  • The higher the building height and the larger the temperature difference between the outdoor and indoor space, the more remarkable is the draft driven by the stack effect in high-rise buildings. Moreover, the stack effect can bring about the deterioration of habitability and the degradation of the performance of the indoor control system in high-rise buildings. In this study, as a measure to attenuate the stack effect, the E/V shaft cooling method was proposed and its performance was compared with the conventional stack effect control method for strengthening the air-tightness of the building using a numerical simulation method. The total decreasing ratios on the stack effect in a building were compared, and the probabilities of the secondary problems were analyzed. The results show that the E/V shaft cooling is very effective to decrease the stack effect in a high-rise building in terms of the reduction performance and application. Moreover, this method does not cause secondary problems, such as stack pressure transition to other walls, unlike the conventional stack effect mitigation method.

  • During PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) operation monitoring and diagnosis are important issues for reliability and durability. Stack defect can be followed by a critical cell voltage drop in the stack. One method for monitoring the cell voltage is CVM(Cell Voltage Monitoring), where all cells in the stack are electrically connected to a voltage measuring system and monitored these voltages. The other methods are based on the EIS(Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) and on nonlinear frequency response. In this paper, intermodulation(IM) method for diagnosis PEMFC stack is introduced. To detect one or more critical PEMFC cell voltage PEMFC stack is excited by two or more test sinusoid current, and the frequency response of the stack voltage is analyzed. If one or more critical cell voltage exists, higher harmonics on the voltage frequency spectrum will appear. For the proposed IM method, stack simulation and experiments are conducted.

  • It is the basic requirement of product characteristics to specify geometric dimensions and tolerances during design process of parts assembly. Therefore, there are many tolerance stack analysis method to explain tolerance zone. Tolerance stack analysis is to calculate gap using tolerances which includes geometric and coordinate dimension. In this study, we compared several different stack analysis method and try to suggest more general method called the Virtual Method to analyze tolerance stack.

  • This technology is applicable to Electrical vehicle that using Energy from Hydrogen Fueled Cell. Electricity & water is got from chemical reaction between H2 & O2 in stack. This technology is used when fault diagnosis of Fuel cell is needed. It is General method that measure each cell's voltage of stack for fault diagnosis. but, this technology is method of measuring entire voltage of stack. For this reason, fault diagnosis system is simplified and cost of system is lower than previous one. In normal stack condition, characteristic graph of voltage-current has linearity. In fault stack condition, it has non-linearity. we use this characteristic to diagnosis of stack fault. In this technology, Specific frequency current is injected into stack & Stack voltage is measured in response. After that, stack voltage difference is analyzed to diagnosis of stack fault. Presently, Development of current injection module & basic program of THDA is finished. in future we will develop the technology of precise measurement technology about entire stack voltage.

  • The stack-effect in high-rise buildings in winter causes many problems such as difficulties in opening or closing doors, infiltration, energy loss, noise and fire protection. Stack effect is influenced by temperature difference between the interior and exterior of building and the height of building. As an attenuation method for stack effect, the architectural methods are generally used. However, as though architectural methods were fully adopted, the problems are reported as ever in tall building. In this study, a new method to reduce stack effect will be suggested. As an active control method against the stack effect, E/V shaft natural cooling method is suggested. In this paper, the concept of E/V shaft natural cooling system and its reduction performance of stack effect by simulation and field measurement will be reported.

  • It is the basic requirement of design process of parts assembly to specify geometric dimensions and tolerances of product characteristics. Among them, tolerance stack analysis is one of the important methods to specify tolerance zone. Tolerance stack analysis is to calculate gap using tolerances which includes geometric and coordinate dimensions. In this study, we suggested more general method called the virtual method to analyze tolerance stack. In virtual method, tolerance zone is formed by combination of dimensional tolerance, geometric tolerance and bonus tolerance. Also tolerance zone is classified by virtual boundary condition and resultant boundary condition. So gap can be defined by combination of virtual boundary and/or resultant boundary. Several examples are used to show the effectiveness of new method comparing to other methods.

  • HT-PEMFC (high temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell) using PA (phosphoric acid) doped PBI (polybenzimidazole) membrane has been researched for extending the lifetime. However, the existing work on durability of HT-PEMFC focuses on identifying degradation causes of lab scale. The short life time of HT-PEMFC is still the problem for its commercialization. In this paper, an operating method to maximize life time of 5kW HT-PEMFC stack are proposed. The proposed method includes major steps such as minimization of OCV (Open Circuit Voltage) exposure, control of the proper stack temperature, and N2 purging for the stack. This long life operating method was based on the fragmentary results of degradation from previous research works. Experimentally, the 5 kW homemade HT-PEMFC stack was operated for a long time based on the proposed method and the stack successfully can operate within the desired degradation rate for the target life time.

  • Recently, the velocity stack domain is having an attention as a very useful domain for various processing in seismic data processing. In order to be used in many applications, the velocity stack should be obtained through an inversion method and the used inversion should have properties like the robustness to noise and the parsimony of velocity stack result. Iteratively Reweighted Least-Squares (IRLS) method is the one of the inversion methods that have such properties. This paper describes the theoretical background, implementation of the method, and examines the characteristics and limits of the IRLS method.

  • As the height of the building increases, the stack effect in stairwell that is main facilities for evacuation becomes stronger. While the pressure rise in stairwell causes difficulties on opening the door for evacuation and has effect on smoke control system, reduction of stack effect will be necessary for providing more safe evacuation environment. The field experiments on pressure field in high-rise building are carried out to present reduction method of stack effect and the numerical analyses using network model are proceeded to design quantitatively the reduction method. As the air flow supplied from outside in lower stair and exhausted to outside in upper stair is formed in stairwell, the stack effect in stairwell is expected to be decreased.

  • Recently, the demand of demolition for the unnecessary industrial structure is increasing due to deterioration tendency and the issue of demolition is becoming a major highlight. The restoration of the dismantled industrial site to its original natural state was currently underway. This execution case was intented to describe an application of the felling method one of the explosive demolition method to the demolition of the industrial stack. This stack was 150m high, a composite structure in which the outer wall of the stack was a reinforced concrete shell structure and internal stovepipe was a steel shell structure. As as result of the explosive demolition, the stack had collapsed precisely according to estimated direction. And the explosive demolition was completed without causing any damage to surrounding facilities.
