138,000 m$^3$class GTT MARK-III membrane type LNG carrier servicing with LNG from the Middle East to Korea. It is the cool-down period that cools the insulation wall and the gas in LNG tank to avoid the thermal shock as the start of loading of -162$^{\circ}C$ LNG. For six hours of the standard cool-down period, the temperature of NG falls down from -4$0^{\circ}C$ to -13$0^{\circ}C$ and especially the mean temperature of the 1st barrier in the top side insulation wall falls down from -38.38$^{\circ}C$ to -122.42$^{\circ}C$ in case of IMO design condition. By the 3-D numerical calculation about the cargo tank and the cofferdam, the temperature variation in hulls and insulations is precisely predicted in this paper. And the mean temperature variation of gas is calculated as the function of the spraying rate by the heat balance model during the cool-down period.

  • The characteristics of the total ozone variations measured by the ground-based Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer and the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) over Pohang are statistically examined from January 1994 to December 2004. First of all, in the correlation analysis of the total ozone measured from the Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer and the TOMS, the correlation coefficient was 0.88 and the used data were 2190. The annual mean value of the total ozone is 311 DU with the standard deviation of 13 DU. The maximum and the minimum value were found in March (343 DU) and in September (282 DU), respectively. It was also revealed that the longest seasonal variation is in Spring (341 DU) and the smallest is in Autumn (283 DU). The time series data of the total ozone indicates that the annual variation is significant and the variations for three months and six months are relatively weak. Finally, the annual mean total ozones in Pohang (Brewer), Seoul (Brewer) and Busan (TOMS) are 312 DU, 324 DU and 304 DU, respectively.

  • A high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed for the determination of diltiazem (DTZ) and its major metabolite, deacetyldiltiazem (DAD), in rat plasma. DTZ, DAD and imipramine, the internal standard, were selectively fractionated from plasma on a $C_{18}$ reversedphase column $({\mu}-Bondapak,\;10\;{\mu}m\;silica,\;300{\times}3.9\;mm\;ID)$. The composition of the mobile phase was methanol: acetonitrile: 0.04 M ammonium bromide: triethylamine (40:24:36:0.06 in volume). The pH of the mobile phase of their method was lowered to 6.4. The eluents from the column were detected for DTZ and DAD using a UV detector at 237 nm. The recovery was >85% for DTZ and DAD, and average intra-day and inter-day coefficients of variation were <6% for DTZ and DAD at the concentration ranges of 20-1000 ng/ml. Detection limit of DTZ and DAD in plasma was 20 ng/ml with signal-to-noise ratio of 3. This method would be applicable to practical pharmacokinetic studies without detriment to the HPLC column.

  • As the fundamental study of designing x-ray dosimeter , we measured the voltage variation of CdS, II-VI group semiconductor compound, by mAs variation. We obtained data in the condition of 50, 70 kVp, by increasing the tube current as 1, 2, 2.5, 3.2, 4, 5, 10, 20, 32, 50 and 80 mAs. The output time of CdS was increased as mAs increased. We figured the slope value of 50kVp as 0.0088 and 0.0081 of 70 kVp. And by regression method, we obtained the standard deviation of time, Y axis, at 50 and 70kVp as 0.00268 and 0.00333. The result of this ssudy is so important to design x-ray dosimeter.

  • The transmission current in a power cable is determined under the condition of separate pipe cooling. To this end, the thermal analysis is conducted with the standard condition of separate pipe cooling system, which constitutes one of the underground power transmission system. The changes of transmission current in a power cable with respect to the variation of temperatures and flow rates of inlet cooling water as well as the cooling spans are also determined. As a consequnce, the corresponding transmission current is shown to vary within allowable limit, resulting in the linear variation of the current for most of the cable routes. The abrupt changes of current, however, for the given flow rate of inlet cooling water in some cooling span lead to the adverse effects on the smooth current transmission within the underground power transmission system. In practice, it is expected that the desinging of the separate pipe cooling system in conjunction with the evaluation of system capacity should take into account the effects of design condition on the inlet cooling flow rate.

  • This study was to provide the fundamental data for the ease necessary to design clothes by investigating the variation of the upper body surface with the method of surgical tape. The subject were 8 young women in the standard somatotype. In the form of body surface according to arm movements, the shape of armscye circumference became gentle from the sunken form for the standing posture; scye depth became lower; lateral shoulder moved and rose toward the front center as the angle of arm movement became larger; scye depth is greatest in the standing. The items of horizontal ware largest in the standing posture except for front neck base circumference and front interscye breadth for side $90^{\circ}$ movement. In the items of vertical, while most of the front items increased but back ones generally decreased for all movement compared to the standing. After comparing differences in actual values between the form of body surface in the standing posture and the direct measurement, the following ease were suggested considering minimum measures to accommodate daily movements. Bust circumference/2 = 3cm; waist circumference/2 = 1.5cm; front interscye breadth/2 = 0.6cm; back interscye breadth/2 = 0.6cm; and underarm depth = 1.5cm
