  • In this paper, we proposed a new instruction set(X32Y ISA) with 3 different types of instruction mode. The proposed instruction set organizes 32-bit, 24-bit, 16-bit instruction in order to solves a problem of memory size limitation in an embedded microprocessor. We designed a 32-bit 5 stage pipeline RISC microprocessor based on the X32V ISA. To verify the proposed the X32V ISA and a microprocessor, we estimated a program code size of multimedia application programs using a X32V simulator. In result, we verified that the Light mode and the Ultra Light mode obtains 8%, 27% reduction of a program code size through comparison with the Default mode. The proposed microprocessor was verified all X32V instructions execution at Xilinx FPGA with 33MHz operating frequency,

  • It is important that the training stage of a supervised classification is designed to provide the spectral information. On the design of the training stage of a classification typically calls for the use of a large sample of randomly selected pure pixels in order to characterize the classes. Such guidance is generally made without regard to the specific nature of the application in-hand, including the classifier to be used. An approach to the training of a support vector machine (SVM) classifier that is the opposite of that generally promoted for training set design is suggested. This approach uses a small sample of mixed spectral responses drawn from purposefully selected locations (geographical boundaries) in training. A sample of such data should, however, be easier and cheaper to acquire than that suggested by traditional approaches. In this research, we evaluated them against traditional approaches with high-resolution satellite data. The results proved that it can be used small mixed pixels to derive a classification with similar accuracy using a large number of pure pixels. The approach can also reduce substantial costs in training data acquisition because the sampling locations used are commonly easy to observe.

  • Since 2005, food waste has been separately collected and recycled to animal feed or aerobic compost in South Korea. However, the conventional recycling methods discharge process wastewater, which contain pollutant equivalent to more than 50% of food waste. Therefore, anaerobic digestion is considered as an alternative recycling method of food waste to reduce pollutant and recover renewable energy. Recent studies showed that hydrogen can be produced at acidogenic stage in two-stage anaerobic digestion. In this study, the authors investigated the effects of pretreatment time and pH low set value on continuous mesophilic hydrogen fermentation of food waste. Food waste was successfully converted to $H_2$ when heat-treated at $70^{\circ}C$ for 60 min, which was milder than previous studies using pH 12 for 1 day or $90^{\circ}C$. Organic acid production dropped operational pH below 5.0 and caused a metabolic shift from $H_2/butyrate$ fermentation to lactate fermentation. Therefore, alkaline addition for operational pH at or over 5.0 was necessary. At pH 5.3, the result showed that the maximum hydrogen productivity and yield of 1.32 $m^3/m^3$.d and 0.71 mol/mol $carbohydrate_{added}$. Hydrogen production from food waste would be an effective technology for resource recovery as well as waste treatment.

  • The goal of data mining is to develop the automatic and intelligent tools and technologies that can find useful knowledge from databases. To meet this goal, we propose an efficient data mining algorithm based on the fuzzy decision tree. The proposed method combines comprehensibility of decision tree such as ID3 and C4.5 and representation power of fuzzy set theory. So, it can generate simple and comprehensive rules describing data. The proposed algorithm consists of two stages: the first stage generates the fuzzy membership functions using histogram analysis, and the second stage constructs a fuzzy decision tree using the fuzzy membership functions. From the testing of the proposed algorithm on the IRIS data and the Wisconsin Breast Cancer data, we found that the proposed method can generate a set of fuzzy rules from data efficiently.

  • The Service Availability (SA) in the viewpoint of passenger is used as the key performance indicator (KPI) of quality of service in Light Rail Transit (LRT) Public-Private Partnerships projects. But there are many disputes on the target value of SA because of the lack of experience in SA. The target value of SA should be set at an early stage of the project to be specified on the system specifications and operation plan. Therefore, this paper developed the quantitative prediction model of SA to set the reasonably achievable target value of SA at an early stage of the LRT project. Also this paper analyzed the relationship and differentiation of SA and Train Punctuality (TP) that is mostly compared with SA.

  • We investigated to understand the differences in the karyotypes and the reproductive characteristics between the diploid clam, Corbicula japonica in the brackish water and the triploid clam, C. fluminea in the freshwater. The number of chromosomes of the diploid C. japonica were 38, which can be grouped into 19 pairs of two homologues. These can be divided into 11 pairs of telocentric, 4 pairs of subtelocentric, 3 pairs of submetacentric and one pair of metacentric chromosomes. C. japonica is oviparous and dioecious. The clam has two pairs of gills, with the inner and outer-demibranchs, however, they do not act mainly as marsupia. External fertilization occurs in the brackish water. The triploid marsh clam, C. fluminea has 54 chromosomes, which can be grouped into 18 sets of three homologues. These 18 sets can be divided into one metacentric group, five submetacentric groups and 12 subtelo- or telocentric groups. C. fluminea is ovoviviparous and functional hermaphrodite. The triploid condition may be closely related to hermaphroditism. This species has the inner-demibranchs acting mainly as marsupia. The depletion of ripe eggs occurred in the inner-demibranchs of the gill during the incubatory periods, and ripe eggs produced in the hermaphroditic follicles in the gonad during the non-incubatory periods. The gonad developmental stages of two marsh clams (C. japonica and C. fluminea) can be divided into five stages: early active stage, late active stage, ripe stage, partially spawned stages, and spent/inactive stage.

  • A reliability data processing MPRDP (Multi-Purpose Reliability Data Processor) has been developed in FORTRAN language since Jan. 1992 at KAERI (Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute). The purpose of the research is to construct a reliability database(plant-specific as well as generic) by processing various kinds of reliability data in most objective and systematic fashion. To account for generic estimates in various compendia as well as generic plants' operating experience, we developed a 'three-stage' Bayesian procedure[1] by logically combining the 'two-stage' procedure[2] and the idea for processing generic estimates[3]. The first stage manipulates generic plant data to determine a set of estimates for generic parameters,e.g. the mean and the error factor, which accordingly defines a generic failure rate distribution. Then the second stage combines these estimates with the other ones proposed by various generic compendia (we call these generic book type data). This stage adopts another Bayesian procedure to determine the final generic failure rate distribution which is to be used as a priori distribution in the third stage. Then the third stage updates the generic distribution by plant-specific data resulting in a posterior failure rate distribution. Both running failure and demand failure data can be handled in this code. In accordance with the growing needs for a consistent and well-structured reliability database, we constructed a generic reliability database by the MPRDP code[4]. About 30 generic data sources were reviewed and available data were collected and screened from them. We processed reliability data for about 100 safety related components frequently modeled in PSA. The underlying distribution for the failure rate was assumed to be lognormal or gamma, according to the PSA convention. The dependencies among the generic sources were not considered at this time. This problem will be approached in further study.

  • Annual reproductive cycle of Siganus canaliculatus was studied based on monthly variation of gonadosomatic index (GSI) and histological changes of gonads. Samples were monthly collected by a set net along the southern coast of Jeju Island, Korea from January to December, 1996. Variation of the monthly mean GSI values showed similar trends in female and male. The GSI values increased from June and reached a peak in the spawning season in July $(9.65{\pm}1.96\;in\;females,\;10.00{\pm}4.27\;in\;males)$, and decreased rapidly thereafter. Female hepatosomatic index (HSI) values ranged from $1.26{\pm}0.22\;(in\;April)\;to\;2.34{\pm}0.39$ (in July), and male HSI values ranged from $1.27{\pm}0.21\;(in\;April)\;to\;1.87{\pm}0.30$ (in October). Annual reproductive cycle was classified into the following successive stages: in female, growing stage (from February to June), mature stage (from June to July), ripe and spawning stage (from July to August), recovery stage (from August to March); and in male, growing stage (from January to June), mature stage (from June to July), ripe and spent stage (from July to August), and recovery stage (from August to April). Based on these data, this species has a group-synchronous oocyte development and one spawning season a year.

  • This study proposes a method to improve the sleep stage and efficiency estimation of sleep apnea patients using a UWB (Ultra-Wideband) radar. Motion and respiration extracted from the radar signal were used. Respiratory signal disturbances by motion artifacts and irregular respiration patterns of sleep apnea patients are compensated for in the preprocessing stage. Preprocessing calculates the standard deviation of the respiration signal for a shift window of 15 seconds to estimate thresholds for compensation and applies it to the breathing signal. The method for estimating the sleep stage is based on the difference in amplitude of two kinds of smoothed respirations signals. In smoothing, the window size is set to 10 seconds and 34 seconds, respectively. The estimated feature was processed by the k-nearest neighbor classifier and the feature filtering model to discriminate between the sleep periods of the rapid eye movement (REM) and non-rapid eye movement (NREM). The feature filtering model reflects the characteristics of the REM sleep that occur continuously and the characteristics that mainly occur in the latter part of this stage. The sleep efficiency is estimated by using the sleep onset time and motion events. Sleep onset time uses estimated features from the gradient changes of the breathing signal. A motion event was applied based on the estimated energy change in the UWB signal. Sleep efficiency and sleep stage accuracy were assessed with polysomnography. The average sleep efficiency and sleep stage accuracy were estimated respectively to be about 96.3% and 88.8% in 18 sleep apnea subjects.

  • The main purpose of (the) performing arts is to efficiently communicate the themes and meanings which performances contain under limited time and place to the audience. Stage design should visually express play writer's scripts and director's interpretations of works, amid limitations. Although it is mostly designed metaphorically, in many cases, it is used only as a tool describing the background of performances but fails to effectively convey the true message of scenes to spectators. On the other hand, Bob Crowley has been recognized for his own design presentation skills to win 'Best Scenic Design of a Musical' of Tony Awards for six times and still exerts great influence on the musical and performing arts fields as a set designer. This study analyzes his reading of scripts and visual metaphor expressions, focusing on the musical, 'Aida' where the skills are mostly notable. To that end, we studied the concept of stage arts and theory of visual metaphoric expression to derive the features of his own technique in visual metaphor. Then, the features were applied to each scene of 'Aida' to see how they are displayed on stage. The result shows that Bob Crowley not only describes the background on stage, but also visualizes characters' personality and emotions in scenes. Such method of his expression is a proof to enhanced performance level by maximizing the atmosphere. Considering that a stage design should be based on the capacity of a designer to reinterpret the space with renewed viewpoints, visual metaphoric expression can serve as an effective tool to deliver clear messages to the audience under limited time and space, which is open to various methods of expressions.
