  • This paper not only aims to establish a plan to acquire the water stage data in a constant and proper manner by using limited manpower and costs, but also establishes the fundamental technology for acquiring the water level observation data or the stage data. For this, this paper focuses on how to acquire the stage data, in a uniform manner, that can represent each basin by developing the technology for establishing the optimal observational network. For that, this paper identifies the current status of the stage gauge stations installed in the ChungJu dam including wetland basin mainly along the national rivers. Then, thus obtained factors are used to develop the representative unit hydrograph. After that, the data are converted into the probability density function. Then, the stations are calculated information transfer amount. As a last step, we establish the optimized stage gauge network by the location of the stage station and space impact that takes into account for the combinations of the number of the stations. In other words, we consider the combination of the stage gauge station with information transfer amount and spatial correlation analysis for estimation.

  • The communication through optical fiber is taking an important role of the expansion of communication network with excellent transmitting rate and quality. As the optical communication is introduced to the backbone network at first and becomes a general communication method of network, the demand of kernel parts of optical communication such as PLC(Planar Light Circuit), Coupler, and WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) element increases. The alignment and the attachment technology are very important in the fabrication of optical elements. In this paper, the driving mechanism of ultra precision stage is studied with the aim of optimal design of stage. The travel and the resolution of stage are investigated. The hysteresis of the stage is generated because of PZT actuator. The hysteresis and the inverse hysteresis are modeled in X, Y, and Z-axis motion. The input data of desired displacement of the stage according to input voltage is obtained from the inverse hysteresis equation. In the result of experiments with the input data, the errors due to hysteresis are well compensated.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a reliable flow forecasting model based on neural network algorithm in order to provide flow rate at stream sections without flow measurement in Nakdong river. Stream flow rate measured at 8-days interval by Nakdong river environment research center, daily upper dam discharge and precipitation data connecting upstream stage gauge were used in this development. Back propagation neural network and multi-layer with hidden layer that exists between input and output layer are used in model learning and constructing, respectively. Model calibration and verification is conducted based on observed data from 3 station in Nakdong river.

  • In this paper, the WSANN(Water Stage Analysis with Neural Network) model was presented so as to predict flood water stage at Jindong which has been the major stream gauging station in Nakdong river basin. The WSANN model used the improved backpropagation training algorithm which was complemented by the momentum method, improvement of initial condition and adaptive-learning rate and the data which were used for this study were classified into training and testing data sets. An empirical equation was derived to determine optimal hidden layer node between the hidden layer node and threshold iteration number. And, the calibration of the WSANN model was performed by the four training data sets. As a result of calibration, the WSANN22 and WSANN32 model were selected for the optimal models which would be used for model verification. The model verification was carried out so as to evaluate model fitness with the two-untrained testing data sets. And, flood water stages were reasonably predicted through the results of statistical analysis. As results of this study, further research activities are needed for the construction of a real-time warning of the impending flood and for the control of flood water stage with neural network method in river basin. basin.
