Signal-to-Noise Ratio Formulas of a Scalar Gaussian Quantizer Mismatched to a Laplacian Source

  • The paper derives formulas for the mean-squared error distortion and resulting signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio of a fixed-rate scalar quantizer designed optimally in the minimum mean-squared error sense for a Gaussian density with the standard deviation ${\sigma}_q$ when it is mismatched to a Laplacian density with the standard deviation ${\sigma}_q$. The SNR formulas, based on the key parameter and Bennett's integral, are found accurate for a wide range of $p\({\equiv}\frac{\sigma_p}{\sigma_q}\){\geqq}0.25$. Also an upper bound to the SNR is derived, which becomes tighter with increasing rate R and indicates that the SNR behaves asymptotically as $\frac{20\sqrt{3{\ln}2}}{{\rho}{\ln}10}\;{\sqrt{R}}$ dB.

표본크기 결정을 위한 IQR의 활용방법 (Using the Sample IQR for Calculating Sample Size)

  • 표본크기를 결정할 때 모표준편차 $\sigma$의 추정량으로 표본표준편차를 구할 수 없는 경우 범위(R)또는 사분위간 범위(IQR)를 이용하여 $\sigma$의 추정량으로 사용할 수 있다 R과 IQR의 함수로 나타난 추정값은 최소한 95% 이상의 확률로 $\sigma$보다 크거나 같아야 과소 추정됨을 피할 수 있다. 다양한 확률분포로부터 추출된 여러 표본의 범위와 사분위간 범위에 대하여 Browne(2001)이 연구한 추정량 R/4과 본 연구에서 제시한 추정량 IQR이 $\sigma$이상일 확률에 대하여 비교 분석을 하였다. 그리고 표본의 범위와 사분위간 범위를 상수로 나누었을 때 $\sigma$이상일 확률을 가질 수 있는 대안적 인 분모를 각각 구하여 비교 연구하였다.

都市地域의 垂直, 水平 擴散係數 算定 (Evaluation of the Horizontal and Vertical Dispersion Coefficients for the Urban Area)

  • Meteorological Measurement was performed for evaluation of the horizontal vertical standard deviation $(\sigma_y, \sigma_z)$, surface roughness length and stmospheric stability during the period of March to October 1985 The major results are as follows; 1) The average value of surface roughness length was 144cm at NEPI. 2) In frequency distribution of atmospheric stability, neutral state (D class) was dominent in Seoul (29%) and Pusan (30%). Unstable states (A. B. C. class) were 26% in Seoul and 24% in Pusan. Also, stable states (D. E. F class) were 74% in Seoul and 76% in Pusan. 3) Standard deviations of horizontal ad vertical direction were evaluated as a function of downwind distance and atmospheric stability at NEPI, Jamsil and Pujeondong (Pusan). Standard deviation of horizontal direction was largest at NEPI among 3 areas because of mechanical turbulence resulting from difference of surface roughness length.

DFSS에 의한 FPD용 높이 조절기구 설계 (Design of Height Adjustment Mechanism for Flat Panel Display by DFSS)

  • This study was carried out to minimize the lifting force and to design the slim sized frame of a height adjustment mechanism. This unit is designed for the display devices in order to enhance the ergonomics for effective height adjustment as well as to achieve much slimmer frame for the pedestal. A tolerance analysis of 6 sigma was applied to achieve smooth lift at design stage not to change the tolerance specification of gap several times in a roller type of lifting mechanism at mass production stage. The specification of minimum gap and the target of production yield ratio were agreed with a quality team before tooling. A DFSS simulation on drawings had been done with reasonable tolerance and achievable standard deviation(${\sigma}$) several times until the target specification of gap and yield ratio was met. Once tolerance and deviation(${\sigma}$) were fixed tooling start was done successfully. A CAE method was applied to achieve a slim design. Design parameters were frozen when those parameters matched the reference strength data of standard model. Through those tolerance analysis and CAE simulation the number of tool modification was reduced and production yield ratio was raised up without arguing quality specification at production stage in the end.

식스시그마의 1.5σ 이동에 대한 소고 (A Note for 1.5σ Shift of Six Sigma)

  • Six Sigma is a philosophy and systematic methodology for quality improvement. It encourages continuous quality improvement efforts to achieve the ideal goal of 6σ. Sigma(σ) is a statistic representing the standard deviation of the normal distribution, and 6σ level means a level where the tolerance of the specification is six times the standard deviation of the process distribution. In terms of the defective rate, the 6σ level achieves the 0.002 defectives per one million units. However, in the field, the 6σ level is used in the sense of achieving 3.4 defects per one million opportunities, which shows a large gap from the 6σ level in the statistical viewpoint. This is because field practitioners accept a 1.5σ shift of the mean of process when calculating the defective rate under sigma level. It said that the acceptance of 1.5σ shift of the mean is from experience, but there is no research or theoretical explanation to support it logically. Although it is a non-scientific explanation based on experience, considering that there has been no objection to the 1.5σ shift for a long time and it is rather accepted, it is judged that there is a reasonable basis for the 1.5σ shift. Therefore, this study tries to find a reasonable explanation through detective power of control chart via the run-rules to the 1.5σ shift empirically recognized by practitioners.

보조씨드층을 이용한 ZnO 압전박막의 우선배향성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Preferred Orientation of ZnO Piezoelectric Thin Film Using Helped Seed Layer)

  • FBAR(Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator) 소자의 공진특성을 결정하는 가장 중요한 요소는 압전막의 압전성을 들 수 있다. FBAR 압전막으로 유력한 ZnO 압전박막은 (002)면 c-축 우선배향성(preferred orientation)의 정도에 따라서 압전성이 결정된다. 그러므로 ZnO 박막의 우선배향성에 관한 연구는 많은 연구자들의 관심사가 되어왔다. 본 논문에서는 ZnO 보조씨드충(helped seed layer)을 이용하여 ZnO 압전박막의 우선배향성에 대하여 조사하였으며, rocking curve의 표준편차$(\sigma)$ 값이 $1.15^{\circ}$인 주상형 결정립을 가진 c-축 ZnO 압전박막이 우수한 압전특성을 나타내는 것을 확인하였다.

Six Sigma 기법을 이용한 이중 스월 가스터빈 연소기의 튜닝시험 (Tuning Test of a Double-Swirl Gas Turbine Combustor using Six Sigma Tools)

  • This paper describes combustion tuning methodology of double-swirl gas turbine combustor using six sigma tools. This methodology is consist of five steps-Define, Identify, Design, Optimize and Verify (DIDOV). First, the NOx reduction target was defined in the step design; second, the current status of the plant was diagnosed in the step of identify; third, the vital few control parameters to achieve the defined target were determined by analyzing the correlation between the control parameters and NOx emissions in the step of design; fourth, the optimum condition was derived from one of the six sigma tools in the step of optimize; finally, the optimum condition was verified by applying the condition to the gas turbine combustor in the step of verify. As a result of the suggested method, averaged NOx emissions were reduced by more than 70% and the standard deviation was improved by more than 60%. Thus, this methodology can be attributed to the efficient reduction of NOx emission with saving combustion tuning time.

  • The purity methods to determine LOD/LOQ using standard deviation of the residual, intercept and blank by IUPAC and ACS describe many of the pitfalls and pose significant challenges to analytical chemists. Therefore, the aim of this study is the development of the simple, easy, convenient and statistically significant method to determine LOD in quantitative analysis of organic solvents by GC. The new approaching method by linearization in the given concentration range used coefficient of variation ; ${\sigma}_{n-1}$/S(standard deviation, ${\sigma}_{n-1}$ and average, S) of sensitivity(Response/concentration). The comparison of results among the purity methods(IUPAC and ACS) and the linearization have been fulfilled the F-test for standard deviations and t-test for LOD range values. The results of F-test and t-test are satisfied within 95 % confidence level, respectably. The LOD values determined by the new procedure are n-Hexane 0.0116 mg/$m^3$, Toluene 0.0807 mg/$m^3$, and o-Xylene 0.0494 mg/$m^3$. Because the standard deviation of the residual, intercept and blank and the slope of calibration curve are not calculated and the new approaching method use the coefficient of variation of sensitivity by linearization, this new method is simple, easy, convenient and statistically significant. In future, many chemical analysts will expect to applicate and routinely use this method in the all quantitative analysis.

망원경 LX200-16 구동장치의 주기오차량 측정과 보정 (THE MEASUREMENT AND CORRECTION OF THE PERIODIC ERROR OF THE LX200-16 TELESCOPE DRIVING SYSTEM)

  • 충북대하교 교내천문대에 설치된 LX200 망원경으 구동장치가 가지고 있는 주기오차량을 측정하고, 이를 분석하여 보정하였다. 주기오차의 보정전에 측정한 오차의 표준편차는 $\sigma$=7."2 이었고, 주기오차를 보정한 후의 $\sigma$=1."2로 추적을 하는데 있어 정확도면에서 6배 향상되었다.
