  • From the Study on the Pricking blood therapy of ${\ulcorner}$HwangjeNaegyeong${\lrcorner}$, we conclude as follows; 1. The blood is apt to coagulate because of having concreteness. The blood is mainly coagulate as the collateral Meridian, minute collaterals, superficial collaterals and superficial vessels. By way of the Pricking blood therapy, the Stagnation of blood can be circulated, pathogenic factor removed, Eum-Yang(陰陽) and Gi and blood(氣血) can reach their balance. 2. To bloodletting, we should examine minutely, touch carefully with the region of the stagnated blood. After close observation of the stagnated blood, we should remove the stagnated blood up to clear. At the same time, we should observe carefully the color of the stagnated blood. 3. The acupuncture used for the Pricking blood therapy were stone needle, Bongchim(鋒鍼), Chamchim(?鍼), Pichim(?鍼) and Hochim(毫鍼) etc: After ages, from the base of Bongchim(鋒鍼), the three-edged needle became typical form. The skill of the Pricking blood therapy also became diverse, clinical application became wide. 4. After giving medical treatment with the Pricking blood therapy, reactions are various. Among them are side effects and normal effects. 5. The Pricking blood therapy is usually considered as simple sectional curing method, while it was considered as curing disease of JangBu(臟腑) or meridians in ${\ulcorner}$Hwangje-Naegyeong${\lrcorner}$. Therefore, if we sould apply the Pricking blood therapy on the basis of ${\ulcorner}$Hwangje-Naegyeong${\lrcorner}$, we should carefully understand the pattern identification according to Meridians and collaterals, and pattern identification of the Jang-Bu organs.

  • In this study, the three-dimensional blood flow within the sac of KTAH(Korean artificial heart) is simulated using fluid-structure interaction model. The numerical method employed in this study is the finite element commercial package ADINA. The thrombus formation is one of the most critical problems in KTAH. High fluid shear stress or stagnated flow are believed to be the main causes of these disastrous phenomenon. We solved the fluid-structure interaction between the 3D blood flow in the sac and the surrounding sac material. The sac material is assumed as linear elastic material and the blood as incompressible viscous fluid. Numerical solutions show that high shear stress region and stagnated flow are found near the upper part of the sac and near the comer of the outlet during diastole stage.

A Study on the Collateral Vessel Pathology(絡脈病機) of Blood Disease(血證) in Onbyeong(溫病) with focus on Ju-Gaek-Gyo(主客交, guest-host minglement) and Dry Blood(乾血) (온병(溫病) 혈증(血證)의 낙맥병기(絡脈病機)에 대한 고찰 -주객교(主客交)와 건혈(乾血)을 중심으로-)

  • Objective : Blood disease is common these days due to modern man's excessiveness in Yang heat (陽熱) and vulnerability of the Eum blood(陰血). This exposes them to warmheat/ dampness-heat diseases, where pathogenic heat easily penetrates the blood dimension(血分) creating stagnated blood(瘀血). Consequently, pathogenic symptoms in the collateral vessels increase, making it crucial to understand the pathogenic mechanism of the disease. Method : This paper examines the condition and region of the collateral vessel diseases(CVD) according to the blood diseases of Onbyeong, by analyzing each prescription's matching symptom. The disease in question in this paper is 'stagnated blood fixated in the collateral vessels'. Therefore diseases with stagnated blood in the Yang collaterals and Viscera collaterals or viscera themselves from the chapter of "On-Yeok-Ron(溫疫論)", and < Dry Blood-DaeWhangJaChungWhan(大黃蟅蟲丸) > chapter of "Geum-Gue-Yo-Rak(金匱要略)", were examined respectively. Result & Conclusion : The process of CVD according to the blood diseases of Onbyeong can be summarized as follows. First, bleeding in the Yang and Bowel collaterals, then stagnation in the Yang and Bowel collaterals, and finally stagnation in the viscera collaterals or Liver itself. The refractory nature of blood stagnation symptoms of the collateral vessels is mainly due to the characteristics of the collateral vessel itself. In structure, they are very narrow and small, situated at the most terminal part of the body where it is difficult for the Jeong Gi(精氣) to reach. Also, as they are symptomatic of degeneration of Jeong Gi, the root of the disease is very deep. Therefore to resolve blood stagnation in the cases of Ju-Gaek-Gyo and Dry Blood, general approaches using 'Gi communication(行氣)' or 'Blood vitalizing(活血)' medicinals will not suffice. Special medicinals such as crustacean and insects need to be appropriately applied.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this paper is to study the origin, mechanism, category of Chest bind with static blood(血結胸), the relation to the syndrome of Heat entering the blood chamber(熱入血室證), and the comparison with Chest bind(結胸). Methods : Sikuquanshu(四庫全書), a comprehensive range of medical books, and Shanghanlun(傷寒論) annotation books were searched by 'Chest bind with static blood' keyword and analyzed. Results & Conclusions : 1. The syndrome of Chest bind with static blood is first brought up by ZhuGong(朱肱) and it can be derived from the syndrome of Heat entering the blood chamber or can be shown in upper middle lower energizer Stagnated Blood Syndrome(上中下焦蓄血證, SBC). Ever since the publication of Shanghanquanshengji(傷寒全生集), its category was expanded and prescriptions for the SBC were used. 2. In comparison, the cause of Chest bind with static blood is associated with blood heat(血熱), largely connected with blood, mental illness appeared, lesions are usually chest and sides, and the cause of Chest bind is associated with intermingled water heat (水熱) or phlegm heat(痰熱), not connected with blood, mental illness not appeared, lesions are from the beneath the heart to lower abdomen. 3. The syndrome of Chest bind with static blood derived from the syndrome of Heat entering the blood chamber can appear along side with the Liver Meridian associated with blood chamber or appear in chest, the syndrome appeared in upper energizer SBC can be shown in the chest due to gravity, the one appeared in middle energizer SBC can be shown in the chest due to the same level, the one appeared in lower energizer SBC can be shown in the chest due to the constitutional predisposition of YangQi(陽氣) uprise.

  • The causes and treatment of alopecia are concluded based on the records found successive oriental medicine in order to persuade new treatments for alopecia as following : 1. In the context of modern medical science male-dominated alopecia was referred as dok-rak(禿落), cho-dok(早禿), chon-dok(全禿), pal-ju-tal-bal, chu-bal-sun and pal-sun(髮癬) alternatively, while alopecia areata was refereed as yu-pung(油風), pan-dok(斑禿), kwi-ji-du and kwi-che-du(鬼剃頭). 2. The causes of alopecia is related with condition of Gi(vital energy) and Hyul(blood) in the twelve channels, such as weakening of vital energy in the conduits, condition of internal organs as heat in the lung, weak kidney or liver vitality, and eating habits such as severe ingestion of bitter taste or sweet taste food. Other distinct reasons are penetration of wind and dryness into a head due to weakening Gi and Hyul inside human body, flaring up of the asthenic fire due to excessive eatings, hard labour or psychological sufferings deficiency of blood, deficiency of vital essence of kidney, phlegm caused by dampness and heat, and stagnated blood. 3. According to demonstration of alopecia, the causes of alopecia areata are listed as internal wind due to heat of blood, deficiency of liver and kidney, blookage of channels and collaterals by stagnated blood, and causes of male-dominated alopecia are listed as wind dryness caused by heat of blood, dampness and heat, and heat, wind and dryness due to deficiency of blood.
