The Effect of Grain Size on the Corrosion Resistance of 429EM Steel (429EM 강의 내식성에 미치는 결정립 크기의 영향)

  • The effects of grain size on the corrosion resistance of 429EM ferritic stainless steels for automobile exhaust system were investigated. Using specimens held at maximum service temperature of $950^{\circ}C$ for 10~70 hours, electrochemical polarization tests were conducted. While corrosion current density, $I_{corr}$, was influenced little by grain size, pitting potential, $E_p$, was increased with an increase of grain size. Sensitizaton at grain boundary occurred when the specimen were held at $950^{\circ}C$ for above 50 hours because of the dissolution of precipitates and grain coarsening.

  • A mathemetical medel has been developed for the purpose of estimating the rolling force required for computer control of cold strip mills. The model consists of equations of rolling force. flow stress. friction coefficient and tension. By applying the model to a 6-High cold tandem mill, the computer simulation is then been possible for all kinds of steels except stainless steel and the effectiveness of the model has been confirmed in the practice.

  • Wear test has been performed to evaluate the wear mechanism of Inconel alloys against ferritic stainless steels in room temperature water. By means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the worn surface and microstructure of subsurface layer have been examined. The wear at steady state conditions result in the formation of 5∼7${\mu}$m thick layers with fragmented microstructure. The thickness of these layers seems to depend on the ability of work hardening and deformation accommodation at the contact areas during wear. Therefore, in room temperature water, the wear rate is closely related with the wear resistance of these fragment microstructure which are generated after severe subsurface deformation.

  • 스테인리스강의 주요 특징은 우수한 내식성에 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 스테인리스강은 질화시키면 스테인리스강의 주요 특징인 내식성의 저하가 불가피하다. 그러나 경우에 따라서는 내식성이 다소 희생되더라도 내모성 향상을 목적으로 SUS 304소재를 이용한 피스톤링이나 SUS 420 J2소재를 사용하는 마이크로 샤프트 등과 같은 많은 제품에 대하여 질화처리를 실시하고 있다. 스테인리스 제품에 얼룩이 없는 질화처리를 실시하기 위해서는 앞에서 소개한 방법 이외에 표면활성화를 위한 분말처리법 등이 많이 사용되고 있으며, 그 예로 일본의 마테크(주)에서 제조하여 (주)사마루에서 시판하고 있는 활성분체질화제(APN법, DCA)을 사용하여 질화시키는 방법등도 있다. 이와 같이 외국에서는 프라즈마법이 아닌 일반 가스질화에 의한 스테인리스강의 질화에 대한 많은 연구가 이루어지고 산업화 되어 있지만 현재 국내에서는 이에 대한 연구가 거의 이루어지고 있지 않은 실정이다. 따라서 앞으로는 국내에서도 이러한 분야에 대한 보다 많은 관심과 연구 및 기술보고 등이 활성화되어야 할 것으로 생각된다.

Study of Corrosion behavior of the Separator for MCFC

  • The molten carbonate fuel cell has conspicuous feature and high potential in being used as an energy converter of various fuel to electricity and heat. However, the molten carbonate fuel cell which use strongly corrosive molten carbonate at $650^{\circ}C$ have many problem. Systematic investigation on corrosion behavior of stainless steels has been done 62 mole% $Li_2CO_3$ and 38 mole% $K_2CO_3$ melt at 923 K by using steady-state polarization method and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy method. It was found that SUS 310L and Al coating specimen may be the best choice among the alloys tested in this study for molten carbonate fuel cell component material.

  • The general manufacturing problem can be described as the achievement of a predefined product quality with given equipment, cost and time constraints. Unfortunately, for some quality characteristics of a product such as surface roughness it is hard to ensure that these requirements will be met. Stainless steels STS 304 is frequently used as shaft materials in small fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) fishing boats. In this work, the dry turning parameters of STS 304 are optimized by using Taguchi method. The experiments were conducted at three different cutting speeds with three different feed and three different depth of cut. The cutting parameters are optimized using signal to noise ratio and the analysis of variance. The effects of cutting speed and feed on surface roughness was analyzed. The results revealed that the spindle speed is the more significant parameter influencing the surface roughness.

  • The temperature dependence of DC magnetic susceptibilities of three austenitic Fe-Cr-Ni stainless alloys were measured in the temperature range of 4.2 and 300 K. Two alloys support a general magnetic description of austen-itic stsinless steels in terms of a two-magnetic-phase (spin glass + superparamagnetic cluster) model and one alloy shows magnetic double transition phenomena. Also this study shows that incressing the Ni/Cr ratio in Fe-Cr-Ni alloys causes a increase of the DC susceptibility peak value and a decrease of the magnetic transition temperature.

  • We have investigated traits of clad metals in hot-rolled clad steel plates, sensitization and mechanical properties of STS 316 steel plate and carbon steel(A516). Clad steel plates were butt-weld by SAW+SMAW, and with the time of heat treatment as the variable, heat treatment was conducted at $625^{\circ}C$, for 80, 160, 320, 640, 1280 minutes. As a way to evaluate it, sectioned weldments and external surfaces were investigated to reveal the degree of sensitization by mechanical property, etching and those of EPR test, results were compared with it. In short, the purpose of this study is suggesting some considerations in developing on-site techniques to evaluate the sensitization of stainless steels.

  • Environmental fatigue crack propagation of CF8M and CF8A steels used in the domestic PWR were investigated on the simulated PWR condition(Temperature: $316^{\circ}C$, Pressure: 15MPa). The test equipment for environmental fatigue(high temperature-high pressure loop, autoclave, load frame, measurement system) were designed. As-received and 60-year aged specimens were used in the test. To compare with environmental fatigue test, another test was performed in the air condition. The fracture surface of specimens were difficult to verify the fracture modes such as striation, intergranular crack and cleavage and so on. As the ferrite content of CF8M is increased, more particles covered fracture surface were peeled.

  • By the purpose to investigate the change of internal stress and mobile dislocation density in creep, the stress relaxation test is carried out in the condition of each strain. Mobile dislocation density increased until it reached minimum creep rate and after that, it decreased and internal stress didn't have the change approximately until it reached minimum creep rate and after that, it decreased. The stress relaxation rate is fast and approached zero after 1.5 seconds after the beginning of the stress relaxation. And the larger the applied stress is, the larger the internal stress is. By the evaluation of mobility of dislocation, the dislocations glide viscously in STS31OJlTB but it is the dislocations glide viscously which N passes by cutting Cr atom rather than typical viscosity movement after calculating mobility of dislocation.
