수동대기모드를 고려한 셋톱박스 모드전환 기술의 에너지 절감 성능 분석 (Power consumption evaluation of Set-top box mode transition scheme considering passive stand-by mode)

  • This paper proposes a performance evaluation method for power consumption of set-top box (STB) stand-by mode transition schemes. A stand-by mode transition scheme characterizes the timing of mode transition. The timing of mode transition affects the duration of stand-by mode operation, and the power consumptions of STB as well. Recently a fast stand-by mode transition scheme (FMT) has been proposed based on user input for selecting the device to be connected to TV. In this paper, we evaluate power consumption of FMT and a conventional mode transition scheme. For the computation of the duration of stand-by mode operation, the user input events are modeled as Poisson process. Simulation results based on the modeling reveals that the proposed scheme is more effective in power saving than the conventional scheme by up to 30%.

  • We measured stand-by power of electrical machinery and appliance which are used at office and house. And we estimated potential electrical energy saving through stand-by power and the expecting number of supplied apparatus. As a result, We can reduce electrical energy by minimizing a stand-by power consumption up to three billion kWh which are equal to about 1/3 of an atomic power plant's generating power of 1 year.

  • This paper analyzes voltage control method in order to supply high-quality power for stand-alone microgrid. Stand-alone microgrid is composed of battery bank, stand-alone PCS and controllable loads. The main role of stand-alone PCS is to supply high-quality power to loads as main source by using stable voltage method regardless of load conditions. In particularly, output voltage of stand-alone PCS gets severely unbalanced voltage under unbalanced loads. Fundamental positive and negative sequences are transformed by two coordinates transformation which are rotated in each opposite direction, respectively. Each fundamental d-q voltage is regulated by each fundamental PI control. In addition, low-order harmonics are compensated through resonant controllers. Performance of stand-alone microgrid is tested for feasibility, and it is verified that output voltage of THD is improved to 1% from 2.2% under 50 kW balanced load, and is improved to 1.1% from 2.6% under 50 kW unbalanced load.

  • The device we have developed is the automatic shut off equipment which will reduce energy consumption when an equipment is in stand by power state. The principle for this system is when a man is moving, electricity will flow by setting a on-off light system. At night, in the stand-by power state the electric supply will be shut off immediately which will reduce energy consumption. Energy consumed by 24hour operating machines and stand-by electronic devices will be reduced by pulse signals which will give power supply when needed.

  • This paper is designated to introduce the method of reducing stand-by Power of SMPS applied PLC(Power Line Communication) and its implementation. PLC modem consists mainly of PLC Module, Coupling Circuit, ZCP(Zero-Cross Point) Circuit and Power Supply Circuit. By controlling power from Power Supply Circuit to PLC Module and ZCP Circuit, the reduction of Stand-by Power is established. When this method is applied to SMPS used for a low-speed PLC, about 50% power reduction is provided, compared to the other case to which it is not applied.

Modelling a Stand-Alone Inverter and Comparing the Power Quality of the National Grid with Off-Grid System

  • Developments in power electronics have enabled the widespread application of Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) inverters, notably for connecting renewable systems to the grid. This study demonstrates that a high-quality power can be achieved using a stand-alone inverter, whereby the comparison between the power quality of the stand-alone inverter with battery storage (off-grid) and the power quality of the utility network is presented. Multi-loop control techniques for a single phase stand-alone inverter are used. A capacitor current control is used to give active damping and enhance the transient and steady state inverter performance. A capacitor current control is cheaper than the inductor current control, where a small current sensing resistor is used. The output voltage control is used to improve the system performance and also control the output voltage. The inner control loop uses a proportional gain current controller and the outer loop is implemented using internal model control proportional-integral-derivative to ensure stability. The optimal controls are achieved by using the Sisotool tool in MATLAB/Simulink. The outcome of the control scheme of the numerical model of the stand-alone inverter has a smooth and good dynamic performance, but also a strong robustness to load variations. The numerical model of the stand-alone inverter and its power quality are presented, and the power quality is shown to meet the IEEE 519-2014. Furthermore, the power quality of the off-grid system is measured experimentally and compared with the grid power, showing power quality of off-grid system to be better than that of the utility network.

  • This paper proposed the voltage control of stand-alone inverter for power quality improvement under unbalanced and non-linear load. The 3-phase DC-AC inverter controls CVCF(Constant Voltage Constant Frequency) and selective harmonic eliminate method in stand-alone mode by PR controller, and the stand-lone inverter supplies stable sinusoidal voltage to balanced, unbalanced and non-linear loads. The total harmonic distortion(THD) of line-to-line load voltage($V_{LL}$) is 1.2% in the balanced load. THD of $V_{LL}$ is reduced from 5.2% to 1.4% and 6.7% to 3.5%, respectively unbalanced and non-linear load. The stand-alone inverter can be supplies sinusoidal balanced voltage to unbalanced load because the voltage unbalanced factor(VUF) of $V_{LL}$ is reduced from 5.2% to 1.4% in the unbalanced load. Feasibility of control method for a stand-alone inverter will be verified through 30kW stand-alone inverter system.

  • Most of the present demand in the world is met by fossil and nuclear power plants. A small part is met by renewable energy technologies. Among the renewable power sources, wind and solar energy have experienced a remarkably rapid growth in the past 10 years. Recently the utilization of wind power has been receiving close attention in this country, especially for the electrification of off-shore islands. The objective of this study is to demonstrate a small wind energy system as a stand-alone power source.

Design and implementation of IoT based controllers and communication module interfaces for stand-alone solar system

  • This paper is part of research and development for stand-alone solar system without commercial power supply. It implements firmware of controller for operation of stand-alone solar system by applying IoT technology and also develops communication modules that allow multiple solar lamps to send and receive data through wireless network. The controller of the developed stand-alone solar system can effectively charge the power generated by the solar module, taking into account the battery's charge and discharge characteristics. It also has the advantage of attaching wireless communication modules to solar lamp posts to establish wireless communication networks without incurring communication costs. In addition, by establishing IoT gateway middleware platform for each installation site, it forms a foundation to operate multiple solar lamp posts into multiple clusters. And, it is expected that the data collected in each cluster will be used to enable configuration and control of operational information, thereby inducing convenience and efficiency of remote operation and management.

  • 엘리베이터의 전력은 대기 시에 소모되는 전력과 운행 시에 소모되는 전력으로 분류할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 변화가 많은 승객의 교통량에 적절한 운행 대수를 계산하고 운행하지 않는 엘리베이터의 전원을 차단하여 엘리베이터의 대기전력을 저감시키는 퍼지제어기를 제안하였다. 또한 엘리베이터의 운행대수 제한에 의한 승객의 평균 대기시간의 증가도 최소화 하도록 퍼지제어기를 설계하였다. 본 논문에서 제안된 퍼지제어기를 그룹 엘리베이터 실험장치에서 실험하였을 때에 승객의 대기시간이 약 7.5%~9.5% 증가하였고, 한 대당 하루 약 675KWh의 대기전력 저감과 한 대당 년 간 약 236.6KWh의 엘리베이터 대기전력의 저감이 예상된다.
