  • A numerical study was made to choose the better turbulence model for the flow in the discharge flow path from a diffuser to a wall. In this study standard $\kappa-\epsilon$ model(SKE), RNG $\kappa-\epsilon$ model(RNG), and Reynolds stress model(RSM) were applied. In case of the flow with relatively high Reynolds number at a diffuser inlet, the pressure loss coefficients by RNG have a tendency to be near to those by SKE at small ratio(below about 0.35) of $h/D_o$, but to those by RSM at large ratio(above about 0.35). At large ratio RNG begins to enlarge the effects of rapid strain and streamline curvature. RNG & RSM are recommended as the appropriate turbulence models for this case. But it is noticeable that the velocity gradient pattern in RNG is same as in SKE, and also that the total pressure distribution in RNG is same as in RSM only at swirling flow area, same as in SKE only at main flow area.

  • The paper focuses on the integration of a non-linear one-dimensional model of Synthetic Jet (SJ) actuator in a well-assessed numerical simulation method for turbulent compressible flows. The computational approach is intended to the implementation of a numerical tool suited for flow control simulations with affordable CPU resources. A strong compromise is sought between the use of boundary conditions or zero-dimensional models and the full simulation of the actuator cavity, in view of long-term simulation with multiple synthetic jet actuators. The model is integrated in a multi-domain numerical procedure where the controlled flow field is simulated by a standard CFD method for compressible RANS equations, while flow inside the actuator is reduced to a one-dimensional duct flow with a moving piston. The non-linear matching between the two systems, which ensures conservation of the mass, momentum and energy is explained. The numerical method is successfully tested against three typical test cases: the jet in quiescent air, the SJ in cross flow and the flow control on the NACA0015 airfoil.

  • The present study is concerned with the flow patterns induced by other impellers in a rectangular tank Impellers are FBT(Flat blade turbine), PBT(Pitched blade turbine), Shroud turbine, Rushton Turbine, and Helical ribbon turbine. The solution of flows in moving reference frames requires the use of 'moving' cell zone. The moving zone approaches are MRF(Multiple reference frame), which is a steady-state approximation and Sliding method, which is a unsteady-state approximation. Numerical results using two moving zone approaches are compared with experiments by Ranade & Joshi, which have done extensive LDA measurements of the flow generated by a standard six-bladed Rushton turbine in a cylindrical baffled vessel. In this paper we simulated the flow patterns with above mentioned moving zone approaches and impellers. Turbulence model is RNG k-$\epsilon$ model.

  • Flow through turbomachinery has a very complex structure and is intrinsically unsteady. Especially, recent design trend to turbomachinery with short axial spacing makes the flow extremely complex due to the interaction between stator and rotor. Therefore, it is very necessary to clearly understand the complex flow structure to obtain the high efficiency turbomachinery. So, in this paper, the effects of axial spacing on the unsteady secondary flow performance in the one stage turbine are investigated by three-dimensional unsteady flow analysis. The three-dimensional solver is parallelized using domain decomposition and Message Passing Interface(MPI) standard to overcome the limitation of memory and the CPU time in three-dimensional unsteady calculation. A sliding mesh interface approach has been implemented to exchange flow information between blade rows.

  • Flow oscillations in boiling channels induces a drastic reduction of the (critical heat flux) CHF or premature burnout. However, most of CHF works and correlations have been focused on stable flow conditions without considering flow oscillation. Therefore to improve the understanding on flow oscillation CHF, in this paper a new CHF correction factor to predict the CHF values under flow oscillation conditions has been developed from 126 experimental data. Also to investigate the dominant factor on flow oscillation CHF parametric trends are analyzed by using the developed correction factor. The overall mean accuracy ratio of the developed correction factor is 1.033 with a standard deviation of 0.195. The RMS errors 0.198. Its assessment shows that the predictions agree well with the experimental data within 25% error bounds.

  • Positron emission tomography (PET) serves as a gold standard for noninvasive in vivo measurement of myocardial blood flow (MBF) and coronary flow reserve (CFR). CFR can be defined as the ratio of maximally vasodilated MBF over its basal flow. It is an important parameter for the evaluation of functional severity of coronary stenosis and prognositification in various diseases such as dilated cardiomyopathy. $^{13}NH_3,\;H_2^{15}O,\;^{82}Rb$ are widely used radiopharmaceuticals for measuring MBF and CFR, This review introduces imaging techniques and its clinical utility. Cardiac application or PET and PET/CT is expected to be increased in near future.

  • Purpose Usability is an important factor in our life. This paper presents an approach to design the clinical work-flow for ultrasound system. And, we tried to apply this work-flow in diagnosis ultrasound system. Materials and Methods For user learnability, we follow international standard IEC 60601-1-1 and IEC 62366 which describes usability of medical instrument. User requirement are applied by 10 clinicians who are well aware of usability. We considered user environment and designed clinical work-flow into two types: general use and emergency use. The designed clinical work-flow was evaluated by 10 clinicians and results derived from the evaluation were analyzed. Results We could successfully design optimized clinical workflow of ultrasound system. Conclusion This paper suggests usability testing for optimized ultrasound clinical workflow. Using this clinical work flow, users can enhance their clinical performance and reduce operation time.

  • Numerical study of three-dimensional turbulent flow in a forward curved centrifugal fan is presented. Standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinates arc used to consider the turbulent flow field and complex geometry. Finite Volume approach is adopted for discretization scheme and structured grid system is used to help convergence. Multiblock grid system is used for flow field and divided into five domains that are inlet, outlet, impeller, tip clearance and scroll. It is assumed that the flow field is steady and incompressible. These numerical results are compared with the experimental data inside a rotor and at the fan outlet. Most important flow features are captured through this numerical approach. Finally details of flow field inside a fan are described and analyzed.

  • A cross-flow fan relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice and blades have a forward curved shape. Therefore, the performance of a cross-flow fan is influenced 25% by the impeller, 60% by the rearguider and the stabilizer, 15% by the heat exchanger. At the low flow rate, there exists a rapid pressure head reduction, a noise increase and an unsteady flow against a stabilizer and a rearguider. Moreover, it is difficult to analyze the reciprocal relations of the cross-flow fan because each parameter is independent. Numerical analyses are conducted with different starting angles of the rearguider. Two-dimensional, unsteady governing equations are solved, using FVM, PISO algorithm, sliding grid system and ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ standard turbulence model.

  • The present study has been studied on a thermal and flow characteristic of the microchannel waterblock with flow distributions in each channels. Results of a numerical analysis using the CFX-11 are compared with results of an experiment. Numerical analysis and experiment are conducted under a heat transfer rate of 150W, inlet temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ and mass flow rates of $0.7{\sim}2.0\;kg$/min. Base temperature and pressure drop are investigated with standard deviations of mass flow rates in each channels of samples at 0.7 kg/min.
