  • The purpose for this paper is to find the common characteristics of Korean traditional clothing, which is largely affected by Chinese arts and culture. There are many different theories about Faking Opera's orgine but an established character is an ensemble song and dance. It virtually represent overall Chinese arts. There are four characters in the Peking Opera ; Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chuck. Sheng is divided into Nosheng, Sosheng, Musheng and Hongsheng based on their dramatic skills. Also, Sheng requires various acting skills : song, dance, dialogue, act and fighting skill. Peking Opera's stage costume was set up in Qing dynasty though it's style was embellished with mainly Ming dynasty's clothing style. The rankings and personalties of the role are strictly applied to decide what to wear. Artistic exaggeration, symbol and transfiguration, use of colors are equally important in planning the stage costume.

  • A group scheduling problem, which is production scheduling problem associated with the concept of group technology, is studied under due date constraints in multi-stage manufacturing systems. The purpose of this paper is to develop and evaluate a practical heuristic procedure for determining group sequence and job sequence within each group to minimize total tardiness in multi-stage manufacturing systems. A heuristic algorithm has been developed by introducing the concept of relative measures of job tardiness and group tardiness for job sequencing and group sequencing, respectively. A numerical example is shown to illustrate the proposed procedure. The heuristic algoirthm is tested by comparisons with problems with known optimal solutions and also with random group schedules for a set of large-size problems. Results indicate that the proposed heuristic algorithm provides good solutions with small computational requirements, and thus is viable for large size problems in practice.

  • Movable weirs with multi-stage control are necessary in many Korean rivers to actively control the water storage level. A mesh dependency test was performed to determine the appropriate number of meshes for structural analysis of movable weirs. The standing angles of movable weirs were set to 60°, 45°, 30°, and 15° for stress analysis. The standing angle of 0° was excluded from the analysis because it was unloaded. Changes in the standing angle led to changes in the water depth, maximum pressure, maximum strain, and maximum stress. The maximum average stress and the structural safety of the multi-stage control movable weir were computed and tested using the Ansys FEA software package.

  • This paper intends to progress models to accurately estimate the behavior of fresh concrete under vibration using artificial neural networks (ANNs). To this end, behavior of a full scale precast concrete mold was investigated numerically. Experimental study was carried out under vibration with the use of a computer-based data acquisition system. In this study measurements were taken at three points using two vibrators. Transducers were used to measure time-dependent lateral displacements at these points on mold while both mold is empty and full of fresh concrete. Modeling of empty and full mold was made using ANNs. Benefiting ANNs used in this study for modeling fresh concrete, mold design can be performed. For the modeling of ANNs: Experimental data were divided randomly into two parts such as training set and testing set. Training set was used for ANN's learning stage. And the remaining part was used for testing the ANNs. Finally, ANN modeling was compared with measured data. The comparisons show that the experimental data and ANN results are compatible.

  • This paper reports on a study to increase the flexibility of previous TMDS(Train Monitoring and Diagnosis System) network communication in case of both multiple units and variable train sets. The previous TMDS network configuration has been applied using various field-BUS by the TMDS manufacturers using their own intrinsic method. But recently, there has been a demand for flexible train formations such as multiple units and variable train set formations, hence the TMDS had to be adapted to offer flexible network communication technology capability. Therefore, Hyundai-Rotem needed its intrinsic method of network configuration, and develop a network configuration method applicable to both multiple units and variable train set formations. The TMDS was integrated into the Irish Rail new Diesel Multiple Units from an early stage of the project and subsequently fully tested on a finished train.

  • Maturity and spawning of the atka mackerel, Pleurogrammus azonus, was investigated based on the samples collected by gill net and set net in the East Sea from January 2006 to March 2009. Gonadosomatic index (GSI) began to increase in October, and reached a maximum between November and December. After spawning GSI began to decrease from January. The spawning period was from October to January, and main spawning period was from November to December. Annual reproductive cycles of this species could be divided into five successive stages in females; early growing stage (June), late growing stage (July to August), mature stage (September to October), ripe and spent stage (November to January), and recovery and resting stage (January to May). Males showed four successive stages: growing stage (June to August), mature stage (September to October), ripe and spent stage (October to December), and recovery and resting stage (January to May). P. azonus could be one of polycyclic species spawning two times or more during one spawning season. Number of total and mature eggs in the fecundity were proportional to fork length. The fork length at 50% group maturity was estimated to be 26.9 cm.

  • The analytical models and algorithm of the SPIKE code, which has been developed by KAERI's KALIMER team to investigate the sodium-water reaction phenomena in the liquid metal reactor, were introduced with its verification calculation results. The sodium water reaction of KALIMER IHTS was evaluated. Early stage of the sodium-water reaction consists of wave and mass transfer regimes. The pressure variations were independent of specific design features in the wave transfer regime. However in the mass transfer regime, the pressure variations were strongly dependent on cover gas volume and rupture disk set pressure. The early stage SWR analysis showed that the KALIMER IHTS with an appropriate cover gas volume and rupture disk set pressure had enough margin to its design pressure.

  • Identifying disease genes from human genome is a critical task in biomedical research. Important biological features to distinguish the disease genes from the non-disease genes have been mainly selected based on traditional feature selection approaches. However, the traditional feature selection approaches unnecessarily consider many unimportant biological features. As a result, although some of the existing classification techniques have been applied to disease gene identification, the prediction performance was not satisfactory. A small set of the most important biological features can enhance the accuracy of disease gene identification, as well as provide potentially useful knowledge for biologists or clinicians, who can further investigate the selected biological features as well as the potential disease genes. In this paper, we propose a new stepwise random forests (SRF) approach for biological feature selection and disease gene identification. The SRF approach consists of two stages. In the first stage, only important biological features are iteratively selected in a forward selection manner based on one-dimensional random forest regression, where the updated residual vector is considered as the current response vector. We can then determine a small set of important biological features. In the second stage, random forests classification with regard to the selected biological features is applied to identify disease genes. Our extensive experiments show that the proposed SRF approach outperforms the existing feature selection and classification techniques in terms of biological feature selection and disease gene identification.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for off line recognition of handwritten characters, especially effective for large-set characters such as Korean and Chinese characters. The algorithm is based on a minimum distance dlassification method which is simple and easy to implement but suffers from low recognition performance. Two strategies have been developed to improve its performance; one is multi-stage pre-classification and the other is candicate reordering. Effectiveness of the algorithm has been proven by and experimet with the samples of 574 classes in a handwritten Korean character catabase named PE02, where 86.0% of recognition accuracy and 15 characters per second of processing speed have been obtained.

  • This paper proposes an expert system which can enhance the accuracy of real-time bus reconfiguration strategy by adopting local minimum tree search method and minimize the spreading effect of the fault by considering totally the operating condition when a main transformer fault occurs in the automated substation. The local minimum tree search method to expand the best-first search method. This method has an advantage which can improve the performance of solution within the limits of the real-time condition. The inference strategy proposed expert system consists of two stages. The first stage determines the switching candidate set by searching possible switching candidates starting from the main transformer or busbar related to the event. And, second stage determines the rational real-time bus reconfiguration strategy based on heuristic rules for the obtained switching candidate set. Also, this paper studies the generalized distribution substation modelling using graph theory and a substation database is designed based on the study result. The inference engine of the expert system and the substation database is implemented in MFC function of Visual C++. Finally, the performance and effectiveness of the proposed expert system is verified by comparing the best-first search solution and local minimum tree search solution based on diversity event simulations for typical distribution substation.
