The demand for new processing technology that can improve productivity is increasing in industries that require large-scale and various products. In response to this demand, a robot machining system with flexibility is required. Because of the low rigidity of the robot, the robot machining system has a large error during machining and is vulnerable to vibration generated during machining. Vibration generated during machining deteriorates machining quality and reduces the durability of the machine. To solve this problem, a stage for fixing the spindle during machining is required. In order to compensate for the robot's low rigidity, a system combining a piezoelectric actuator for generating a large force and a guide mechanism to actuate with a desired direction is required. Since the rigidity of flexible hinges varies depending on the structure, it is important to optimal design the flexible hinge and high-rigidity system. The purpose of this research is to make analytic model and optimize a flexible hinge and to design a high rigidity stage. In this research, to design a flexible hinge stage, a concept design of system for high rigidity and flexure hinge modeling is carried out. Based on analytic modeling, the optimal design for the purpose of high rigidity is finished and the optimal design results is used to check the error between the modeling and actual simulation results.
For improving performance of heat pump system, researcher has adapted 2-stage economizer cycle and developed a high-efficiency screw compressor, new working medium(non-azeotropic mixed refrigerant) and counterflow heat exchangers operating with a small temperature difference. Target of this study is development of high performance heat pump system with the 2-stage economizer system using the non-azeotropic mixed refrigerant. For the purpose of excuting target, we constucted computer simulation programs, compared and examed various types of cycle and non-azeotropic mixture. Based on the results from computer simulation we selected optimum mixtures and reflected design and production process of performance test equipment with the 1-stage econmizer system. In order to accomplish the final target, design and production of the 2-stage economizer system, we performed pilot test using the 1-stage economizer performance test system and finally design and production of the 2-stage economizer system.
In design verification and process validation stages, reliability demonstration tests(RDT's) are common practice in industry, A new two-stage RDT that is known to be more efficient than a corresponding single-stage one in terms of expected test duration for Weibull distribution is proposed. Zero or one failure two-stage plans to minimize expected test duration under Type I and hybrid censoring subject to satisfying consumer's risk at a specified reliability target are developed and a numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed two-stage RDT plans and compared with other one- and two-stage plans.
The purpose of this study is to illustrate the design of safety suits based on energy-harvesting technology, particularly targeting street cleaners who must work at night with high mobility. The design focuses on applying lightweight energy-harvesting tools and illuminant into the wear. The design development reflects feedback from testers collected via survey constituting a key methodology. The development process has two main stages. Each stage uses a process of design prototyping, internal examination, test sampling, test wearing, and wearers' feedback via survey that consists of questions on visibility, wearing convenience, and washability. The first stage results show the design of safety suits with energy-harvested LED illuminant inserted and the survey results collected from street cleaners dressed in 4 sample and 80 actual suits in total. Improved based on the first-stage survey results, the second stage designs the suits with detachable energy-harvested EL tape. From these 5 sample and 30 actual second-stage suits, the additional survey indicates that this second-stage design facilitates more visibility and convenience in washing and wearing than the first-stage design. Accordingly, one can expect that this new design can apply not only to safety suits for night workers but also to handicapped or outdoor sportswear applications in the future.

This study aimed to present a concrete and systematic lesson design model for practical problem-based learning in Practical Arts based on the backward design model. To this purpose, this study was conducted in the following four stages: analysis, design, development, and evaluation. In the analysis stage, the literature related to the practical-problem-based curriculum and the instructional design model were reviewed as the theoretical foundations, and the 2015 revision of Practical Arts curriculum was analyzed. In the design stage, based on the literature review, the stages and sub-elements of practical-problem-based learning in Practical Arts were determined, and a template of instructional design was constructed. In the development stage, the design model was drafted based on the stages and sub-elements determined at the design stage. In the evaluation stage, the drafted design model from the development stage was evaluated, modified, and enhanced through expert verification. Based on the suggestions from the experts, the 'practical problem setting' stage was added to the original three-stage model, resulting in a model composed of the following four stages: practical problem setting, goal setting, evaluation planning, and learning activity planning. The experts appraised that the developed model of practical-problem-based instructional design in Practical Arts to be a systematic template that would serve as a concrete guideline for teachers who are trying to design classes based on practical problems.
Although design, color, and material are important elements in stage costumes, stage lightning also plays significant role in the presentation of stage costumes. Costumes color, material and perception can be significantly influenced by visual effects. Stage illumination can be arranged or managed so that colors are closely related to or enhanced or change the effects of costume colors on the runway or display at specific times. The results of this thesis are as follow; 1) Fabric tone, name, brightness, and chroma of colors were changed by the colors of stage lighting. 2) An achromatic color was changed to a chromatic color after being combined with colors of stage lighting. 3) Stage illuminations can make fabric, colors look similar to stage colors. 4) Plain satin silk fabric which reflects light shows high brightness and chroma after being influenced by stage lighting its shining effects and color changes were clear and apparent. 5) Velvet pile fabric which absorbs light shows low brightness and chroma after being influenced by stage lightning its shining effects and changes of colors were not clear and apparent. In conclusion, natural lights did not significantly influence fabric colors and perception, while artificial lights had wide range of effects on fabric colors and perception.

The experimental results of the 2 stage Gifford-McMahon(GM) type pulse tube refrigerator (PTR) or cryopump are presented in this paper. The objectives of his study are to develop design technology of the integral type 2 stage PTR which rotary valve is directly connected to he hot end of the regenerator and acquire its improved performance. Design of the 2 stage PTR is conducted by FZKPTR(Forschungs Zentrum Karlsruhe Pulse Tube Refrigerator) program for the design of pulse tube refrigerators. The fabricated PTR has U-type configuration and incorporates orifice valve, double-inlet valve and reservoir as phase control mechanism. Rotary valve is used to make pulsating pressure and is directly connected to inlet of $1^{st}$ stage regenerator. From experiments, cooling performance map and pressure waveform at each point were measured for different operating frequencies. Experimental results show the best cooling performance with 2 Hz operation in spite of small pressure amplitude. The lowest temperatures of the 2 stage PTR were 16.9 K at the second stage and 58.0 K at the first stage. The cooling capacities achieved were 14.4 W at 79 K, the first stage and 3.6 W at 29 K, the second stage.

This paper proposes an efficient mechanism design system of multi-stage gear drives including not only parallel shaft gears but also non-parallel gears such as bevel and worm gear drives. The system automatically generates three dimensional structures of specification-adjusted mechanisms, and shows the sorted list of the mechanisms according to the evaluation result by using a fuzzy expert system. The list can be used as reliable candidates of the spatial mechanism structures of multi-stage gear drives. Thus, it is expected that the system can increase the efficiency of design and cut off the expenses of preliminary design considerably.

Piezoelectric elements driven ultra-precision stages have been used for high accuracy, fast response and high load rapacity. which are allowable to apply the stages to AFMs. Most of the piezoelectric driven stages are guided by flexure hinges for force transmission and mechanical amplification. However the flexure hinge mechanisms cause lack of position accuracy due to coupled and parasitic motions. Hence it is important that the mechanism design of the stage is focused on the stiffness of the flexure hinges to accomplish fast response and hish accuracy without the coupled and parasitic motions. In this study, some constraints for optimal design of a piezoelectric elements driven stage and a design method are proposed. Next, an optimal design is carried out using mathematical calculation. Finally the designed results are verified by FEM.

Tight integration of product design and process planning in the early design stage would make bigger impact as wider spectrum of design and manufacturing alternatives can be pursued and evaluated. Thus the development of systematic computer-based supporting for this integration if desirable. For this integration and process planning in the early design stage, the systematic method to synthesize shape of part from functional requirements is crucial. This research presents the methods of functional decomposition from overall function of product and synthesizing shape of part based on functional relations extracted from functional decomposition using planetary gear transmission system as an example.
