  • Increased temperature caused by global warming has become a significant problem for the growth and production of crops. A high temperature has a direct or an indirect effect on crops, leading to a significant yield loss. The damage of a high temperature stress to rice depends on its developmental stage. In present study, we performed evaluate the heading date in different location, Yeoju and Miryang, during growth of Korean rice core set. The heading date for the 223 rice accession were evaluated in Yeoju City (37°23' 127°57') and Miryang City (35°50', 128°72') located on middle and southern part of Korea, respectively. The average temperature of a day was higher in Miryang during entire growth stage. Here, total 222 KRICE-Core set was analyzed by GWAS for the high temperature effect. GWAS results revealed the Chr07_26954556, a lead SNPs were significantly associated with delaying heading date of KRICE-Core set. Significance threshold was set with 6.0 > -log10(P), and Cross-Validation (CV) error suggested an optimal K value of 5 for the population based on the lowest cross-validation error K = 5.

  • This paper considers a multistage experiment. Response scales can be same or different from stage to stage. When variables are of nested structure, the response variable at each stage can be defined conditionally. For analysing such data with compound scales, this paper suggests a sequnce of dependence models and shows how to set up a sequence of models for the driver's liscense test data.

  • Five equating methos for elective subjects of College Scholastic Ability Test were analyzed under a common-items nonequivalent groups design using a real data set of 110 thousand examinees. Five methods were (a)two-stage linear equating (b) two-stage equi-percentile equating (c) Tucker equating (d) Frequency estimation equating and (e)Braun-Holland equating. The results indicated that Frequency estimation equating fits well and two-stage linear equating produces most different equating results from the Frequency estimation equating.

  • Objective: This study was performed to compare the clinical outcome of elective single embryo transfer (eSET) performed at the cleavage stage to that of elective double embryo transfer (eDET). Methods: Of the women less than 36 years old who visited Daegu Maria from January 2008 to April 2009, the only women (n=330) with more than 8 mm of endometrial thickness and at least one good quality embryo, who were treated with GnRH agonist long protocol, were included in this study. After information about complications that can arise by multiple embryo transfer, either eSET or eDET was conducted by their request (167 and 163, respectively). Results: The implantation rate of eSET group was significantly higher than that of eDET group (53.9% vs. 40.2%, p<0.01). The twin pregnancy rate of eSET group was significantly lower than that of eDET group (1.1% vs. 32.3%, p<0.001). However, there were no significant differences between two groups in the clinical pregnancy (53.3% vs. 60.7%, p=0.172), ongoing pregnancy (47.3% vs. 54.6%, p=0.185) and live birth rates (44.9% vs. 50.9%, p=0.275). The number of the surplus embryos which developed to the blastocyst stage and cryopreserved at that stage was significantly higher in eSET group than that of eDET group ($3.2{\pm}2.6$ vs. $2.1{\pm}2.4$, p<0.001). Conclusion: These results suggest that eSET should reduce significantly the multiple baby pregnancy without decreasing the whole pregnancy rate in women with less than 36 years old.

  • Recently, many performing arts facilities are under construction to accommodate people's various interest in cultural experiences. However, due to Korea's lack of know-how in such constructions and an absence of proper regulations on design planning, each designer designs and constructs the facilities differently, so several problems are occurring in the process of construction, such as high production cost for stage sets, high labor cost, low efficiency of stage work, and complicated work process. This resulted in low quality production of performance. This study is conducted to address the need for a systematic study on stage floor, and to propose an efficient way of regulating stage work in existing performing arts facilitiesand new facilities to be built. By a comparative analysis of performing arts facilities in Korea, and by analyzing stage floors of the facilities, this research suggests minimum modules as well as an appropriate unit of modules based on the minimum modules; and provides basic data on stage floors, which can be used for remodeling existing facilities orfor planning new cultural facilities. Also, this study suggests various ways of utilizing performing arts facilities in Korea.

  • We have studied the applicability of the principles and inherent advantages of the two-stage dontinuous uclture technique to an enzyme process for the purpose of improving and optimizing the productivity of 3-ketosteroid-delta-1-dehydrogenase. By using a two-stage continuous culture system, the growth st ageand enzyme produdtion stage are separated. In each stage an optimal set of toperaing conditions was determined, and this was tested for feasibility for the period of 10 days. During this period, at least 70% of the maximum enzyme productivity could be maintained. The important design parameters studied are: (1) optimal specific growth rate in the first stage which corresponds to the maximal cell productivity, (2) the optimal dilution rate in the second stage which in turn determines the size of second stage fermentor and the mean residence time of cells in the second stage, (3) cell concentration in both stages, add (4) the specific enzyme productivity and enzyme productivity of the second stage. In addition, by using two-stage continuous culture system we have been able to reduce or eliminate the effect of catabolite repression due to high medium concentration and the adverse effect of the solvent used to dissolve the inducer. We have found the balance between the opposing effects of induction and repression in the second stage judging from the observation that the enzyme productivity goes through a maximum.

  • The cultural art would be the most competitive commercial value in the 21st century. This research is about the stage costumes of the opera 'Ch'un Hyang Jeon'which is designed and made to fit modern times and the purpose is to set the opera 'Ch'un Hyang Jeon'as groundwork for the future opera of Korea. To extend the stage costumes of the Korea opera : First, We have to inform the world about our traditional costumes and design them to express our culture. Second, Not only the costumes but also the technical aspect such as stage music, setting, and lighting and the artistic aspect should be balanced in development. Third, We need a good training system for future designers of the stage costumes.

  • Hospice movement in Taiwan emerged early in 1983. There was a nurse visiting terminal cancer patients by herself in Taipei city. It was ceased after one year. This stage of hospice movement might be called as "compassionate era". In early 1990, the first in-patient hospice ward was set up in north Taiwan. She demonstrated high touch in the high technology medical atmosphere. There was a great echo in Taiwan society to this action. In the following years, quite a few new hospice settings were founded. Medical professionals were aroused again to talk and think about life and death, dignity of dying and holistic care. This stage of hospice movement might be called as "ethical stage". Around 2000, obstructions were discovered in our development. We do need system and rules. Standard of setting and care, Curriculum of education and training, Accreditation system and specialist system and Nature Death Act are some of the systems we approached. This stage of hospice movement might be called as "Act stage". Among the "Act stage", the Nature Death Act is actually the mile stone in our history. • In recent years, the need for multi-stage gear drives, which highly reduce output speed, has been increased. However, the design of multi-stage gear drives have been carried out by a limited number of experts. The consideration for the direction of input and output axes also makes their design very difficult. The purpose of this study is to develop an algorithm for automatically generating complex multi-stage gear drives and to implement a design supporting system for multi-stage gear drives. There are 4 stages in the proposed algorithm, and major design parameters,.such as the direction of input and output axes, reduction ratio, etc. are set up in the first stage. In the second stage, all mechanisms are generated, and various rules are applied to select feasible mechanisms. In the third stage, the gear ratio of each stage is divided from total gear ratio. Next, the specifications of gears for feasible mechanisms are calculated and their bending strength and surface durability are estimated. In the forth stage, appraised indexes are calculated and provided to support the estimation of the generated gear drives.
