An Experimental study was carried out to develop a simple method of processing copper waste sludge which is produced by PBC manufacturing. The procedure is based on leaching of wet sludge in 2N H$_2$SO$_4$, and the solid / liquid ratio is controlled approximately at 1/10. The recovery of copper is 85.4%, and pH of the leachate is 3.20. Adding ammonia solution into leachate forms ammine, and hydroxide compounds derived from other impurities in leachate at pH 10. The hydroxide compound can be treated by ferrite process, and the product is a stable oxide compound. Then the ammine solution is heated to evaporate ammonia, and the copper hydroxide is formed. Heating at 8$0^{\circ}C$by aeration, copper hydroxide is transformed into copper oxide with a purity of 98.4%. This process can recover most copper from sludge and the residue can be stabilized by the formation of a stable oxide compound which is not hazardous to environment.
This paper proposes a new direct numerical integration algorithm for solving equation of motion in structural dynamics problems with nonlinear stiffness. The new implicit method's degree of accuracy is higher than that of existing methods due to the higher order of the acceleration. Two parameters are defined, leading to a new family of unconditionally stable methods, which helps to take greater time steps in integration and eliminate concerns about the duration of solving. The method developed can be utilized for a number of solid plane finite elements, examples of which are given to compare the proposed method with existing ones. The results indicate the superiority of the proposed method.

The containment local leakage rate testing in nuclear power plants is performed in accordance with ANSI/ANS 56.8-1994 in Korea. Two methods, the make-up flow rate and the pressure decay, are used for local leakage rate testing. Though ANSI/ANS 56.8-1994 does not define clearly the minimum test duration for the make-up flow rate method, it requires obtaining the data after reaching the stable condition. Thus the prerequisite stable condition for data acquisition and the testing time is differently applied to each NPPs. Therefore, this study presents a standardized test procedure for data stabilization and testing time through experiments to improve the test reliability.

Cable and membrane structures can be classified as a unstable structure in the view point of shape determination process. An unstable stucture at the initial state generally cannot take a role as the resistance for the external force. Therefore, there should be a stabilizing process to get the stable state of a structure and it is necessary to visualize the shape finding from unstable state to stable state. In this paper, a numerical method of stabilizing procedure for the link structures is presented. The structures are assumed to have rigid movements and thus only changing of the topology of member is considered during the analysis. The generalized inverse matrix and the principle of minimum potential energy are used in the process. Illustrative examples are presented and the results show good convergence.
In this paper. a stable IIR adaptive filter for active noise control is proposed. The IIR filter structure is more effective when acoustic feedback exists, in which case an order of a FIR filter must be very large if some of the poles of the ideal control filter are near the unit circle. But the IIR filter may have stability problems especially when the adaptive algorithm is not converged. A stabilizing procedure for IIR adaptive filter is presented in this paper, and computer simulation is performed to show the effectiveness of proposed schemes.

This two-part paper presents a control method that allows for stable interaction of a robot manipulator with environment. In part 1, we focus on the input output relationships (unstructured modeling) of the robot and environment dynamics. This analysis leads to a general condition for stability of the robot and environment taken as a whole. This stability condition, for stable maneuver, prescribes a finite sensitivity for robot and environment where sensitivity of the robot (or the environment) is defined as a mapping forces into displacement. According to this stability condition, smaller sensitivity either in robot or in environment leads to narrower stability range. In the limit, when both systems have zero sensitivity, stability cannot be guaranteed. These models do not have any particular structure, yet they can model a wide variety of industrial and research robot manipulators and environment dynamic behavior. Although this approach of modeling may not lead to and design procedure, it will allow us to understand the fundamental issues in stability when a robot interacts with an environment.
A new impedance controller is proposed for bilateral teleoperation under a time delay. The proposed controller does not need to measure or estimate the time delay in the communication channel using the force loop-back. In designing a stable impedance controller, absolute stability is used as a stability analysis tool, which results in a less conservative controller than the passivity concept. Moreover, in order to remove the conservatism associated with the assumption of infinite port impedances, the boundaries of human and environment impedance are set to finite values. Based on this, this paper proposes a parameter design procedure for stable impedance controllers. The validity of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated by experiments with a 1-dof master/slave system.
A 4-year-old, 6.1 kg intact female dachshund was referred to the Animal Medical Center with acute right hind limb lameness. Radiographs revealed fractures of iliac body and tibia in the right limb. In addition, the dog exhibited tricuspid valve regurgitation and moderate heartworm infection in the right ventricle and main pulmonary artery on echocardiogram. To obtain stable anesthetic conditions for operation, an adult heartworm removal procedure was previously followed by repair of the complex fractures. All surgical procedures were done without complication and with stable patient conditions. At a one month postoperative follow-up, the dog was doing well with normal ambulation and no tricuspid valve regurgitation as well.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive regression method based on the single-layer neural network structure. We adopt a symmetric activation function as units of the structure. The activation function has a flexibility of its form with a parametrization and has a localizing property that is useful to improve the quality of estimation. In order to provide a spatially adaptive estimator, we regularize coefficients of the activation functions via ℓ1-penalization, through which the activation functions to be regarded as unnecessary are removed. In implementation, an efficient coordinate descent algorithm is applied for the proposed estimator. To obtain the stable results of estimation, we present an initialization scheme suited for our structure. Model selection procedure based on the Akaike information criterion is described. The simulation results show that the proposed estimator performs favorably in relation to existing methods and recovers the local structure of the underlying function based on the sample.

The procedure of wave energy dissipation due to breaking has been investigated with trains of the regular wave. To obtain the data for wave breaking and its deformation, experiments have been conducted by utilizing a horizontal step adjoining to a combined slope of 1/20 and 1/10. After breaking the wave height decreases by dissipation but attains a stable value at some distance from the breaking point Experimental results show that the stable wave is considerably affected by the wave period. The study gives the general form of stable wave height A new one-dimensional wave deformation model is proposed. being coupled with an approximated shoaling coefficient before wave breaking and the new energy dissipation term after breaking. It was compared with the experimental data. It predicts well the wave height deformation before and after wave breaking even on the abrupt change of the depth.
